Chapter 40 - Chapter 27: Convergence Part 1

Kyle's POV

The possible fate the of entire world depended on Dondre and Romaine; meaning we were doomed right from the beginning. I had a contingency plan in place in case they failed. I'd possibly be risking the life of my little brother, Eli, but in cases like this you have to think of the bigger picture; it would just be one life for the lives of millions.

The sun was making it's appearance from the horizon. Obsidian was telekinetically transporting the two of us to the rendezvous point on rocks. Looks like we arrived fairly on time, seeing as we arrived there before the speedster (who was also busy fighting someone).

As expected, TK was already there; this was his assigned location after all. He'd already made good work of the entire hospital. If I didn't know any better, I'd say some kind of natural disaster hit this place; it's been completely turned to rubble, unrecognizable even. I can't even imagine the amount of people who got caught up in this...

Almost immediately after Obsidian set us onto the ground in front of TK, Crimson came running in.

"You're late, speedster." Obsidian pointed out

"I had someone to lose first; it was that Acceleration kid." He defended

"The Speedster Trio, of course they'd get involved in this."

"But how would they have known about our exact schedule?"

"Not sure, but what of Kronos?"

"Probably got taken out by one of the trio." I answered

"Or just late." said TK

"It's not like he has any mobility increasing moves, so this would be expected." added Crimson

"And the boss?" I questioned

"The boss'll arrive whenever he pleases." said TK

"Well it looks like he 'pleases' to be late; it's already daybreak." I rebutted

"You wanna say that again?" A voice came from behind me

It was a rather slim guy, who I can only assume was the boss, but didn't quite fit... the expectations... though he did fit the rough figure that was present at the meetings.

I stepped back and faced him.

"I said it looks like you enjoy being late. Isn't this supposed to be our biggest operation or something?"

"Hey!" TK shoved, "Quit bad mouthin' the boss!"

I brushed off my coat.

"I'm just saying that he's late is all." I mumbled

"Well, boss?" Crimson questioned, "Are we ready?"

The man stayed silent, not uttering a word; sweating even.

"Actually," another voice spoke from behind us, "I think it's time you meet your real master."

We swiftly turned to see who it was. We all beheld the menace himself. Someone I've only heard of until now, but could easily deduce based on prior information.

"And just who the hell are you?" Questioned Crimson

"Black Zero." I stated, feeling an odd personal resentment toward him.

"Ahh," Zero went, "A fan I see."

I sharpened my glare at him.

"Boss? What is this?" Crimson questioned

Zero was now behind the man we thought was our leader.

"Oh Tom?" Zero said, "He's nothing but a pawn. And likewise for the rest of you."

I'd ensure to keep my hands in my coat pockets the whole time, especially my left hand; the reason for that was my contingency plan.

Now knowing Black Zero was actually the one behind all this pulling the strings, I knew that whatever we've been gathered for couldn't be anything remotely close to good. And why would he be using us anyway? If he can just achieve most of his own goals himself.

If I waited, there would've probably been a better opportunity, but I can't take chances like those at a time like this; so I had to act as Zero was staring at me.

I lowered my body's tension, in order to not raise any suspicion. Usually when someone is about to make a move, their body tension subconsciously skyrockets, which would cause Zero to raise his guard. I took the chance, and made my move. I pulled my glove-less left hand out of my pocket as quickly as possible. In the blink of an eye, Zero was now right in front of me; squeezing the energy out of my hand, and somehow suppressing my powers. It was long before I realized that he had actually broken it.

"Naive. Just what I'd expect from one of Romaine's friends." he said

He threw me over onto the ground. I cried out in pain from my fractured hand hitting the ground.

"Let us begin: Project Sunrise!"

"But Kronos isn't here yet." TK pointed out

"Nevertheless, we have all that is necessary to accomplish ROWTS. Now let's begin."

The five of us were organized into a circular arc, with Tom facing the rest of us. There was a large space between us and the center. Tom directed his palms toward TK and I, the members at either end of the arc. I got a weird feeling; I somehow felt connected to the others, in a way. I can't really describe it. TK used his ability directed toward the center, causing the usual blackhole-like effect.

Obsidian was instructed to focus his ability on the center, which doesn't make much sense because his ability is geokinesis. He followed as told, stretching his palm toward the center. Doing that caused the force that TK was generating to turn dark purple. We were all surprised at what happened, except for Zero that is.

Crimson was told to focus energy to the center, which made absolutely no sense; because as a speedster you have to engage in some kind of movement in order to generate any kind of energy. Crimson simply stretched forward his hand and vibrated on the spot. The now dark purple force had accumulated dark crimson electricity, and had suddenly began rotating even faster.

With that occurrence, dark clouds had formed in the sky and went as far as the eye could see. Lightning and thunder were making the whole experience even more ominous. Now it was my turn. And that's when everyone's favorite speedster decided to show up.

"Kyle!" he shouted

I took a misfortuned glance at him.

I could've simply not done anything, seeing as I had already mentally prepared myself to lose my own life and probably my brother's in the process, but I looked Zero in the eyes. There was definitely an intent to kill Romaine, and I could tell he was growing impatient. But If Zero was after simple revenge, he could've gotten it a long time ago. If he's going through the trouble of causing some sort of apocalypse, then he must have something more complex planned, and we'd need Romaine alive to help bring him down.

I sighed and said what I thought would be my last prayer. I struggled to remove the glove, but once I did, I raised my right hand toward the center. It was as if the force itself had become a blackhole; as the light illuminated from my palm it was quickly sucked into it. As the force continued to angulate, it wrapped itself in the light, transitioning into a very bright white color.

I retracted my hand, taking close view of what Black Zero would do next. A strong sense of nervousness quickly seeped in when whatever we'd made suddenly began to spin faster. It wasn't showing any signs of stopping, and actually seemed to be getting bigger. After we all exchanged looks, we instinctively begun to back away. The force was now acting erratically; and behaving as if it was going to explode. The pent up energy inside had now become too great to be contained. It was released in a blinding flash of light followed by the sound of atoms being violently ripped apart - or an explosion, in simple terms.

The five of us that created it were already scrambling, but on my way running from it, the pain of my broken arm had stunned me, causing me to trip over. I could only glare back at the anomaly in what were to be my final moments.

"Kyle! No!" I heard Romaine's voice screech

He had managed to pick me up in time and turn around, but got caught up in something entirely different.

The massive explosion had released a visible energy wave going in all directions; along with a shockwave that had pushed some of us even farther. In the central point of the anomaly, a rift tore open, seeming to be tearing through reality. The sudden drawback force of the rift opening had pulled in Romaine and I.

In his last moments before being swallowed by said rift, Romaine had thrown me out of his arms onto the ground. Now in excruciating pain, I helplessly laid on the ground. My eyesight was now blurred, but I could still recognize something else. Another rift had opened, a more stable one it seemed. An individual stepped out; the figure of a male. The new rift had then closed behind him; with the original one having already shut prior. Things were too blurry at that point to make out everything. Then things went black.
