Chapter 2 - 2

"Hi Mr. W!" Josh exclaimed looking at my father. He gave him a wave. "See you after school". I smiled "See you later dad, have a good day"

"Hopefully I do"

I opened the car door and watched my dad drive off before wrapping my arms around Caroline for a hug, Josh joining in for a warm bear hug. "Good to be back" Caroline spoke as we stood watching the building. I gave her a look. "Can't believe you actually like this place". Josh chuckled as he watched the boys head towards his building. One of his friends stopped wavering him to leave our side. "I guess that's my cue" he said smiling looking at both of us, his blue eyes shimmering in the sunlight. He began walking backwards his eyes focused wide on me. "WHAT ABOUT LAB!" I yelled at him. "YOU CAN'T JUST LEAVE ME ALONE DWEEB!" he chuckled turning around and waved me off walking away, soon he was gone.

My arm was now linked with Caroline going in. Girls were chattering among themselves, some were seated at library tables with books already opened, some were gossiping and some were staring. Oh right, I forgot to mention, today just happened to be the day that I was not adhering to the dress code, my skirt was not at knee length but instead above it. The reason for that being is all my other skirts were dirty and I slipped on something that would just maybe... sort of pass. I was hoping I wouldn't get into trouble for it but with people staring, oogling and talking I was doomed to be called to the principal's office momentarily.

The day ran like any other day: Math class which was a bore. I hated it, my weakest subject and the absolute worse. I just never understood why I would ever need to know it later on in life, like what am I supposed to do with x+y after high school. Luckily I had Caroline with me in the class, I had some sort of company.

The next subject was English. The class was not so bad, now and again there was always a substitute taking the place of the teacher, the rumor was that he was involved with a student that attended the school but denied all allegations to save his job. My English teacher was in his early 30's which explains it and quite the stud but the thought of doing.... that with your own teacher..... grosssss. Everyone questioned his motive, did he actually care about us the students or was he just looking for fun? Either the council was looking for his replacement or he was gone for the time being trying to save his own ass. I settled in my seat as the substitute entered the classroom, no one noticed the figure in the room until a squeaky sound was made on the board from a red marker. The class simmered down "Okay class today...." the teacher in his mid 40's began in his eerie voice. 'God he must hate his job' I thought to myself'. I was one of the few that made it less difficult for him. If I'll admit substitute teachers aren't the best but they're not the worse, I'm scared to know what college professors are like. My head was in 'The Great Gatsby' for the rest of the period.

Next was History. This class is always fun to say the least, a pop quiz here and there but we're always watching a film. This week was Saving Private Ryan, a old film about men in war trying to find this guy whose brothers were killed during the war. I often wonder about times like those in ancient times, like the 1980's, even before. Was everything in black and white as I was told by my parents. I know it's weird but I think about stuff like that versus the society we live in now. In this class, everyone fell asleep during the films excepting me, the teacher and a classmate Amy, quiet, sweet but talkative. I eventually grew fond of her since we were the only ones in the class that actually did the work. I was taking down notes in the class... that is until I got called to the office, just as I expected, to my surprise no one had awoken from their slumber despite my name being blared on the overhead speakers.

I knew what this was about. I walked in and took a seat in front of Principal Brian White. His arms crossed in front of him staring blankly at me. "I knowwwwww" I whined. "You're one of the few students that do get into any trouble Lauren, why are you not following the dress code, it's our first day back"

"I can explain the skirt" I fidgeted "Do I have to tell you". He nodded. "You either tell me or detention" he thought for a while. "Actually" he said taking a yellow slip from the corner of his desk. I knew that yellow slip anywhere. I was for sure getting it. I HATED IT HERE.

"You're getting detention even though it's a slip up" he began writing. "I'm only being fair, follow the dress code Ms. Wicks" he slid the paper over. I groaned "My other skirts are dirty" I gulped "but they're being washed, of course" I rambled on. "I had no choice". The principal stared at me blankly once more. "I don't expect to see you in my office anytime soon" he motioned me to get out of his office. I completely made a fool of myself, I didn't look back.

My next class was Chemistry. I hated lab but Josh made them better, we partnered up in the class. However, I had no idea if he was coming today. I walked in and sat in my seat looking for a partner realizing everyone had one. "Hi Laur looking for someone?" I turned

"Josh?"
