"I must say that one of my biggest regrets is not seeing my daughter married, and being a mother. I hope that we can have more talks and you can tell me stories about your mother. But we will table that for a later date. Right now, I would like to discuss your engagement. Do you plan to marry before you got back to Athalon?" the Duchess asked.
Rose shifted. She was not sure if she should tell the Duchess that they were not engaged. Nathaniel had not actually asked her to marry him. She began to wring her hands as her nervousness about the engagement coming to light was not what she wanted as she did not want the Duchess to think she had lied to her. Nathaniel put his hand over hers.
"Yes, I would like for us to marry before I go to war with my father. I would like to know that Rose is safe and if anything should happen to me that she will have all that belongs to me."
