It's early January it's yet to snow but the air is super chilly. Even being a werewolf the winter wind is still quite bitter. I wrap my arms around myself to keep warm while I glance around the pack.
We aren't a super large pack but we are decent with around six-hundred to seven-hundred members. At a mere five-foot I look tiny compared to everyone. It's just a good job that I can use my smallness to my advantage.
We are all stand patiently as the Alpha King and Alpha Alec get the list of names ready to announce. I think about how amazing it would feel to be picked. 'A king won't want a weak wolf to help him' I tell myself while trying to stay positive.
After all my years of secret training with Alpha Alec I know I would be able to put up a good fight for sure and I'm also really good at hunting.
The king and our Alpha turn back to us with a long list in hand. I try to think of all the options for his choices, glancing round I pick out many. Most of the warrior wolfs for sure but also most wolves between eighteen and thirty without mates will go if chosen. That would definitely mean I couldn't get picked as I'm not eighteen for another week.
The king clears his throat loudly, chatter instantly disperses. "The list has been chosen and I hope as many of you as possible will join."
He begins reading names and my heart races, as I see he gets closer to the end of the list, my heart drops. Even though I knew I'd never get picked, I'd hoped.
"Atticus Brown, Farral Light, Emeric Dowd, Emmett Smith and finally Brooklyn Winters." As he read the last name, I truly was devastated.
Then I saw my Alpha passing the king a small piece of paper. The Alpha Kings hand shot up in the air, "Hang on, we have one more... Ella Sterling."
