Chapter 59 - 6 Chapter

I walked through the wide corridor down the middle of the ship. It was actually plenty big to be comfortable in both width and height, more than enough room for me to turn around in.

It was a couple of days since I was presented with my new ship. Ni'Korish has since returned to the planet. She did have a star cluster to rule, after all.

Stopping at an intersection I turned to the servant drone floating along to my right, carrying a mix of fruit on it's top. "Left?" I asked it.

It took a second before it responded, "Affirmative, Khan."

Nodding I turned to the left down the corridor towards the port engine room. My crew had taken the still unnamed YT-1200 up two days ago to help inspect the new craft. It is still docked to the top of the converted frigate.

I stopped by the vac secure door to the engine room and pressed the button to open it before I walked inside, looking around. Nobody in sight.

That's strange, according to my drone their communicators was here.

"Hello?" I asked and there was a clang from inside the housing of the hyperdrive before Sarah Honor, my chief engineer popped her head out.

"Oh! Hello, Captain. Can I help you with something?" she asked with a smile, her hair covered with some kind of... hat. She was covered with dirt, wearing some kind of orange coveralls.

I tilted my head but decided not to ask about the new attire. "How do you find the ship? You have been barely been seen since you arrived."

The human grinned happily. "This place is brilliant! The Hapans completely rebuilt her using their own technology. It's familiar, but different. There is so much to examine and learn!"

Well, it look like my engineer might be over her depression.

I slowly nodded. "Just make sure everything works. I want the ship completely gone over before we leave... for both faults and sabotage."

She frowned and climbed out of the hyperdrive. "Sabotage? I thought you and the Queen were friendly. I mean, she did give you this?" she said as she dropped back down onto her feet.

Well, I wouldn't have put it like that...

"It is not the Queen I worry about, it is her opponents. I was not joking when I said this place is worse than Nar Shaddaa." I said as I ruffled my feathers, laying down to bring myself to a more equal level with my engineer.

Sarah frowned and then nodded. "I'll set the security droids on a full sweep. That should at least cover the open spaces."

"We should do a thorough search of everything after we undock from the station," somebody said and I looked up as Padme Honor, Sarah's younger sister climbed down from a hole in the ceiling next to the engine. "Better do it when nobody can sneak something new in that we miss." she finished as she jumped the last meter onto the floor.

"I agree," I said. "How is the ship living up to it's hype?" I then asked as I shifted my wings a bit.

Both humans grinned and Padme nodded. "So far, everything have worked perfectly and her specifications are better than when we salvaged her. They put in a 1.5 rated hyperdrive and the thrusters are more powerful."

I nodded. "What about the cargo shuttles?" I then asked. Most of the room in the two hangars was taken up by a pair of heavy cargo shuttles. The ship was not meant to land. It could, but it needed a specialized landing platform due to the hammerhead configuration.

Instead it was meant to unload in orbit into a pair of cargo shuttles which take the cargo to the surface.

The older sister shrugged. "I only taken a cursory look so far, I thought it was best to check out the ship first, but from what I seen... well, they look good." she said as Padme pulled out her PAD.

"According to the specifications they are as impressive as the rest of the ship. From what we have seen so far... if they match up like the ship, they will be brilliant. Still, I rather have a look myself first, Captain." Padme said.

Sarah nodded. "Yeah, same here. Oh, would you ask Jack to pull away from the main computer for a couple of minutes, Captain? I need him to check the software of the engine controls but he keep saying he is busy."

I nodded. "I'm heading there next. The computer need to be as thoroughly searched as the rest of the ship," I said before a thought hit me and I stood up, looking between the sisters.

"When was the last time you two ate?" I asked. I didn't remember actually seeing either of them since we arrived.

They looked at each other before Sarah shrugged. "I don't know, when did we get here?"

I sighed softly. I should have expected this kind of thing with my chief engineer, but Padme used to be more sensible.

"I'll ask Icri to bring something down," I said before I turned to leave, but not before grabbing a pair of fruits from the droid to tossing them to the two engineers.

Icri didn't really have anything to do right now anyway, she usually handled passengers, so I might as well put her to work babysitting the rest of the crew to make sure that they did such things as 'eat' and 'sleep'.

"Oh! Captain!" Tel'te exclaimed as she almost ran into me as she rounded the corner. "Sorry, didnt see you there."

"It is quite alright, Miss Visa," I answered. "You look like you were in a hurry."

"I'm looking for my girlfriend, she disappeared into the ship when we docked two days ago and I have barely seen her since," she said and then sighed as she shook her head. "She get so involved when there is something new to tinker with."

I nodded "Indeed. You can find her in the port engine room, I just found her and her sister there. I'm off to find Icri to get her to make sure they eat."

Tel'te stared up at me "They haven't even eaten!?" she asked.

I shook my head. "No. They forgot the time again," I answered with a sigh, causing the twi'lek to growl and start down the corridor again.

"Damn it! I talked to her about this!"

I raised my head feathers in amusement before continuing my search for Icri. I should likely also discuss the matter with Commander Swan. While it is good that my crew work hard, I don't want it to go out over their health.

Still, turning the ship from warship to cargo ship did cut the crew need hard. For one thing there was no need for combat pilots and damage control crews. Nor any internal security and soldiers.

During normal operations my current crew is sufficient, we will just need to add some droids or drones to assist them.

He also needs a name. A ship needs a name. I am unsure about reusing the previous one. It was the name of a warship. He was no longer a warrior.
