I wake up early on Monday to get ready for school. I have a shower and leave my wavy hair down to dry. I throw on a pair of ripped, red jeans, black combat boots, black tank top, and my leather jacket. I make my way down to the kitchen to grab an apple and then head outside. I am greeted by Jason and Nix waiting for me to walk to school together. I can't wait until I am back at the dorm, so I don't have to wake up so early to leave. We eventually make it to the school, low and behold, out front waiting is Talia, Lina, Mikhail, Jared, and Killian. I give a little squeal and run over to them and give bot Talia and Lina a big hug.
"I am so glad you guys are all here!"
"We are happy to see you again, but can you let go so we can breathe please?" Talia asks, her voice strained, and I let go.
"What are we? Chopped liver?" Mikhail asks.
"Of course, not Mikhail," I say as I walk over to him and give him a hug.
"That's enough for you," Jared says sternly grabbing me from Mikhail and into his embrace.
"Missed you too Jared," I laugh, "can you let go?"
"Do I have to?" he pouts.
"Yes, you do."
He sighs and let's go of me.
"Saving the best for last?" Killian grins mischievously.
"Always," I chuckle as he gives me a tight hug.
I hear a low threatening growl come from behind me and I know automatically who it is. Nix. I let go of our embrace as Killian does and I ask for what classes they have.
"I think Lina and I have god history first, then math, lunch, and finally power practice with Kennedy," Talia states.
"I have power practice with Jack, lunch, English, and then supernatural history," Mikhail says.
"I have the same as Mikhail except I have math instead of English," Jared adds.
"I have math, supernatural animal training, lunch and then power practice with Jack, how about you Kate?" Killian wonders.
"I have God history, supernatural animal training, lunch, and power practice with Jack. Which means we all have lunch together -"
"Woohoo! Lunch is the best!" Jared shouts making us all laugh.
"I also have god history with Talia and Lina, and animal training and power practice with Killian. This is awesome I have one of you in every class!" I exclaim.
"Yay!" Talia yells.
I laugh, "wait, why do you have animal training Killian?"
"Oh right, I never told you. I have bonded with a chimera not too long ago and I am glad I get to learn more about them."
"Me too, Zane is the best and I am excited to learn more about him."
'Me too, I don't even know the extent of myself, I can't wait!' Zane shouts in my head excitedly.
'Geez Zane, you are literally in my head, no need to scream,' I roll my eyes.
"Alright, let's head to class," we begin to walk inside.
'Are you forgetting something?'
'Am I?'
'How about the two boys who walked you here?'
'Oh right, I laugh, thanks Zane, and not a word to this Nix, got it?'
'Uh, yeah, sure.'
'You already talked to him, didn't you?'
'Maybe.'
I roll my eyes and stop walking. I turn around and everyone else does as well.
"Well? Are you coming or not?" I ask Jason and Nix.
"I thought you forgot about us," Jason laughs.
"So what if I did, I haven't seen these guy forever!"
"It was only Saturday; it has literally been two days," Nix sounds annoyed.
"Oh, suck it up and let's go. We don't want to be late on the first day."
I see them both roll their eyes and catch up to us, as we walk, I introduce all of them.
"So, Jason and Nix, this is Talia, Lina, Jared, Mikhail, and Killian. Guys these are my friends, Jason and Nix."
They all say hello and nice to meet you. I am surprised Nix hasn't started yelling yet, he looks angry. We keep walking and Killian slips his arm around my waist. I look over to him and he gives me a grin and a wink. I just smile shaking my head and continue to class.
We separate to go our separate ways to class. Talia, Lina, and I walk to God History. We walk in and sit down; the desks are in pairs, so Talia and I sit together, and Lina sits behind us. Not long after we sit down the rest of the class comes in and then the teacher.
"Okay class, we have two new students here. Can you come up and introduce yourselves?"
Talia and Lina stand up to make their way over to the front of the class.
"Hey, I am Talia and I am a Ravenier demon."
"And I am Lina, I am also a Ravenier demon."
The whole class goes silent, even the teacher. They all looked shocked, I bet they heard about demons attending the school, but no one believed it. The girl who was sitting next to Lina stands up and walks to another seat. Gosh, people are so set in their beliefs.
"Thank you, you may go sit down."
Lina and Talia nod and make their way to their seats once again.
"I can't believe she moved away from me," Lina chuckles, "that is gold."
The class begins and it is over before we know it, I make my way to the field in my normal clothes and I meet Killian out there.
"Hey Kate!"
"Hi Killian, how was your first class?"
"It was alright, boring without you there," he flirts.
