Chapter 10 - The Birthday Gift

"Jack please let me sleep," I said rolling over and facing the wall.

"I have something to show you," he turned on the lamp. The bright light blinded me and soon enough I was awake. I pulled off the sheets and sat on the side of the bed, rubbing my eyes.

"I'm awake. What did you want to show me?" he didn't say anything. He smiled and he pulled me toward the door out to the balcony. It was cold outside, I liked it. The cool feeling of metal and concrete on my skin felt great. The black starry sky slowly disappeared over the light purple blanket that covered it. The sky slowly transitioned to an array of colors. Light blue, bright orange and a light yellow covered the sky. It was beautiful. I leaned my head on Jack's broad shoulder. "You know what I realized Jack?"

"What?" he placed his head on mine.

"The sun loves the moon so much he dies everyday so the moon can breathe," the sun peeked over the horizon. The sight was breathtaking.

"Tamara, I have a gift for you," I turned to face him and saw that his hands were behind his back. "Close your eyes," I did what he said. He pulled my hands in front of me and placed an object in my hands. "You can open them now," I opened them and saw it wrapped in a blue wrapping paper. I ripped the paper off, revealing a photo album. I opened the book and saw the beautiful landscapes and scenery I saw when we were driving yesterday.

"Jack," there were no words to describe what he did for me.

"Happy birthday Tamara," he placed a delicate kiss on my forehead.

"After all these years with no birthday parties, gifts, or even a simple "Happy Birthday" from Asmodeus I always thought it was just another day, until now," tears filled my eyes as I flipped through the pages. He cared about me more than Asmodeus ever had. I kissed him. Immediately I regretted it and broke it.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to--" he pulled my waist and kissed me this time it was longer. It seemed like decades went by instead of seconds. The sun warmed the atmosphere that surrounded us. I didn't feel pain, hurt, or grief. I felt safe. I broke the kiss. "We should get back inside."

"Yeah, let's go," we held hands as we walked back inside to our room. I was glad to have him. The beautiful sunrise and the birthday gift was everything I needed. When we walked back inside I grabbed a fresh pair of clothes and got in the shower. Everything was normal. I walked out and he fixed his bed. I did the same. I looked throughout the book and at the end there was a message written in cursive.

Dear Tamara,

I hope all your wildest dreams come true this year. Earth is a magnificent place to be on. Beauty surrounds this place in many ways, and you're one of them that roams this place. I loved you from the day I met you, and I hope you do too. Happy Birthday Tamara

Love, Jack. :)
