Darren was transfixed by the motion of the little engine.
The large round wheel-thing in front (Darren wasn't sure what to call it) was spinning quickly as it made a put-put-put-put-put staccato sound as they sped along the ocean's surface.
And speed they did! Not in Darren's lifetime had he seen something move so fast. The town faded out of sight in no time and they were now following the rocky coast to circle to the other side of the island.
Darren shifted his attention to the person driving the boat at the rear. Hida looked like a natural behind the rudder. She deftly handled their little vessel with ease, driving through the waves and being sure to avoid the myriad of hazards that presented themselves this close to shore.
Darren supposed growing up where she did that Hida had picked up some skills out on the water. Well, maybe more than a few skills.
