When he came to sit with them, she didn't move away. She would reward his act of kindness by not making him look stupid for sitting with her. During the funeral, she started to cry again. Tim pulled her to him and hugged her to his side. She let him hold her as she cried.
After the funeral, Tim again opened the car door for her. Funerals exhausted her. He took them back to her house and Melissa left after they talked for a few minutes. Tim stayed behind.
"Do you need something, Tim?" Dominique asked, trying to remain civil since he had been there for her today.
"Yes, but I know I can't have it. But that's a matter for another time. Would you be okay if I came back in a little while to pick you up for work?"
"I don't need a ride to work, Tim. I'm fine to drive myself."
"Can't you just humor me for once?"