"Make sure Nix doesn't hear you talking like that."
"Why, will he get jealous?" he smiles.
"Yes, he claims that I am his mate, so he may attack you."
"That pup doesn't scare me, I can take care of myself."
"Yeah, yeah. I know, you are an almighty demon," I laugh, and he does too.
I put my bag down and let Zane's chameleon crawl out and then he shifts into his retriever. Killian looks shocked, but then hides the expression.
"This is Zane, Zane this is Killian."
Zane lets out a growl.
"Hey! What did we talk about?" I tell Zane.
'To be nice and give him a chance.'
'Exactly.'
I look back to Killian and he give a light chuckle, "you have a feisty one there, don't you Kate?"
"You have no idea," I glare at Zane. "So, where is your chimera?"
"He will be here soon," Killian says, looking up to the sky.
I see a huge hawk fly down and land next to Killian. He is as big as Zane's retriever.
"This is Ryder, he is a bird chimera."
Ryder friendly squawks at me making me smile. I look to Zane and he says he is going to talk with Ryder for a bit. With that the walk off, out of ear shot. I guess chimeras can speak with other chimeras.
"Looks like they are getting along well," I state.
"It does, what kind of chimera is Zane? Is he a mix?"
"I am not sure to be honest. I don't even know the different kinds."
"Oh, well maybe they will teach us in this class."
"That would be nice because I don't even think Zane knows what he is, at least he hasn't mentioned it before."
The teacher arrives and Zane returns with Ryder. Zane looks like he is deep in thought so I decide not to disturb him. He needs peace and quiet to think.
"Okay class, I am Mr. Pow, but you can call me Leon. We are going to be learning about the supernatural animals that you have been fortunate enough to bond with. We will go around the circle, you will tell us your name, power, and animal."
"I am Pera, I can levitate others, and my animal is a unicorn."
He unicorn is the size of a squirrel and is sitting on her shoulder.
"I am Rex, I have night vision, and my animal is an amphibious chimera."
A little tree frog sits on his head, making me giggle.
"I am Kat, I have light manipulation, and I have a phoenix."
I hear gasps from the rest of the class, I guess phoenixes are rare.
"That is impressive Kat, a phoenix is the second rarest companion on can have," the teacher comments.
Killian introduces himself and everyone backs up except for me when they find out he is a demon. Killian doesn't look phased by their actions though and he introduces Ryder. Lastly, it is my turn.
"I am Kate, I am a Tri, and this is Zane, he is a chimera; however, I don't know what kind."
"That's okay, what can he shift into?" Leon asks.
I look over to Zane asking if he knows anything he can't shift into.
'All I know is that I cannot shift into a human, other than that, anything,' he replies.
"He can shift into anything, but a human."
People look at me surprised, shocked, and scared.
"What?" I ask.
"He is a pure chimera; I have never had the chance to meet one. They are usually only bonded to very powerful beings such as gods and angels."
"I didn't know. Odd."
'I guess that kind of makes sense that you are paired with me then, doesn't it?'
'Yup.'
"I will talk about what pure chimeras can do at the end. I will begin with the unicorn. Unicorns can change their size and they can use telekinesis."
He talks a bit about the history of unicorns and how they had to go into hiding after people would start hunting them.
"Then we have the amphibious chimera. They can turn into any amphibian, alive or extinct. They can poison its enemy with a bite in its true form but cannot use this power unless it is in its true form. Next is the bird chimera. These can turn into any bird alive or extinct. They have the ability to fly and when in their true form, they can manipulate wind which makes them powerful and their bonded powerful as well because they can use an element. Then there is the phoenix, they stay in their true form of a fire bird and can change size. They have the power of fire and can use it whenever considering it is always in its true form. The fire element is a powerful element and a hard one to control. Sometimes the bonded of a phoenix can also control fire on top of its abilities, but this is extremely rare."
"I bet I could control it if I try to."
"We will see, in this class you and your bonded will practice together and see what you have in common. Lastly, we will talk about the pure chimera. The pure chimera is the most powerful animal you can be bonded to and for that reason it is almost always bonded to an extremely powerful being. They can shift into any creature that is not a human and can use the powers in any form."
'What powers do you have Zane?'
'I have no freaking clue, but I am so excited to learn them!'
I laugh at his reaction and go back to listening.
"There hasn't been word of a pure chimera since Noc's, God of the Night, chimera that went missing almost eighteen years ago when he was banished. It is said that when the person that is bonded to the creature dies, the creature will forget all memories and look for another person to bond with."
My eyes widen and I look over to Zane, 'were you by dad's bonded?'
