Chapter 9 - Traveling

"Are you ready to go? What happened?" Derek raised his voice as Shawn came to my side.

"Jack what happened?" Shawn asked. I ignored everything. I wanted to go somewhere else. Away from all of the conflict and problems. I thought of mountains, streams, thunderstorms, and gloomy weather. I thought of that place and I was there. Away from everything. Streams flowed across the land. The scent of rain and tall pine trees caught my attention. Clouds covered the tall mountains. Cool rain fell on my face when I looked up. A cool breeze blew through my hair. I felt alive. I never knew nature could be this beautiful. I walked down the side of the stream. My tears dried with the help of the breeze. I was at peace.

"Tamara," a voice came from behind me. I sensed him a few minutes ago. I could tell he was following me for a while.

"What do you want?" I said.

"I want you to come back and live with me Shawn and Derek in Kansas," I turned around to face him.

"Do you see what I am? Back at the store you looked at me like I was a monster," I said raising my voice. "I don't want to hurt you or your family. I feel like I don't deserve to have these powers."

"Don't say that. We are here for a reason and later down the road we find out what that particular reason is," he was in front of me now. I gave him a hug. "Please just stay with us for as long as you like and you can go and come back anytime."

"Thanks," we were back at the hotel. Everything was calm and settled down.

"Shawn and Derek are in their room next door so you can change into your clothes if you want to. Hurry because we have to go in a little bit," he said sitting down on his bed. I grabbed a blue flannel shirt black jeans and a grey tank top. I walked into the bathroom and changed. I came out and saw a duffle bag on my bed. My clothes were inside. "I went and got you a bag so you can carry your stuff when we are ready to go."

"Thanks," we waited for about 20 minutes before leaving. The soft purr of the Impala and the classic rock matched perfectly when we left Utah. The beautiful sights and perfect weather matched everything. Jack and I sat in the backseat talking while Derek drove and Shawn was on his computer. The sights in Colorado were magnificent. We stopped a couple of times to look at the scenery and for breaks. I wish I had my phone with me so I could save them. The bright side is that I can visit these places anytime I want. By then we were in Kansas. The lands were barren and plain. There was nothing much to see. We stopped in a town and stayed in a hotel room. The orange sun finally set after a long day of traveling. I got a room with Jack again. I stood out on the balcony watching the sun lay for rest. I loved nature. I heard the door open behind me. I knew it was Jack. He came to my side and leaned on the railing.

"It's beautiful isn't it," I said embracing the moment. "Wish it could last forever," the sun was going over the mountain covering the city in a cool blanket. I looked down to see Derek getting his stuff out of the black Impala. I started to yawn and my eyes got heavier. I walked back inside. I realized Jack was still outside. I walked to the door and leaned against the doorframe. "Are you coming in?"

"I think I'll just stay outside for a little while," he said staring at the wide landscape.

"Okay I'm going to go to sleep. I'm tired from all of this traveling today," My eyes got heavier and I felt like I was going to fall asleep standing.

"Good night Tamara," I walked to my bed and covered myself in the sheets. They were cool and slowly got warmer. The warmth of the sheets embraced me as I went into a deep sleep.
