Chapter 45 - Rescuing Riho

rl stood resolutely by the window of his safehouse, the weight of the impending assault against Fernando pressing heavily on his shoulders. He knew that the success of this mission was critical—not just for himself but for the safety of Riho and Sahoko. His mind was a whirlwind of strategic calculations, each choice fraught with the risk of life or death.

With purposeful strides, Karl walked to his vault and carefully unlocked it. Inside was a small, ornate box. He opened it and withdrew a diamond, its facets glimmering under the light. Karl examined the gem closely, his fingers delicately tracing its surface.

"This diamond represents the beauty of the one who gave it to me," he murmured, his voice filled with a mixture of admiration and sorrow. "It also embodies the despair we all felt during the war." His thoughts wandered back to the dark days of conflict, each memory a stark reminder of the past.

A shiver ran down Karl's spine. He turned and saw a ghostly figure of Riko standing at the far end of the room, her presence ethereal and clothed in white. His heart raced, the vision matching the oracle's prophecy: a woman in white would await him.

"Your beauty remains untouched, even in death," Karl whispered, his voice trembling with a mix of love and regret. He closed his eyes, struggling to hold back tears. "As much as I long to join you and Riho, there's unfinished business here. I must protect Riho and the children—a responsibility I failed to uphold for you."

With renewed resolve, Karl opened his eyes. The image of Riko slowly faded, but her presence lingered, instilling him with the strength he needed. He knew this mission wasn't merely about revenge; it was about securing the future of his loved ones.

Karl took a deep breath, steeling himself for the battle ahead. He couldn't afford any mistakes. After one last, lingering look at the diamond, he returned it to the box and locked the vault.

An hour later, Karl picked up his phone and dialed Cardinal Marino's number. Tears streamed down his face as he spoke, his voice breaking with emotion. "This may be the last time we speak," he choked out. "You know how deeply I love my wife. I vowed to protect her and my faith with my life."

The Cardinal's voice was stern yet compassionate. "Your recklessness could be your downfall. This war will only end when either you or Fernando is defeated."

"Sacrifices are necessary to save lives," Karl replied. "I've always counted my sins. I am a sinner."

"That doesn't justify your death," the Cardinal argued. "You know you're risking eternal damnation."

"If Riho dies, I will live in eternal despair," Karl insisted. "I would regret it until my last breath. If saving her means there's only a thirty percent chance I survive, I'll accept it, even if it means going to hell."

"More likely, you'll die and leave her alone," the Cardinal countered.

"Even if Emi survives," Karl said, "my son will wage war, and the horrors of genocide and patricide will follow."

"I will pray for your safe return," the Cardinal said. "Cooperatores Pax."

"Dominus est!" Karl responded before ending the call.

A young woman peeked through the door, drawing Karl's attention. She resembled Bianca and was around Jessica's age.

"Oh, it's you," Karl said. "Have you found your sisters?"

"Yes, they're unconscious but safe," the girl replied.

"You've done well," Karl said, patting her on the head. He then sat on the couch, staring out the window. "This misery must end."

On the fifth day of their captivity, the Marino siblings continued to suffer. Rafael lay in a cold, dimly lit room, bound to a bed, his naked body exposed to the chill. Erina watched him with sadistic pleasure, sipping from a glass of wine.

"Let me go!" Rafael demanded, his voice hoarse.

"I'll only let you go when you're dead," Erina replied, her tone cold and mocking.

"I will never love you!" Rafael shouted. Enraged, Erina struck him with the wineglass, shattering it against his face.

"You're mine," she declared, climbing on top of him and gripping his neck. "We will be together until death."

Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, and Erina collapsed, a bullet having struck her head. Rafael's eyes widened in shock as he witnessed her violent death.

"Rafael, are you alright?" a familiar voice called from the doorway. Rafael turned to see Kanna standing there, a silenced pistol in hand.

"I don't know how to react," Rafael said, his body covered in Erina's blood. "How did you find me?"

"My husband mentioned your situation," Kanna explained, untying him. "I came to help."

Rafael and Kanna shared a brief, emotional kiss, rekindling their past love amidst the chaos.

"I need to rescue my siblings," Rafael said urgently. "I know they're locked in the basement."

"Let's go," Kanna said. The two moved swiftly through the mansion, leaving Erina's lifeless body behind, as they made their way to free the remaining Marino siblings.

In the dimly lit basement of the mansion, Riho and the Marino siblings were tightly bound together, the tension in the air thick with dread. Their faces were marked with a mix of fear and defiance as they awaited their grim fate. Sahoko's intense gaze bore into one of the guards, her fists clenched in futile anger.

"Your glares won't do you any good," the guard sneered, his voice dripping with contempt.

"I'd rather die than keep staring at your ugly face," Sahoko shot back, her voice defiant as she spat at him.

