Chapter 7 - seven :Amelia

Kat falls asleep during the movie and I'm grateful because I didn't really want to keep talking about Jess.

What would I even say, I don't know her, the only thing I do know is that she's Melissa's boyfriend's sister.

I do some light reading, to help me fall asleep.

I get woken up by loud footsteps. "Kat what the hell, why so noisy, is it early? It feels early"

"it is early, mom called, I gotta go" she says as she sprints out the door.

I pull the covers up and I go back to sleep. It's Saturday and I'm not moving.

I get up around lunch and I decide to head over to Massachusetts GH to do some volunteering.  I get ready and tell mom about where I'm headed and she asks if she could join, she loves going to assist at the maternity ward meanwhile I visit the cancer clinic .

I have a friend who works in the clinic, she's in her final year.

Nicole sees me. "Amelia! It been so long, Kennedy said you called".

I spend the afternoon helping out until, mom finds me and says that it's time to go.

We drive home in silence with just the radio in the background.

"your sister's boyfriend is coming to dinner tomorrow night, you've met him what do you think, do you think baba will like him ".

Of course I won't mention the fact that I caught them making out and that was my first impression of him but instead I say,

"he's polite, Charming and seems to really like Mel"

She smiles, "when are you going to invite a boy over"

I don't respond. I just continue to stare out of the window. Ugh we should've taken separate cars.

"I invited John park over for dinner as well, you two always get along so well and baba is quite fond of him "

I sigh. Mom's always so sneaky. John is a really good friend and he made it clear to me that he doesn't think of me romantically which is great because the feeling is mutual.

If only our parents would get that.

We get home and baba calls me, his on his office.

"nice day out with mom" he asks.

"tolerable, also do you know she's inviting John over for dinner too, you could've warned me,bad move dad"

He laughs and shrugs. Dad knows that John and I are just friends, nothing more and he understands that it'll never be anymore more than that.

"you know once your mom gets something into her head there's no way you can change her mind"

"fine, next time warn me old man"

I roll my eyes as I head to the kitchen.

Mom is interrogating Mel about Adrian.

"I wasn't keen on having my daughter date a jock and a non-Korean one might I add" she says firmly.

Melissa states annoyingly in the other direction. Pretending to ignore her.

"there's more to him then just being a jock mom! He gets straight A's, his on the honor roll and he wants to study to become a veterinarian at UC Davis, sounds pretty Korean to me"

Mom scoffs and walks out.

We both start laughing.

After dinner I finish up the last touches for tomorrow's presentation on Nephrology and Hypertension and decide to have an early night.

I wake up and it's still dark but I get ready anyway. I check the time and it's 6:00.

I do not miss the days where we all had to share a bathroom. I have my own and so does mom and baba. So the main bathroom is technically Mel's.

I get everything ready. I throw some coffee into my travel mug and as I head out I can hear everyone else waking up.

Campus isn't as empty as I thought it'll be, I mean it is 7:15.

I see Alex and Kat waking over to me. They probably drove together.

"no nooks and Crannies this morning Lia?" asks Kat.

"nope I wanted to be here early, class starts at 8:00 and it's presentation day, you ready Alex?"

Alex sighs deeply and scratches his head.

"yeah uh, Josh helped me prepare, I'm discussing Pediatrics. Josh also leaves tonght I'm driving him to the airport".

Long distance is hard. We all grew up together me, Kat, Alex and Josh, until Josh got a scholarship to Yale and they started dating that summer. They've been trying their best to make it work.

"he'll be back in a month for my birthday"

We both hug him tightly and make our way to class.
