Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

Plan B.

Now Ruby didn't exactly have an entire plan, it was more of a general idea.

The main plan was to go into another story, but try and communicate with the characters in the story. It had to make sense—they lived in the story so shouldn't they know about the other stories? Perhaps they could help her when she messed up Little Red Riding Hood. Maybe they knew how to fix it. It was only a matter of when she could do it. She was still at school, of course. The homework was starting to pile up and more tests and quizzes were coming up as well. Plus she had books to read for book club and stuff to write for Writer's club, and she needed to find the time, but then again, the time supposedly doesn't go by when you're in the stories, but what if it was different this time? Who knows?

It was a chilly autumn day, Wednesday to be exact. Martha and Lola weren't at the dorms that afternoon because of their clubs, Ruby had finished her homework and had studied for a considerable amount of time. It was her perfect chance. Now, hopefully the time wouldn't pass like it did last time. Hopefully.

Taking a deep breath in, she calmed herself down and grabbed the book from under her bed. She flipped through the pages carefully, and came across The Princess and the Pea. This story isn't that long and should be easy enough, Ruby thought. Reading the page, the words smudged and melted together, the room spinning, and Ruby realizing she had forgotten about the process of getting there. She stumbled about and had the feeling of almost throwing up.

A crack of thunder was heard and she felt the rain pouring on her face. Gasping for breath, she sat up. Looking around at her surroundings, she was in front of an old castle, sitting in a scratchy brown dress with many patches and rips. How stylish, Ruby thought sarcastically. Now, in the story the princess goes knocking on the door to ask for a place to stay the night. I need to get the information that I need, but first I want them to let me in, and I really don't want to stay out in the freezing cold rain.

And so she knocked.