Infuriated by Sahoko's defiance, the guard stepped forward and slapped her across the face, the harsh sound echoing in the cold, concrete room. The violence shattered the tense silence, but before the siblings could react, the basement was abruptly filled with the soft, rhythmic pops of a silenced pistol. Three guards collapsed, their bodies crumpling to the floor in a lifeless heap. The Marino siblings froze, confusion and fear etched on their faces. Slowly, Megan appeared in the basement doorway, her face set in a determined expression, holding a silenced pistol.

"Did you really kill them?" Kyoko asked, her voice trembling with a mix of hope and suspicion.

"Yes," Megan replied with a nod, her tone steady and resolute.

"Why should we trust a traitor like you?" Mako demanded, his eyes narrowing in distrust.

"Because I'm following Dad's orders," Megan answered firmly, starting to untie her siblings. "If we don't work together, none of us are going to make it out of here alive."

Without wasting any more time, Megan freed her siblings from their bonds. They moved quickly, slipping through the basement's shadows and making their way towards the mansion's exit with a sense of urgency.

As they approached the mansion's main entrance, their escape route was abruptly blocked by Fernando's men, who had barricaded all possible exits. Fernando emerged from his office, his face twisted into a sinister grin.

"Where do you think you're going?" Fernando asked, his tone cold and mocking. "I knew you couldn't be trusted, Megan."

"My family is more important to me than any wealth or power," Megan retorted, leveling her pistol at Fernando with a steely gaze.

"It's a shame your whole family will pay the price for your betrayal," Fernando said, raising his hand to signal his men. Just as the guards began to move, gunfire erupted from the mansion's balcony and down the hallway, breaking the impending confrontation.

"Playtime's over," Arjan's voice rang out, cutting through the noise as he aimed his pistol directly at Fernando.

"Arjan, my old friend! It's been too long," Fernando said with a mocking tone. "Let's finish this."

"That's why I'm here, you fool!" Arjan retorted, his voice filled with determination. Behind him, Fumi, Kazusa, and Chuck burst into the room, joining him in the fight.

"Uncle Arjan!" Rafael called out, a look of relief crossing his face as he prepared for the impending battle. Fernando sneered, "You're just like your best friend—stubborn as ever." He leapt into action, opening fire on Arjan and his group, forcing them onto the balcony. There, a fierce gunfight ensued between Fernando's men and Arjan's reinforcements.

"Megan, get them to safety!" Arjan shouted over the din of gunfire, his voice urgent as he fired at Fernando's soldiers. His actions provided the necessary cover for Megan and the siblings to seek refuge. Just then, five vehicles screeched to a halt at the mansion, each brimming with armed men. The entrance became a chaotic battlefield, with fierce firefights erupting between Arjan's team, the Marino siblings, and Fernando's reinforcements.

"It looks like the Serranos, Fontierras, and Almeidas have joined the fray," Fumika observed, her face set in grim determination as she unleashed a barrage of bullets at one of the vans, instantly killing seven men inside.

"We're being overwhelmed," Kazusa said with a fierce grin, tossing a grenade at another van, the explosion sending debris flying and killing everyone inside. However, the situation quickly escalated as another wave of vans arrived, this time bringing in troops from the Red Scorpions.

"Oh God, save us," Arjan murmured, his eyes widening as the sound of approaching helicopters filled the air.

"It's the government!" Chuck exclaimed as helicopters landed, disgorging soldiers who immediately engaged the Red Scorpions and their allies. One of the choppers touched down near the mansion's swimming pool, and Rafael and Kanna rushed to the patio, where they found Jiena and Jessica already engaged in a fierce exchange of gunfire with their enemies.

"Is everyone okay?" Jiena shouted, her voice barely audible over the gunfire.

"Reinforcements are here. We just need to hold on," Jessica added, her voice strained but resolute. Rafael glanced at Kanna, his eyes reflecting a mix of relief and urgency. "I need to go rescue my siblings. It was good to see you again."

"Enough with the chatter," Jessica interrupted, her attention shifting to the escalating battle. "We need to get back inside and help our siblings."

---

As the battle raged on, Kazuki was leading his family toward the kitchen, where a potential escape route promised a sliver of hope. Just as they neared the doorway, Rodall, one of the three notorious traitors, emerged from the shadows with a menacing glare. With ruthless efficiency, he launched himself at Kazuki, slamming him against the wall with a powerful impact. Rodall's fists and boots rained down upon Kazuki's abdomen, each blow a brutal testament to his ferocity.

"Kazuki!" Riho's voice cracked with anguish as she watched her son being mercilessly beaten.

Takeru, Muro, and Marla arrived in the nick of time. They wasted no time in springing into action, each of them determined to defend their brother.

"Kazuki, get Sahoko and Riho to the chopper!" Muro commanded, his voice urgent as he brandished a knife.

"We'll take care of this scum," Marla added, her voice steely as she landed a powerful punch to Rodall's face, momentarily staggering him.

Kazuki, struggling to catch his breath but driven by his family's safety, scooped up his mother and sister and rushed them toward the waiting helicopter. The chopper's engines roared to life as he ensured their safety, setting them down with a sense of urgency.