'I mean, it is possible, but I don't remember a thing.'
I just nod along with my thoughts; Zane could have been connected with my dad for who knows how long.
"The most interesting thing about pure chimera's is that they have the same powers as their bonded and while working alongside their bonded they will be more powerful because their powers match each other's."
"What?" I say out loud by accident. "Sorry, I didn't mean to yell that."
"It's quite alright."
'Zane, you know what this means?'
'Does it mean that I have unlimited powers?'
'I think it does. We will have to start training you as well. It's my turn to training you, how the tables have turned,' I laugh.
Zane rolls his eyes at me then looks back to the teacher. The teacher seems to notice us talking with each other.
"You have already mastered the telepathy between each other?"
"Yes, for quite a while now."
I think back to when he first spoke to me, it was when we were first captured to go to the underworld, and he told me how to get to the cells. A smile forms on my face at the memory.
"Today I want all of you working on your telepathy, if you have mastered that you can move onto transformation and size change. Once you have completed that you may work on the powers. You must do these in this order otherwise you can drain your powers fully."
We all nod in response and I turn to Killian, "what stage are you at?" I ask.
"We need to work on out shifting, he can transform into a hawk and eagle right now, but nothing else yet. What about you?"
"I think we are on the powers stage; Zane can shift into anything he wants." Zane nods in agreement.
We walk back from the group to begin practicing, "you ready Zane?" I question.
'Definitely.'
"Okay, what do you want to start with?"
'How about fire.'
"Right to the good stuff I see," I laugh, "are you sure."
He nods, "Alright," I respond.
"Feel the tingle of your magic flow through your veins, focus on the heat pooling at your chest and move the heat just in front of you. Keep making it hotter until it forms a fire ball. It may help to envision the fireball in your mind. Think of the size and the control you have over it."
I see a spark form in front of him and then a fire ball soon forms afterwards. It grows into a tennis ball size and stops.
"Is that how big you wanted it?"
He nods.
"Perfect, now," I say stepping in front of him, "release it, throwing it at me."
'You sure?'
I nod. He focuses and throws the fireball at me which I catch in my hands.
"That was awesome! Good job!" I exclaim.
I hear a huff come from behind me and I turn to see Kat looking at me angrily. She mumbles something to the phoenix and the phoenix sighs and flies over to Zane and I. It tries to conjure up a fireball and I see a spark, but the phoenix faints. Before it could crash to the ground, potentially injuring itself, I use my telekinesis to catch her and lower her to the ground slowly.
"Kat, what was that? What stage are you on?"
"Um...telepathy."
"You could have seriously injured your bonded by doing what you did. You must be grateful that Kate caught her before she broken any bones."
Kat looks over at me, anger spreads across her face with a hint of embarrassment.
"You must take the process slowly and not skip steps; you must bond mentally with your creature. Kate and Zane clearly have an amazing, strong bond as if they have been through a lot together."
If only he knew just how much we have been through together and it is only starting.
"Killian and Ryder also has another amazing bond. I can see Pera and Rex becoming closer and strengthening their bond with their bonded. You mustn't order your bonded around; they can break the bond and find someone else if you mistreat them. Be careful Kat, or you may lose her. Before class ends, I want everyone to tell us what your bonded's name is."
"This is Zane."
"This is Ryder."
"This is Louise," Pera introduces.
"This is Bomber," Rex says.
"Mine is Flame," Kat says as Flame wakes up.
Flame shoots Kat an angry look and Kat just brushes it off, not even trying to apologize. I would not be surprized if Flame didn't stay with Kat for a week. We head start to leave, but Leon asks for me to stay back to speak with me. I tell Killian that I will meet him at the bleachers for lunch with everyone else.
"What's up Leon?" I ask.
"Is there something I need to know? No one in history has ever been bonded to a pure chimera unless they are a god or an angel. Can you explain how you are bonded to Zane here?"
I think of what I should say until I feel another presence standing behind me. I whip around only to see Jack. I release the breath I was holding. Hopefully he can help me out.
"Ah Leon, how are you?"
"Good Jack. I am just talking to a student right now if you wouldn't mi..."
"I know why you are speaking with Kate. I just came here to clear things up. She was in my power practice class last year and again this year. She is truly strong and hasn't lost a fight yet. I hear she took down a vampire on Riverwood pack territory yesterday. She was probably bonded with Zane because she is strong even though she isn't a goddess."
"I guess that makes sense. I am happy for you Kate; you have a rare find here and I hope you will teach him to master your powers."
"I will Leon, thank you."
Leon leaves us and I turn to Jack, "thank god you came, you are a life saver!"
