"Occasionally the pain that crushes you, it leaves you incapable of everything. It leaves you broken in and out. The tears won't roll down, and the screams won't escape past your trembling lips. The hallucinations would come, but they'd not allow you to react and let the mist go. They'd force the mist to keep boiling you, staining you.
Hard times do last. Rough people don't last, always. Well, some might have a stagy life, but not all. Some really made façade to pain, unspoken, and dreadful. The agony is real, and so is the misery. "
EVA'S POV:
I feel somehow unsatisfied after stating some secrets of Sara to her daughter, so I decided to take a sip of red wine here in our dining room. The dining room was more of a mess hall. The tables allowed for small groups to sit together and comfort was an afterthought. On each chair was a thin square of foam, likely from old sleeping mats too thin to be of use. The walls were bare concrete and the windows were Perspex screwed on with chunky bolts. But for all the lack of luxury there was no shortage of ambiance; just being together was the treat.
It felt like my whole body had been beaten and every movement caused some muscle or bone to ache. I smirk as I truly realized one ugly truth, I'm getting old. As I reminisce about my unforgettable yet painful experience when I was young, I heard Saya's voice surprisingly.
"Go away! Get out!" Her screams echoed in the whole house. What was that? There was something in that shout, a pain behind it.
I immediately proceed to Saya's room and check what could be possibly happened. "Bloody hell, you gave me a fright!" I said with worried. She's alone lying on the floor. Trembling.
"Go away! Get out!" She keeps muttering. Her dark lashes brimmed heavy with tears; her hands clenched into shaking fists, in a desperate battle against the grief. I grab and hug her tightly. "It's alright, I'm here. Aunt Eva has arrived. Don't be scared. It's okay. It's going to be okay." I mumble.
She looks at me with curiosity. "Where is he? Where the hell he went?" She stutters as I wipe her tears.
"Saya, There's no one here beside us-"
"He's gone? I just mutter those words again, he disappeared again? If I say those words, he vanishes?" She said with eagerness.
Sara, are you seeing this?
Spirits made you lose your mind, the first time you've experienced it.
Your daughter is encountering it now. I hate this fragment. I feel relieved as I noticed that Saya didn't adapt your abilities however, it is just temporarily. It was a ticking time bomb. Her whole life was flashing in front of me.
I know this is the part of her life that you, as Saya's mother needed you the most. I look at Saya with pitiful eyes. "Darling, can you please enlighten me about what exactly happened here?"
"Aunt Eva" She has stopped from trembling. "A Grimreaper suddenly show up here in my room"
A Grimreaper? An angel of Death?
"But you don't have to worry anymore. He can't get me. He can't get closer to me. I know away. I found it away. Those words~"
"Darling, I am now relieved that you are fine. He didn't hurt you at all. Right?" I interrupt. A Grimreaper suddenly shows up in her room, why? I'm going nuts and starting to believe that someone was trying to kill Saya. What should I do?
"Yes, Auntie. He didn't manage to get close to me because~"
"Let's go abroad. I will purchase the flight tickets as early as I can tomorrow morning" I said nervously. My mind rejects thinking a better way how to resolve this. I don't want to witness another suffering from this. This is too much. Sara is enough. I can't face the consequences if I allow Saya to be like her mother.
"Auntie" She suddenly walks away from me. "The only concern I have left was my vision. Those death scenes that cascading if I accidentally touch someone. Maybe I can stop it by wearing gloves. Yoona has a lot of gloves. I asked her earlier to bring it with her when we meet in school. Fears? I will face it confidently. I will not cry anymore like this. I will fight back like what my mom did. Auntie, you told me a while ago how great my mom was. I want to be like her. I don't care if the Grimreaper earlier will show up again and threaten me again. I know already a way how to fight back. See? He's not here anymore. I manage to make him vanished' with a big smile on her face, Saya utters it confidently. She then hugs me tightly. "Aunt Eva, I'll be fine don't worry. I just need you and toby to be with me always when I need someone to hear me out. This too shall pass. I'll get used to it like what my Mom did. If she can, I can too right?"
A flashback suddenly occurs in my head.
The moment I saw Sara lying on the hospital bed, No oxygen, no heartbeat, no nothing, and the only background sound playing in my ears was a baby weeping. As I get closer to her dead body, I feel numbness in my whole body.
"At this time, I'm sorry to say, there is nothing more we can do" were the words of the doctor in charge.
My eyes burned with an ache to sob as my stomach rock back and forth on the harsh waves of fear. As I try to touch her beautiful face, I remember what she has written in her journal.
Dying, why we are taught to fear it, I ask myself why? Whether deaths is an everlasting abyss of darkness, a fiery pit, of a troubled castle, we fear it. Whether it comes as a relief or a surprise, we fear it but, why? – SARA MENESIS.
