Chapter 44 - Chapter 31: Convergence Part 5

Kyle's POV

"You might wanna watch out for Cas." Dondre advised the girl as we waited for the elevator to go down, "She's.. a bit of a hothead."

"That so?" the girl questioned

"Yup. But I can talk to her for you; she has a bit of a crush on me."

"So not true." I coughed

The elevator doors parted, revealing Cassandra's displeased face, and the Prince's curious one.

"And you didn't even think to consult me about bringing yet another stranger in here why?" Cas questioned

"Hey hey," Dondre started, walking closer to her, "Lay off it will ya? She helped us stop that badguy; I mean, we were doing nothing other than get our butts whooped."

"Uhuh, 'She'? So I take it you don't even know her name?"

"Who needs a name with such a pretty face?" Dondre then turned to the girl and whispered, "What, is your name, anyway?"

"Alisa Wright. And all of you are?"

"Dondre K. Robinson."

"Kyle Forlurne." Though I didn't see much of a point in disclosing last names, I did anyway since the other two had.

"Cassandra Bolt."

"And I, am Prince Romaine Green."

"Dude," Dondre went, clearly unamused, "You have got to stop doing that intro."

The Prince looked away dismissively, and went to change the subject.

"Where are you from, Miz Alisa?" he questioned

"Oh no." She went, "I'm done with the pleasantries. I came here for one reason and one alone; taking down Ballista."

"And this 'Ballista' guy is the person that was wrecking the city?" Cas questioned

"Yep"

"Well can you tell us more about him? Maybe it'll help us find him somehow."

Alisa looked over to the computer setup.

"Those computers, those are satellite images; do you think you can bring up a recording of earlier?"

"Sure thing."

Cas promptly went over to the computers and brought up the footage from earlier.

"How ever is he accomplishing such feats?" The Prince questioned, looking astonished

"Ballistic Telekinesis." stated Alisa

"Ballistic Telekinesis?" questioned Dondre

"It's a form of telekinesis that focuses on the violent movement and destruction of objects. He could cause things to explode at will if he wanted to. No one should have that kind of power."

"Which explains why he's so hellbent on destruction." The Prince commented

The playback had gotten to the point where Ballista had escaped.

"Yes, right there- Stop." Alisa commanded

Cas paused the video, now we were looking at an image of Ballista half-cloaked in darkness

Alisa got closer to the screen and looked closer.

"It is him. Damnit." she mumbled

"Mind filling us in on what you're talking about, love?" The Prince questioned

"That darkness." She said, pointing at the screen, "That's not Ballista's doing."

"So there's someone else?" I inquired

"Mhm." She mumbled, "His name's Dark Cross."

"Dark Cross," Dondre commented, " I like it."

"We haven't yet been able to identify all of his capabilities, or even get to name them, but teleportation via cloaking the target in darkness is definitely one of them."

"So if he's here as well," I started, "Where'd he come from, and where's he hiding?"

"My partner Rachel was supposed to handle him, but I guess he got away from her."

"Looks like your not the only let down of a partner, Dondre." Cas commented

"Oh come on! Will you guys let it go?" He stressed

Cassandra quietly chuckled, as we turned our attention back to Alisa.

"Rachel and I were in different parts of the city, a portal opened up and Ballista went into it. I'd reopened it and followed him here."

"In that case, there must be a portal that opened somewhere else." The Prince stated

"He's right." Cas agreed, as if she had an idea

She went back to the computers and begun frantically typing, as images of charts and all sorts of numbers flashed across the screen.

"What are you doing?" Dondre questioned

"Well," she started, "Since it's an interdimensional portal, it must give off some kind of energy signal. I analyzed the two known areas in which portals were opened, being the hospital, where Romaine was sucked in, and the Square, where Ballista and Alisa came from. I found similarities between the two."

"Which was?.."

"See for yourselves." she offered, bringing up a satellite view of the two locations, with what looked like a heat sensor on

"I take it that the heat going off the charts is bad?" I questioned

"That's not heat," she pointed out, "That's radiation."

"Oh. Well that makes more sense. Since the energy we'd created was powerful enough to rip through time and space, it's not hard to believe that it would release itself in a form of radiation."

"But what does the portals releasing radiation have to do with anything." The Prince questioned

"Now that we know the portals release radiation upon opening, she can just scan the city for similar spikes in said radiation." Dondre clarified

"Precisely." Cas agreed

"Bunch of smartasses the lot of them are." mumbled the Prince

"Tell me about it." Alisa agreed with him.

"And I found just that occurrence; nearly ten minutes ago, over at the pier." Cas informed

She brought up a video of said time and place. Just as expected, a portal opened, and an individual who I assume is the one named "Dark Cross" fell out of it. But then something unexpected happened; once Dark Cross had fallen to the ground, it was as if the concrete had become 'corrupted' by darkness. The darkness had rapidly spread along the the ground, consuming everything it came across.

"Hold on," I went, "What's happening?"

"Corruption." Alisa stated

"I can see that, but how is it happening?"

"That's Dark Cross' most well-known trait, he corrupts everything and everyone around him."

The video went on to show the darkness making contact with innocent tourists at the pier. On contact, they instantly fell down, presumably dead. Not long after, the whole pier was engulfed in Cross' corruption.

"That thing needs to be stopped." The Prince pointed out

"Well how'd we even get close?" Dondre posed

"All I know is, it's deadlier the closer you are to him. If you're a good enough distance, it won't affect you." Alisa added

"In any event," I started, "we'd need to track him down if we want to even think about taking him out."

"There's no way to track him; he can use his abilities from a remote location."

"We're screwed." Dondre mumbled
