Chapter 63 - 10 Chapter

Despite Yoda's invitation, I declined the use of my old room at the temple and instead I returned to the cargo shuttle and took it up to the ship.

The rest of the week of vacation was spent working. Mostly on recreating my armor though, but I also ordered a new weapon from the merchant I bought my last laser canon from.

There was also some time spent on paperwork and generally dealing with my business. Always more paperwork.

Not that it used actual paper, but anyways.

I titled my head and peered at my creation, poking the control mechanism for the future helmet optics with my tools to do a small adjustment. Another small component done, about two thousand to go.

While I could get the parts off the shelf, I needed to modify pretty much every single one of them. All in all, the armor would cost about half as much a brand new light freighter.

Glancing at the time, I put my tools down and left my quarters. I prefer to be on the bridge when we leave hyperspace if at all possible.

Many freighter captains leave the bridge unmanned while in hyperspace because...well, nothing happens. But as we had already noticed on the Clear Skies, somebody ready to act if something happens can save the ship.

Continuing down the corridor I enjoyed how much room was in the area. I could even turn around easily in this, something that was possible if a bit tricky in the Skies. But this ship did have the room to spare.

As I entered the bridge I moved over to curl around the central marble pillar. There were two pillars in the ship, one on the bridge and one in my quarters, and both had the same functionality as they had on my last ship, but the outer shell was made from hand-chiseled marble.

Very comfortable.

"Report." I said as I relaxed around the pillar, digging my claws into the pattern.

Icri yawned and looked up from her book "Nothing to report. All systems nominal, five minutes until hyper exit." Everyone on my crew had at least a basic ability to fly, something I also started to demand while on the Skies. In an emergency, anyone on the crew should be able to fly the ship well enough to set her down on the ground.

Icri was not the best pilot, but she was good enough to take shifts on the bridge, especially now when we no longer took passengers. She talked to me before we even left Coruscuant and she is now apprenticed to Mekak as a cargo master.

Not her favorite task... even if everyone helps move cargo at the end of each trip... but it did let her remain on board and be useful. We don't take passengers on this ship.

I nodded and idly brought up the latest report from the engine room on the replacement Crows. My engineers had spent most of their shifts rebuilding the flock. While most of the parts could be taken 'off the shelf', several needed to be modified or outright built from scratch.

Still, with the good workshops and machinery on board, they can output a Crow a day now when they have the process down. Three are finished so far, and they are being stored in one of the hangars to be moved into their launch hatches after we drop out of hyper.

"Captain." Jack greeted said as he walked onto the bridge and dropped into his chair by the communication station, flicking a couple of switches before he was engrossed into his computer systems again.

There was a couple of minutes before my second in Command walked inside to sit down in the navigator's seat next to Icri.

I let out a small breath and shook my head as I flicked through the Crow VI programming, trying to find some way to improve the already impressive program. I have no idea who those two think they are fooling, everyone knew they have been together since before the Skies went down.

But if they want to keep things 'hidden', I'm more than happy to play along as long as it doesn't risk my ship or crew morale.

"Good morning everyone." Tel'te said as she walked inside with a smile. Icri got out of the pilot's seat to let the blue-skinned twi'lek take her station.

"You are awfully cheery today." Icri complained, the normally cheerful Mon Calamari complained as she stretched "I need some sleep."

"Go rest, Icri." I said as I closed down the hologram "We will drop out of hyper three hours from Kinyen and even then I doubt we get to unload immediately. You should have time to catch some sleep."

She nodded "Thanks Captain." and quickly left the bridge.

I glanced after the amphibian for a second before returning my attention to the rest of the bridge as we got closer to exiting hyperspace.

Icri was a people person, she actually liked interacting with passengers and now when we didn't have any... well, it wasn't ideal for her.

I had some ideas for that, but that would have to wait until we are done with this.

"Exiting hyperspace... Now." Tel'te said as she pulled the lever back, dropping us back into Normal space, the system's primary burning brightly straight ahead "Sensors confirm we are exactly where we are meant to be."

The twi'lek then half-turned as she grinned back at us "First productive journey in the new ship...success!"

Jack snorted and started to work the com system to contact Kinyen control as he snorted "I just wish we hauled something other than shit."

Swan rolled her eyes as she answered "It's industrially processed fertilizer, not shit. Kinyen is an agriworld Coruscuant imports lots of food from, they need to send byproducts back."

My com officer didn't respond, already talking to the Kinyen traffic controller.

Closing my eyes I sighed, relaxing around my pillar, feeling content once more.

Everything was back to where it should be.