He chuckles, "no problem. I read his mind when I saw him talking to you. He still isn't completely convinced, but he shouldn't bother you again. If you ever need help training Zane and yourself, I will be more than happy to."
"Thank you, Jack. Can I ask you a question?"
"Sure."
"Is there any way to contact your guide without knowing where they are?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Daniel, I haven't heard from him since before the break. I am a bit worried."
"You can try to reach him telepathically. Being who you are, you can probably reach him wherever he is."
"Thank you again Jack."
"Glad I could help."
With that he walks away, and I head over to the bleacher, Zane walking beside me. I get there and everyone is there, even Jason and Nix.
"Hey guys!"
"Hey Kate! How were your classes so far?" Jared asks.
"They were great, how are you guys settling in? any troubles?"
"People don't want to be close to us, but that is okay with me. Less drama that way," Talia states.
"Yeah, in power practice Jared and I were paired because no one else will battle us. If we can't battle against others, how do we improve?" Mikhail asks sadly.
"Talk to Jack about it, he will understand and help you out."
"Thanks Kate," Jared says.
We eat in silence for a bit until Nix asks to talk with me. I follow him to the wall of the school where there is privacy.
"Not going to beat me up, are you?" I ask jokingly.
Obviously, he didn't get the tone, "what? No, I would never do that knowing it was you, I am so sor..."
I cut him off, "I was only kidding Nix, calm down. What do you want to talk about?"
"Oh right," he chuckles nervously, "I just wanted to know if you and that Killian guy have something going on between you."
I roll my eyes, "Nix, I told you I will try to give this a shot, we are just fooling around like friends do. He knows I am your mate, I made sure to tell him that."
I see a slight smirk grow on his face, "you told him you have a mate."
"Kind of, yes."
"What do you mean 'kind of'?"
"Well, I told him I am your mate, but not that you are mine considering I still don't know yet."
"Okay, thank you for telling him either way."
I nod and make my way back to the bleachers. We eat in silence and have the odd random conversation here and there. Soon it is time for the rest of the classes of the day. Killian and I walk to the change room and I realize both Nix and Jason aren't in my power practice class this year. They are with Talia and Lina in Ms. Kennedy's class. Killian meets me on the field, and we walk over to see Jack.
"Hey Jack, long time no see," I chuckle.
He laughs back, "Who is this Kate?"
"Oh, this is my friend Killian he is a new student here."
"Ah, you are one of the Ravenier demons here. Nice to meet you," he holds out a hand and Killian shakes it. "I met your two friends, Jared and Mikhail, this morning. Quite the character those two."
"They are definitely something else, I will give you that," Killian jokes.
"This year we have both Lucy and Peter in the class, I am excited to see you battle them Kate."
"I am too, you should be excited for Killian ask well. He has an extra power ask well."
"Oh wow, I have never met a Ravenier demon that has a special power. Truth be told I have only met two others other than today, though. What is your power?"
"Telekinesis."
"Ah, your powers are very similar to Kate's then. You have three powers like her, but she has fire control and you have super strength," he gives me a wink, knowing I have that power as well.
"Why will it be so special to battle with this Lucy and Peter?"
"Because," Peter says from behind us, "we are two of the Di's at this school. Nice to meet you," Killian and Peter shake hands.
"I am Killian, special Ravenier demon. Nice to meet you."
"Cool! I have never met a demon before. I mean other than the brief run in with a demon servant a few weeks ago at the party."
"What?"
"Oh, right. Luca's first attempt at grabbing me to forcefully bring me to the underworld. He sent demon servants and then brought two hell hounds."
"Oh my god, that makes so much more sense now. Two hell hounds disappeared a few weeks back and everyone was so confused. All of a sudden, they appeared in Aluca's business office."
"Ah yes, that would have been my fault. I sent them there and the demon servants to the cells."
"Geez girl, you have been through all of that and how old are you?"
"This all started on my seventeenth birthday, almost a year ago now."
"Wait! Almost a year ago? When is your birthday?"
"Why do you want to know. There is no point in celebrating since I have to think of what to do with this upcoming war," I whisper to Killian, so Peter doesn't hear.
"All the more reason to celebrate, this may be the last birthday all of us can celebrate with you. Who knows where we will all be in a year after everything happens?"
"Friday," I mumble.
"What?"
"It's on Friday."
"Talia is going to be mad. That will not be enough time for her."
I laugh, "I bet she will figure something out."
"True."
Everyone arrives on the field. There is Killian, Peter, Lucy, Pera, and John. I know everyone which is great. I don't think I can deal with another mean girl at this school.
