For the next six hours casualties were drag to Doctor Trueborn, while the rest of the dead were as he ordered to be taken to the morgue to be buried. His assistant was sent twice to the governing office for healing stones. All he was given was chips which barely could stop the bleeding or heal small wounds.
Finally the cot bearers stopped bringing them into his office but every possible space was occupied by wounded solders except for a small walkway. Even the strange girl who seemed to have set this all off, was shoved under his own cot within his private office.
The cot bearers were shouting the news to the crowd outside that the beast was dead and being lifted within. A list of wounded and dead would be placed up on the notice board in the town square within the hour. No one was allowed into the captain's or guard rooms until further notice is given.
Night approached and the doctor Trueborn and his aids went to eat while the patients rested. The two cot bearers guarded the door so no one would disturb them. Most of the town was happily celebrating their first successful beast hunt.
Thirty solders out of the hundred had died and another 25 were severely wounded, over half their fighting force had been decreased. More then likely there would continue to be casualties. Somehow they still celebrated.
Usually these corrupted beast would flee unless cornered when confronted by a large force but this one seemed to be in a frenzy. It would probably take a week to process all of it. The massive thing by weight alone was most probably about 2000lb.
It seemed to be mostly lizard like in its outer appearance with six limbs, a massive tail and sword length teeth. Hopefully it would provide them with multiple gems or at least one massive one. Some of the time they carried hundreds of small gems, no matter what it would make the town richer.
Across town within the doctors office the large loosened gem sank slowly back into its host and started to pulse in rhythm with a heart beat. The small light grow slowly brighter then suddenly a huge surge of power erupted unfelt but seen as a piercingly bright multicolored light.
The small gems and chips that had been used instantly vaporized as their power was fully utilized to heal at a massive scale. The cot bearers screamed and separated one ran for the doctor as the other high tailed it to the captain's office. The captain had forbid entry unless they faced another attack so it would take quite a while to gain his attention.
The doctor Trueborn on the other hand and his aid came as soon as they finished their last two bites of food. The cot bearer was too afraid to go back inside because of that bizarre light and stayed a good fifty feet away shivering in fright.
When entering the room the found no one moaning or crying, in fact most were sleeping soundly even those he thought would be dead before he even returned. All seemed to be breathing much easily and their fevers were gone, one of the worst results of contact with the beast that were corrupted was the fever.
This fever would always undoubtedly lead to all the men's death, only a large gem of true healing could stop this fate. Doctor Trueborn knew only six had been found in the last 100 year's and resided within the High Churches within the kingdom's. Only one was held by a secret cult that existed in a unknown location.
Strangely the ones with small cuts and lesser wounds started to soon wake up asking to go join their comrades. Each time the doctor removed their bandages he found the wounds totally healed and none had a trace of fever. So he released them with a warning about fever or any new signs.
By morning even those with the more severe wounds showed little to no wounds. and no fever and had returned to barracks or homes. Only three were still sleeping soundly their wounds could be seen quickly closing and healing. Some even looked to be fading as if years had passed already instead of a single night.
Doctor Trueborn was extremely puzzled and could not understand why they were healing instead of dying. Yes, he had tried even used some small gems and fragments but that had not ever healed or stopped the fever before . He should know in his younger days he had went on several hunts to help get gems for the king.
However for the last twenty years he had served this small garrison because it never had any recorded attacks until today in the last 200 year's. Him and his wife had wanted to settle and have children but now it was too late and his wife now wanted to adopt a child.
Sadly this town had few choices to choose from only two who were almost ready to join the guard being 14 and 15 years of age. Finally by lunch the following day his last patient left and he went to his office to sit down and write his report to the king. How had they healed what did he do different so they would do so?
After about a hour his aid reported that the office was back in order and asked to go see the beast processing. Trueborn excused him to th event figuring it might encourage the lad to go get his degree and maybe sometime soon take his place when it was time to retire.
Soon after that the doctor swung himself into his cot to think, that's when he noticed a small crackling sound. Jumping up when he remembered the small child who had been most decidedly dead. Huge claw marks had racked it from her upper right shoulder all the way through her left buttock.
His first glance had showed all the ribs, flash and internal organs had been shredded and the blow had been deep. Even the body had showed no signs of blood drainage most likely bleed out from where it happen to when she arrived here.
Well he would take a look and record details incase any one bother to come look. How he figured it someone had tossed her body over the wall. Damn savages if you asked him with problem arising lately with fertility he would have love to take her off their hands. Once again that strange magic had even affected the dead body, sealing the gashes shut. Only leaving ten raw scars.
Her took the small body gently off its cot onto the cleansed table and gently began to clean it. It was completely filthy covered head to toe in blood, slime and dirt from head to toe. After quite a bit of effort he had cleaned it from head to toe. Throwing away her leather shredded clothing that barely had stayed upon her body. He was astounded by what he saw.
She had dark green hair a color he had never seen before, proven true from the roots, her face was extremely delicate with the same green colored eyebrows framing oval shaped eyes. She was tan from head to toe and it was apparent she had probably never had shoes.
There was only one apparent deadly wound directly over the area of the heart and even it was slowly closing. Bringing a lamp over for a closer look Trueborn saw a reflection from something shiny inside the hole. Grabbing a pair of plyer he tried to feel what it was but it was large and very hard, perhaps a claw had broken off its tip.
The doctor hesitated not wanting to inflect any more damage to this poor soul body then was necessary. Sadly even a beast claws were worth a lot and maybe it was the reason for the strange healing. It could be a godly gift, a extremely helpful tool to help out hundreds in the future curing diseases and wounds. even if short lived.
He slowly opened the wound to try to find where to cut it out when suddenly it shoved the plyers and knife out of the wound. The larger prismatic crystal he had ever seen, pulsed brightly then sank deep into the child's chest instantly sealing the hole as if it had never existed or happened in the first place.
The child body thrashed and pulsed, it's chest started to rise and fall as she began to breath once again. Color started to come back into its body then slowly she opened her eyes and took a look at a man that stood over her body.
