Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

His eyes scanned her body, noting her injuries. He'd gotten to her quickly, so she only had a couple of deep gashes on her arms. If she went to a hospital, she would be patched up and fine. Part of him wanted to do exactly that. But another part of him wanted to rip her apart and drain her blood entirely. He sat her up, playing with her hair nonchalantly. It stuck to his fingertips, his hands still slick with the men's crimson lifeline. "Why hello there, pretty little girl." He purred in a silky voice over her sobbing. His hand stroked her cheek and she cringed from his touch. "Blaise… I- I'm scared. What's going on? What did they do to you?" He shook his head, his eyes meeting hers.

"Hush there, sweetie. Don't you worry about that." Slowly, he moved closer, stroking her hair gently. For a moment, her expression softened, leaning into his touch. Suddenly, she jerked back. "Why are your eyes red. What are you? And what have you done to my Blaise?" He pressed a finger to her lips, smearing blood on her lips. He leaned in close and sunk his fangs into the soft, silky skin of her neck. He sucked desperately on the wound, the sweet, hot blood filling his mouth with ecstasy. At first, she pushed him away to no effect, but after a while she gave up, resigning herself to the cold caress of death.

Suddenly, his eyes flicked open with alarming speed. He pushed himself away from her with contempt. Spitting up blood, he stared down at himself and screamed. "What did I do? What the hell am I? Oh my Gogh… Gogh! Why can't I say Gogh." Every attempt of saying the Lord's name only ended in profuse gagging. He heard heavy wheezing behind him. He whirled around to find Raven in a crumpled heap, barely keeping her eyes open. "Oh Gogh I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry. Don't look at me. Don't even look. I'm a monster. I'm a monster!" He screamed at the sky, turning away from her again. Her brow furrowed and she shook her head gently. "Nnnh." She spluttered, desperately pulling at his arm. Feeling her pulling, Blaise turned to her. Her face was free of tears, she looked almost happy, for some reason. She was untouched, other than the gashes on her arms and the puncture marks on her neck, trailing her crimson lifeline. She motioned him closer, after coughing for a minute, clearing her throat. "Hey, its okay. The wolves drew you to me. Its odd, there are no wolves on Rapa Nui. But none of that matters now. Just… don't blame yourself. I'm the one who wanted us to come here to figure it out. Its not your fault." She whispered, reaching out to cradle his face in her hand. "Its not your fault."

"Y-you're not afraid of me?" Blaise whispered back, tears pricking at his eyes. Ray smiled at that. "I resigned myself to death from the wolves. I'm just happy I get to spend the rest of my life with you, no matter how short, curse or no curse." Tears flowed freely down Blaise's face as they cradled each other in their arms.

Raven reached out a hand to his face, gently stroking his cheek, wiping away a tear. "Hey, don't cry. Lets just enjoy the time we have." She smiled, thinking about a topic to talk about. "When we were at the gate before and I cut you off. What were you going to say?" This time, it was Blaise that smiled, chuckling in surprise. "I- uh. Well I was going to tell… you… that..." Raven narrowed her eyes. "What? You'd deny a woman her dying wish?" She jeered, her voice thick with sarcasm. Blaise looked horrified at that, but smiled slightly when Raven rolled her eyes. "Fine. I was gonna tell you that… I love you." He sighed, clearly glad to get it off his chest. "I love you, Raven Reynolds."

"And I love you, Blaise Blackblood. Fangs, claws and all." She whispered in her usual Raven humor. She flashed him her signature crooked grin and pulled him closer. She kissed him full on the lips, his lips working against hers, soft and gentle, afraid to hurt her further. When they broke apart for air, she swallowed. "Everything's going dark. I- I don't think we have much time." She looked at him with a determined look in her eyes. "Its okay. I'll be with you always. In here." She pressed a shaking finger to his chest. "Remember me, and I'll always be with you." He nodded, holding her tightly, not wanting to let her go to the cold caress of death. She looked him in the eyes, not afraid to look at the pulsing scarlet orbs. "Hey, I need to tell you something."

"What is it?" His brow furrowed as she kissed his cheek gently, her black lipstick leaving an imprint on the stark white of his cheek. Her lips moved to his ear.

"You're not as bad as you think you are…" She whispered with her last breath. Blaise could feel the life leave her body and tears flowed freely like Niagara Falls as he screamed into the sky. The sky heard his agonizing cries and hailed a monsoon of rain down upon him. He held the lifeless corpse in his arms, lamenting into the sky for as long as he could. We are all the masks we wear and his was weeping…