Meanwhile, Muro, Marla, and Takeru faced off against Rodall, who was a skilled demolitions expert and ruthless assassin. His sneer was as deadly as his reputation.

"It would be a pity if Karl Marino had to find out the three of you were dead," Rodall taunted, his voice dripping with malice.

"He couldn't care less," Takeru replied coldly. "It's either you die here, or we do."

With a mutual nod, Muro and Marla each seized a knife from the kitchen's drawers and lunged at Rodall. The assassin deftly dodged their attacks, countering with precise kicks that sent them sprawling to the floor.

Undeterred, Takeru charged forward, unleashing a rapid barrage of punches aimed at Rodall's face and neck. Rodall stumbled back under the assault. Seizing the moment, Muro recovered and grabbed Rodall by the neck. With a powerful twist, Muro snapped Rodall's neck, his eyes cold and focused.

To ensure their foe was truly defeated, Marla moved swiftly and decisively, slitting Rodall's throat with her knife, ensuring there was no chance of recovery.

Breathing heavily, the siblings paused to assess their injuries and regroup.

"Look at the two of you," Marla said, attempting to lighten the mood despite the seriousness of their situation. "You both look like eggplants."

"You don't say," Muro retorted with a wry smile. His gaze shifted to the back door, where Fernando was attempting to escape. "Fernando's making a run for it. Let's get him!"

Without hesitation, the trio sprinted toward the back door. Their path was immediately blocked by a barrage of gunfire from the remaining Red Scorpion soldiers. The three siblings took cover behind the mansion's walls, returning fire with precision.

The intense gunfight saw bullets whizzing past, ricocheting off walls, and creating chaos all around. Yet, their focus remained unwavering. Each sibling moved with coordinated precision, their actions a testament to their years of training and shared resolve.

"Push forward!" Takeru shouted above the cacophony of gunfire, his voice resolute and commanding.

Muro and Marla nodded in agreement, advancing steadily while their weapons roared in unison. The siblings fought with fierce determination, their unbreakable bond and commitment to their family driving them forward.

As the last of the Red Scorpion soldiers fell, the siblings regrouped, breathless but undaunted. They knew the battle was far from over—Fernando was still out there, and they were resolved to see this fight through to the end.

"Let's finish this," Muro declared, his eyes steely with resolve.

With a determined nod, the siblings pressed on, prepared to face whatever challenges lay ahead, united by their fierce loyalty and unwavering dedication to protect their family.

Outside the fortified mansion, Kyoko, Rina, and Megan worked quickly to open the gates, allowing the tanks sent by President Seo and reinforcements from the Ojeda clan to enter the battlefield. The sound of gunfire and explosions grew louder as Eugene emerged, his face set in grim determination.

Without hesitation, Eugene began to mercilessly shoot at members of the Red Scorpions, his actions fueled by the desire to avenge his father. "This is for my father!" Eugene shouted as he gunned down another group of soldiers.

"Eugene, we've got this covered," Kyoko called out, her voice cutting through the chaos. "Go assist Uncle Arjan inside."

Eugene nodded, his gaze filled with purpose as he joined the assault on the mansion.

----

Inside the mansion, Arjan and the rest of the team were methodically combing through the building, searching for any valuable documents or possessions that Fernando might have hidden. The area was strewn with the remnants of battle—broken furniture, scattered papers, and the occasional discarded weapon. The Red Scorpion soldiers had been subdued, and the chaos of the fight had momentarily settled into a tense calm.

Just then, Tiffany burst into the room, her face flushed with urgency. Her arrival was a welcome sight for Arjan and the Marino siblings, who had been working tirelessly to secure the mansion.

"Tiffany, you've arrived just in time," Arjan greeted her, his tone a mixture of relief and concern. "Where is Karl?"

Tiffany's expression was grim. "He's chasing Fernando, Javier, and the other two fugitives into the forest. That's why I came—to ask for your help. He'll be outnumbered."

The room fell silent as Arjan and the Marino siblings absorbed the news. Their faces mirrored shock and disbelief.

"Why the hell would he go after them alone?" Arjan's voice was tinged with frustration. "He's going to get himself killed."

Tiffany's gaze was resolute. "I'm going to face Svetlana alone as well. I'm not sure about the others—Albert, Shrimpo, or Jude Almeida. But one thing's certain: either Karl kills Javier and Fernando, or they'll kill him."

Jiena and Rafael exchanged worried glances, their concern palpable. The stakes had suddenly become much higher, and the urgency of the situation was clear. Tiffany reached into her bag and pulled out a set of hidden blades and pistols, handing them to Jiena and Rafael.

"Just in case you decide to help your father," she said, her voice steady despite the tension. "I'm heading into the forest to assist him."

With their hearts heavy with a mix of vengeance, justice, and an overwhelming concern for their father, Jiena and Rafael accepted the weapons. They shared a final, resolute look before they made their way out of the mansion.