The flashback ended.
"Promise me one thing" I murmur suddenly. Then I look at her seriously before saying what's on my mind. Notice that Saya had a bubbly outlook. Her hair was coal-black and it plunged over her shoulders. She had a sculpted figure which was twine-thin. She had unblemished skin with a peaches and cream complexion. A pair of arched eyebrows looked down on sweeping eyelashes. Her delicate ears framed a button nose. It was a pleasure to see her flowing, moon shadow-black hair. She had a bouncy personality and a sugary voice, which I adored. Not content to be just another drone, she wore vibrant clothes.
"Don't die before I do"
SAYA'S POV:
"I know things will be different from today. But I'm hoping it will be just a one fine day until you are used to it." Aunt Eva said. She drove us to school today's Monday morning.
"Just pretend and pretend until you are used to it. Take care Saya don't cause any trouble please" Toby added.
I bid goodbye to the two. As I get closer to the school gate, seemingly adrenaline is activating my sympathetic nervous system, making my heart beat faster. I have walked these streets my whole School life this is the first time I feel so scared to enter it. Shall I proceed? I'm wearing now my long black silk gloves that Aunt Eva prepared last night. What if, these are not as effective as I thought?
Upon entering the hallway, someone accidentally bumped me. My senses are on high alert. Every color is brighter, every noise louder, every stranger a cause to make my heart beat more fiercely still. Thank God, Nothing weird happened. The horrible visions didn't occur.
"I'm Sorry" He utters then continue walking away from me.
"Good morning Saya! Long-time no see!!!!" Someone shouted. As I turn my head, it was the class president, Derrick. He was with Yoona and wait, Who was that?
Yoona runs towards me and immediately hugs me. "I miss you so much"
My heart is pounding in my chest but I try to ignore it and slow my breathing. The vision is now Starting.
YOONA TORRES
SEPTEMBER 11, 2031/2: 22 PM
She will kill herself by hanging.
"2031" I mumble. I silently grip the Padded Adjustable Straps of my Anello backpack, trying to calm myself, if they notice the hell is wrong with me it's all over.
"What?" luckily, Yoona didn't hear me. I smile towards her and take a step away from her. I hold her right hand, "I miss you more" then wink. Just as I begin to feel the sweat that I'm covered in, I decided to get closer to Derrick's direction. Thankfully, Yoona let go of my hand and quickly introduce the guy beside Derrick. He looks actually familiar but I can't remember.
"By the way, this new handsome guy beside Derrick is John Patrick May," Yoona said. "Hey, Newbie! This is Saya. My best friend and soon to be your seatmate. You will no longer feel loner since Saya is back to school" She's really naive as always.
"Hi Patrick, My name is Saya Menesis. Nice meeting you" I said while waving my right hand. I actually want to shake his hands but, Yoona's vision is enough. I can't take another one anymore.
"It's good to finally meet you" He replies.
"Alright, let's go now. The class will start in a minute" Derrick interrupts.
As we get closer to the classroom, Yoona asks Patrick with regard to the homework given by Mrs. Santos yesterday. As I continue hearing Patrick's voice, a flashback suddenly occurs in my mind. A scene before the subway explosion happened, where the horrible vision started.
So I enter the train then look for a space to stand or sit, wait for the train to starts moving.
The door is still open, many people continue entering the train that will immediately leave. I was standing in the middle part of the train when this guy, the same age as me bumped me accidentally.
Then a vision starts. An unexplainable vision occurred surprisingly.
Date, Time, and the moment as if you're in that specific area or place.
July 2, 2019, 7:30 am a man entered the subway, he has a small bomb on his body. He shouted that he will kill us once he pressed the button in his right hand.
"NO!" I shouted like a crazy woman.
"I said sorry. I apologized" the guy said while looking so overwhelming.
"Hey! Is it hurt? Did I hurt you? Why are you crying??" he continues, His going to wipe the tears in my right eye but,
"What time is it?" then I furiously grab his watch to check the time. 7:27 am. "3-Mins," I whispered.
"Hey! I'm asking~"
"I'm fine." interrupts him. "But we are all going to die. I need your help. You need to scream like a crazy man saying get off now the train!" while looking at him seriously.
"Hmm... Seriously?" he asks with pondering on his face. I just stare at him viciously.
"We are going to die! Get off the train now!" I scream at the top of my lungs. Then I ran like hell to the door, take my exit and look for the guard.
This new student. This "Patrick" Guy, He's the reason. He triggers these horrible abilities of mine. How? My mind stops thinking about reasonable things. I unknowingly remove my gloves and grab Patrick's arms.
EPILOGUE:
Shit happens surprisingly, isn't it?
- Nine mutters as He witnesses what Saya Did. He's been carefully stalking her since the morning before going to school. How? By flying of course.
