Once the verdict was over Ruby and Ray uncuffed me and to their surprise I headed for the exit and not Damien. We'd finished the case and now we all needed our space and I wasn't going to try giving either one of them any pressure. In fact as I was leaving I stop to thank Damien's mother for coming as well as slipped her some money.
"Thanks for coming and all the information." I whispered in her ear, "Here's some money take Damien and his friends out to eat as a celebration it'll get their minds off things."
"What about you?" asked Damien's mom. She'd shown me the letters she'd received from Damien.
"They need some time without me as I need some time to think about what I'm going to do." I replied with the best fake smile I had which could fool anyone but the best of mothers.
"Remember you can always talk to me dear." replied Damien's mother with the sweetest smile.
