Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Joe's POV

The final bell of the day rings and my stomach flips, I have been dreading this all day. I wipe my sweaty palms on my pants and collect my things, slowly walking to my locker and trying my best to will time to slow down.

I feel a light pat on my back and I turn to see Ally giving me a sympathetic smile. "Don't worry Joe, you'll be fine." She says and I nod and unlock my locker.

"I mean it's just tutoring how bad could it be?" She continues and I groan and bang my head on the locker, the sound ringing out through the corridor.

"Bad Ally. Really bad. I don't know if I'm any good at teaching and I don't even know this person, what if they don't like me?" I whine and pout.

"It will be fine, you're a big boy. You can handle it" she says giving me one last pat on the back and wishing me good luck.

I stuff my books into my bag and hurry towards Mrs. Banci's office. I knock on the door but I don't think either of them are here yet. I lean against the wall, close my eyes and let out a long sigh. My eyes snap open when I hear a scoff. It's that boy that I noticed yesterday, the one with dark skin and spiky black hair. He has a sharp jawline and high cheekbones, his eyes are brown but they aren't too dark. I notice that he is quite bulky with his muscles straining his t-shirt a little. To sum up, he is really hot.

"What, hard day? Difficult being a know it all?" He asked and my lips part in shock. Was he talking to me? He doesn't even know who I am.

"Excuse me?" I ask with furrowed brows and he just smirks and digs his hands into his pockets.

"You heard what I said." I was about to reply when Mrs. Banci scurries up to us.

"Sorry I'm late boys. I see you've aquatinted yourselves" She said and I have to hold in a snort, aquatinted is not the word I would use.

"Joe, I would just like you to help David with his grammar and other areas he may be struggling with like pronunciation and conjugations, stuff like that." She tells me and I nod my head in response. She then shifts her gaze towards the boy who I'm assuming is David.

"Now if you have any questions or you're struggling with something let Joe know, okay?" She asks him and he just nods his head. She enters her office and motions for us to follow so we do.

"Here" she says handing David some worksheets "I want you to complete these today and Joe will help you alright?" He nods his head again and I smile at her trying to show I intend to be helpful even though he is being a bit of a dick.

"Alright boys, you should probably just go to the library" she says and I nod my head and follow David out of the office. I trail behind him since I don't actually know where the library is. I don't really know what to say to him so we walk in a tense silence. Once we reach the library I follow David to a table and plop down next to him. I pull out my Italian books as well as some of my biology stuff so I have something to occupy myself with while he's filling out the work sheets.

I turn back to him and he's laying back on his chair texting somebody on his phone, I mentally roll my eyes. He's here because he's about to fail and yet he's on his phone, typical. I clear my throat and he looks up at me. His brown eyes pierce my blue ones. I have to look away before I stare at his gorgeous face for too long.

"If you need any help on the work sheets please let me know" I tell him and he just rolls his eyes and finally picks up a pen and begins to work though the activities. I open up my biology text book and being making notes on transcription.

Ten minutes later and David hasn't said anything to me, I tired not to stare at him but I noticed that his pencil has stopped making noises on the paper. I turn to look at him, his brows are furrowed and he looks extremely confused. I turn back to my work, take a deep breath and then turn to face him.

"Do you need some help?" I try to ask in my kindest and most helpful voice. He look at me momentarily and then shakes his head but I can tell that he doesn't understand the activity.

"Are you sure? I am here to help you" I remind him but that seems to have angered him because I gives me a scowl. He shoves his paper towards me. "Fine, help me with this."

I glance down at his paper and read over his instructions. I don't want to just give him the answer because that's not going to help him in the long run so I try my best to explain it to him.

"Ok well you have to conjugate these verbs in the brackets to fit the sentence" I explain which earns me a scoff.

"Yeah genius I got that" He replies and I hold back the urge to punch this guy in the face, he should really be more grateful considering I'm the one who is giving up my afternoon to help him and not the other way around.

"Alright so what would the first one be?" I try to ask softly and I see him clench his pencil really hard.

"Well if I knew that I wouldn't be here would I" he says bitterly, I glance at my watch and sigh. Still half an hour to go you can do it Joey I try and tell myself.

"Alright, well is the sentence past tense or present tense" I ask

"Umm past tense?" He says although he doesn't sound too sure, I give him a small smile.

"Yes exactly, now since it's talking about a habitual activity would the verb conjugate to passato prossimo or imperfetto?" I try to ask and his eyebrows furrow, something I notice he does when he's thinking.

"Um is it imperfetto?" He asks again and I give him a nod and a smile.

"Right, so do you know how to conjugate that verb now?" He nods and I smile, this seems to make him relax a little so his face isn't a permanent scowl.

I decide to keep helping him until our hour has finished. David checks his watch and notices that we have gone over time.

"Shit" he says and fumbles to collect his things, I give him a quizzical look.

"Don't worry, we've only gone over five minutes" I say trying to calm him but he frowns at me.

"Well maybe it doesn't matter to you but I have places to be" He informs me and then rushes out of the library. This time I don't hold back and I roll my eyes, tuning back to my own work and start packing my biology things back up. Well I was worried I was going to have to tutor a jerk and of course with my luck, I did.

As I'm leaving I get a text message from Ally in our new group chat.

Ally: Hey how was the tutoring?

Joe: Awful :(

He was kind of a dick

Josh: That sucks bro

Ally: Who was it anyway?

Joe: Um some kid named David?

Ally: David Sanchez???

Joe: I don't know his surname he certainly didn't introduce himself he was just very angry the whole time.

I put my phone back in my pocket after texting my mum that she should come and pick my up from school. I placed my earphones in and leaned back on the gate until I could see my mum's car pulling up in front of me.

"Ciao bello, how was school?" She asks me while I'm sliding into the front seat.

"It was good ma" I reply before closing my eyes and trying to make myself forget the fact that I have to go through this whole process again next week.
