Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Longest week

Log that includes the week of September 10 to 16, 1945.

Our journey to the shores of the land of Gingetsu was too slow, this due to the recent loss of one of the horses assigned to us by Queen Margareth... As is known, a horse can travel 50 kilometers per hour at least It was estimated that we would reach our destination in a minimum of five days, but the unexpected attack we received ended up doubling our travel time and cutting our supplies in half.

The first thing we did in the early morning of September 10 was to go to the nearest village, which had a humble appearance, the structures were made with simple materials, some were built with old wood and others had the luxury of having strong pillars of a strong material such as concrete. For the most part, this village was populated by blacksmiths and messengers, we took advantage of the fact that there was an office to write and then send a letter to the queen where we would notify her of recent events that would cause our delay.

The next thing we had to do was get more supplies and food, since as I explained before, ours had been cut in half. Fortunately, the town where we made our stop was quite understanding and willing to provide us with provisions, I would almost say that we were lucky to meet them. They gave us provisions in exchange for a few minimal tasks such as moving wagons, taking care of their livestock and in a few cases, transporting construction materials. Apart from supplies, they showed us on a current map which paths were avoided due to the existence of wild creatures and where the villages were located that could help us in case we needed something else. We say goodbye politely and leave.

While traveling we visited approximately five other villages, we managed to collect information from the moment that left us somewhat overwhelmed, first of all there was a recent destruction of a village that was dedicated to housing adventurers, there were a total of fifty-five dead, fortunately there were no children there, they were only adults of which twenty were adventurers or knew how to fight ... unfortunately none survived except the one who gave his testimony, and the town was brutally devastated by what, as the subject describes it, was a high demon accompanied by a lady in a blue kimono and many creatures with crooked faces and macabre expressions ... no doubt they were the ones who had ambushed us days ago, but the survivor did not know in which direction they went after the massacre and recommended us to be aware of the news from each village.

During the week we try not to spend the night in the middle of the road to take certain precautions, if possible we stayed in the villages and sometimes in caves or hidden among trees and bushes. On those nights we used to take turns watching while everyone else slept, although sometimes we kept watch between two people to make the night less boring.

I have spoken mainly with Hekima about this combat master, Hisao Tenshi, from what he told me he is a complete specialist who bases his fighting techniques on the fighting style of judo and uses kendo to have a greater impact when attacking and not fight hand to hand if possible. Also, she convinced me to ask him to train me to control the silver moon crystals and fight demons.

I know the difference between a diary and log, however what I am about to comment on is something that I consider of some importance at least for my own reflection... I have been interacting with Hekima in a somewhat special way, generally we are the two that we take watch shifts at night but generally talk about issues to determine the things we have in common ... that's what, in my opinion, will allow Hekima to decide how she feels about me and vice versa; On the one hand, I need her to know the person I am to prevent her from creating an expectation that exceeds the person I really am. On the other hand, I need to see if I am the one who is being very cold to her without first being sure that I also feel something for her, I don't want to hurt her after all.

Likewise, we have used the time to carry out several strategies in case of being attacked again by the demon that calls itself Asmodeus, and his servant Shiro Hannya. First, Takamoto and I attack the servant, since we do not possess any special powers to defeat the demon (the last time Takamoto fought the demon he had to receive a resistance spell from Hekima), while Tokage and Hekima fight with magic and brute force. At first I was not sure about leaving Tokage as to me she still looks and acts like a little girl and gives me the feeling that she can go straight towards the enemy or be easily defeated, of course I had to listen to the pouts of Tokage before giving in to this proposal.

We continued with our journey and the weather seemed not to be in our favor because throughout the trip strong winds, incessant rains, suffocating heat and extreme cold also occurred that forced us to stop.

As we approach the shores of the land of Gingetsu the air felt cooler and the weather varied a bit. We found several villages around the area. As expected, these villages had fishing as their main economic activity, they had docks, they had special locations, there were equipment necessary to fish and after that there were boats. The sailors who were located there fulfilled different jobs so it was difficult to find someone who could take us to our destination. There were sailors who only transported products and lacked defenses on their ships, there were others designated for wars but these already had a specific course, the few sailors who transported travelers were scared by the recent news of the devil attacking villages and people, among all that collection of sailors, only one of them, who had a package to deliver over there, offered to take us, an old sailor without an eye whose name he decided not to tell us. He said he was not afraid and he did not mind dying helping someone... that reminded me of me... I thought, how is it that a man who has lived a long time decides to give everything up for some simple strangers like us? It was there that I noticed the hypocrisy in my words, a few days ago I said the same thing... giving your life for others can be the greatest act with which you can help someone, however there are also other ways to do it, something that I completely ignored when fighting...

The man's ship was cargo and was carrying food in boxes so we had to sleep near these once it got dark, the trip lasted two and a half days, so it could be said that we had two days of rest, of course, We help the old sailor to inspect the boat and if necessary prepare for strong winds. The nights were the quietest and allowed me to clear some ideas. That man is certainly like me... I think I saw myself reflected... Was I really doing the right thing by wanting to die like this? Tokage had said that it was stupid to think like that... I think I hardly realize it... On the night of September 16 I was thinking about that and Tokage noticed that I was not with them but looking at the sea...

Tokage: What are you doing at this hour?

Giorgio: You were right, it was stupid to think that way...

Tokage: Don't feel bad about it, I'm glad you finally see life with different eyes.

Giorgio: I am very grateful to you, I think I had no idea what to do with my life...

Tokage: Well when you put it that way I can't help it but feel a little blush... anyway, we're close to our destination, you need to rest...

I listened to what she said and we returned; From now on I had something clear, defeat Behemoth and live to tell about it... I know it sounds too hasty for me, however, I am more than convinced now of what I should do.

End of the log.
