Something you probably heard many times, from the end of a chapter and rarely at the beginning of it.
The plot twists and cliffhangers in all stories, including this one.
But now you don't have to fret because this is the continuing and the second part of my WITCH & WOLF knowledge, let's begin, shall we?
Before the attack and before the confusion, they were friends, acquaintances, and even shared meals and deals. Helping each other since the day they met and being used to each other's company. Some would even say they were meant for each other but the people who said that didn't know the truth, didn't know the claws that awaited for the witch in the wolf's company. The blood it craved from her and the meal that taunted him in her company.
No, matter how kind she was or who she would help, the wolf still had a destiny, a fate that was unavoidable and a hunger that only the witch could satisfy. Cruel but true their story was always met with tragedy no matter how many times the wolf replayed it.
Even if he ran away he would still be drawn back and the sight of her ginger hair would always remind him of his place, her ocean eyes deeper than the forest. Bringing him back to his place of serendipity and her chestnut skin, soft amongst his, gentle despite his true intentions.
She deserved so much better yet still got him.
Interesting how fate works in odd ways, like this one, without the wolf I would have never been and without the sorrow, she could have never grown to be the most feared woman in the forest. But even still, I wonder what she could have been without me, who she could have helped without the wolf... And most importantly how much happier she would have been, the smile on her face would have been so bright that it could have blinded a normal human and helped the most pitiful of souls.
She would have been better used to the world and a blessing instead of a curse, but I guess we can't rewind time and warn her, huh? Because, even with a warning she still would have helped the wolf.
Pitful and sad, I bet you're glad it wasn't you but her, and did I ever tell you the wounds were slashes? Deep scarred flesh with dried blood filling the cracks, and for the wolf, it was more or less similar just less gorey. Sorry for the details...
"Victoria." "Yes?" "Is something on your mind?" I nod, "Yeah, but nothing too serious, just an old story in mind." "Oh, what is it about?" "Tradgey and Broken Trust." "Interesting." I sigh, "Charles, are you still working at this hour?" "Oh, not anymore, I was going to head out soon but then I heard something and wanted to see what it was." "Oh, so you saw her too?" "Lady. Acres, yeah, and then I saw you, which surprised me. But then again I'm sure you did this before."
He must be referencing the last time I snuck out, but I decided not to comment directly. "I was curious as well, I had wanted a breath of fresh air and didn't realize she was out, too. She had spotted me but didn't say anything, didn't even send anyone to shoe me away. This was odd, but honestly, this whole day has been a big dream to me, almost like I've entered a paradoxical world."
"Really? Strange, does it feel like that now even?" "Most definitely, especially with you here." I laugh a bit, gazing back to the staircase, trying to see if I can spot anything.
Nothing. Just pitch black, I guess the main light source went with my mother.
"You looking for something?" Charles questioned, and I frowned, turning back to him. "Not anymore it seems, hopefully, I'll find something soon." I lean against the stair railing and start to tap my finger, "You think I can make it in time?" "For what?"
I sigh again, "To see what my mother is up to, I hope she won't scold me too much but I can't help but be curious. I mean wouldn't you be?" "I didn't see much, plus I prefer to let my parents do what they need to do. It's none of my business really and usually, I'm preoccupied with sewing so..." He trailed off and then waved his hands in the air, "But if you want to investigate, just be careful okay? Sometimes, we want to follow the rabbit, but the rabbit doesn't always lead to gold."
I raise my brow and stand up straight, "Is that a metaphor for budding out of things?" "Probably." He shrugs, "I just heard it somewhere and thought I'd share.." "Okay, thanks." I ball my hands together and bring them to my chin, "If I'm not back by morning, then I'm probably going to be in my room all day." "Why?"
"Because, then that means I did something wrong, but I'll be okay, just check on me after, okay?" He nods and sticks out his pinkie, "I promise." I take a deep breath and match my finger with his, "It's a promise then, hopefully I'll see you tomorrow." "You will see me tomorrow, Victoria because I know everything is going to be okay. I can just feel it."
I give Charles a soft smile but inside I know I want to tear up because the truth is he doesn't know if I'm going to be okay. I don't even know if I'm going to be okay. I just hope that I'm not digging myself an early regret.
"Thank you, Charles." I push myself further down the steps and wave, "I, thank you for the courage." "Anytime I-" He leans over to me and pulls something out of his pocket, "Flashlight. It seems less bright down there, this will protect you." I take it and thank him once again, "Not sure, why you have a random flashlight in your pocket but thank you."
"Hey, you never know, plus I just figured anyway so." He scratches his head, "But, anyway yeah be safe, Victoria." "I will."
I hit the side of the flashlight and switch the button on, a semi-bright light guides my way and then my journey continues.
