Chapter 58 - Captured 2

Five minutes in and John frowned. Something was not right. At first, he thought Grim's team might have been spooked and was to escape but the more they followed them, the more he realized the direction they were heading to was getting closer and closer to the Black Site.

"Philip, are you sure our presence in Kyle's house wasn't tracked back to us?" John asked again just to be reassured.

Philip looked at the map again. He initially had a strong gut feeling that Grim's team was headed for his location, but had secretly dismissed the idea. Now being asked by his boss awakened the same gut feeling, only this time it was stronger as the distance between his location and Grim's team became shorter and their direction becoming more accurate by the second.

"Hypothetically speaking, what will happen if they're indeed heading for the Black Site." Philip loosened a few buttons of his shirt.

"The Black Site was designed as a defensive building. Nothing short of armored infantry, high explosives or a cruise missile can get past its defenses." John replied, but inwardly hoped he was right.

While what he said wasn't a lie, that was in the context of human capabilities. Hadn't he seen a Supernatural vanish from plain sight with his very own eyes, then he would have been more confident. The idea that a Supernatural could bypass his defenses had long since crossed his mind, and that was what made him even more unnerved.

"Change of plan. Price, take half of the team and meet Them at the Black Site, we'll come from the rear. Use live ammo to get their undivided attention."

"Copy." Price replied over the comms before ordering half the team to break away and speed up towards the Black Site.

John then switched back to Philip, "you remember the drill in case we have a breach?"

"Yes, sir. I remember." Philip replied.

"Good. Alert Dr. Nikolai. He should still be in his lab."

Immediately after Philip got the order, he started working on the monitors. A second later the whole Black Site was at Red Alert, startling Nikolai who was busy dismembering Kyle's dead Assassin. He had been preserving all the species that were brought to him, filling his lab with gruesome body parts.

At first, John had objected—he wanted to cremate all dead bodies after their autopsy—but something…magical kept on happening to all the dead bodies. If left alone for at least a couple of days, they turned to beasts. From then on, John became a firm believer in his methods.

It was during this time that the lights in his lab dimmed, and the Red Alert started. Almost immediately, Nikolai started grabbing his precious specimens and whisking them out of the lab. One by one, he took them to the elevator, down to the basement and into his designated armored truck.

He wasn't alone in rushing to the basement. Philip had long since started to shred all files and put them in a tin can, before setting the shredded pieces on fire, all while wiping the computer drives. He took some of the precious electronics and external drives to the basement and packed them into another armored truck.

It was a busy five minutes before the sound of vehicles skidding on the asphalt near the building got Philip's attention. At the same time, he monitored the enemy's approached through the large grid monitors on the wall. Looking out of the window, he spotted Price's team, and instead of relief, he felt even more dread.

The moment the two enemy S.U.V.s were a block away; Philip swept the Command Centre again to ensure everything was either destroyed or removed. He then contacted John again.

"I've wiped everything as instructed," Philip spoke.

"Good, leave the Black Site and maintain radio silence until I come for you. As much as I like having you as my eyes and ears in there, we're dealing with opponents I have no enough knowledge to guarantee your safety." John said. It was solemn but true.

"Understood." Philip then promptly left the building and into his own car before driving away. He didn't bother to check on Nikolai. Their contingency had all of them move to different locations. The less contact they had with each other during their evacuation, the better. It would make hunting them down through torturing of any captured members in the process of evacuation futile.

After putting some distance between him and the Black Site, he got a text that gave him the location he was to go. At the same time, all other members of the task force received their new coordinates and began their evacuation. After memorizing his new destination, he destroyed his phone and sped away.

Meanwhile, back at the Black Site, Price and his team were setting up their ambush. Two more people had separated from their group to go drive the armored trucks to safety. With about ten more guys with him. Price was confident enough to hold their opponents until John arrived for their pincer attack.

Not long after two black S.U.V.s pulled up. Six people came out, one of them was holding a tablet, and they talked for a few seconds before the guy holding the tablet pointed at the Black Site.

"Steady," Price said over the comms right before he heard static noises and a high pitch that forced him to remove the little device from his ears. He wasn't alone as all his guys did the same.

Although their comms were down, that didn't stop him from signaling his team to get ready to open fire.

The team of six crept closer to the Black Site before one of them stopped the others and began sniffing the air.

"Open fire!" Price ordered and several muzzles began flashing, but what happened next made Price a little jealous.

Instead of running to cover, a large purple shield appeared and covered all the six guys. Once the firing team started reloading, all six individuals split up and rushed towards the Black Site as if the earlier attack didn't mean much to them.

"We're approaching the target area, should be at the end of this block," Saul said as he operated his tablet.

"They may not be expecting us, but they should be prepared. Kill everyone, grab their leader and the Silent One if alive and leave the rest to the cleaning crew." Grim (the Manticore) ordered as they slowed down to a stop.

Getting out of the cars, they each began examining their surroundings before Saul pointed at a big five-storey building.

While approaching the building, Dan (the Lykan) who had the sharpest sense of smell among the group picked up almost a dozen humans that had recently headed towards the very same building they were approaching. He immediately alerted the rest of the team, and the moment they stopped someone opened fire. Drew (the Daemon) erected a magic shield, stopping all bullets.

"I thought you said they weren't aware of our hack," Grim said amid the gunfire.

"They shouldn't," Saul said and after a little hesitation, looked up. "Unless they used other means of surveillance."

"Deal with it. For the rest of us, our mission remains the same. Split up on my command." Grim said and waited for the first salvo to end before signaling everyone to split up.

It was the best strategy he could implement, considering the circumstance. They weren't equipped like a standard M.A.R.S. assault team as they could risk their enemies getting hold of their weapons. Something that had happened a few times in the past with the last incident forcing them to initiate a City Wipe just to cover up their failure.

There was also the fact that their job as Trackers mostly involved dealing with nosy Humans. Walking around with advanced technology could risk it ending up in the human hands. The only tech they were allowed was for infiltrating cyber systems and blocking communications. This way, even if it ended up in the wrong hands, they could remotely initiate a self-destruct command.

So, faced with a hail of bullets, their best option was to split up and move in for close-quarters combat. With their superior abilities dealing with a few humans wasn't going to be a problem.

Taking a defensive spot away from his enemy's fire line, Grim got a good look at the Black Site and noticed only one visible entrance. But it was a blast door.

There were a few windows but were all reinforced with metal grills; probably titanium alloys. Having dealt with similar situations before, Grim knew even a direct hit from an RPG wouldn't stand a chance. The walls were all reinforced—the building was built for a siege.

Grim slightly frowned, the more he learned about his target, the more he felt that something was wrong. "Drew, take Saul into the building and deactivate all security measures. Dan, Sam (the Satyr) and Grey (the Griffin) provide cover and continue engaging the enemy from the front."

While the Humans saved them a lot of trouble by using silencers, he had no intention of prolonging the fight. So many things could go wrong in a situation like this.

Dan smiled at the order and began cracking his knuckles. His eyes glowed, and he began to shift into his Lykan form.
