Chapter 4 - "The Bar"

Destiny's POV:

It was late Saturday morning around eleven a.m. Kayden, Corey, Isaac, Nathan, Roy, and I were lounging peacefully on the beautiful California Coronado beach. We chatted idly about old times and all the fun we'd had over the years.

"Maybe we should all go out tonight? Who knows when we will have the time to get together again after we start working." Corey exclaimed.

The rest of us all spoke up in unison with an enthusiastic "Yeah!"

"But where should we go?" Kayden asked.

"How about that nice bar we used to go perform at?" Suggested Isaac.

"Ahh, now that brings up memories. When did we start our band? Was it in middle school?" I asked thinking back into the past.

"Yeah. And once we got into high school we begged the bar owner to let us perform there on Saturday nights. I remember we would spend all our after school time practicing throughout the week." Isaac replied.

"Ha-ha, It helped that your dad knew the bar owner though Isaac!" Nathan replied with a broad smile.

"It was still a surprise though, that after all these years we met up at the academy and picked it all back up again like we didn't miss a beat." Roy replied with a smile.

"It was fun for all of us so it made it easy." Kayden replied.

"Was fun? It still is!" I said enthusiastically.

We all laughed as familiar smiles crept across our faces.

It was a little after one p.m. when we all headed back to the house to get ready for our night out. I was standing alone in my room looking into my closet. What to wear, what to wear? I spotted a black dress hanging in the back. It had clear plastic around it and didn't seem like it had ever been worn. Oh, that's right! I ordered it but never got to wear it. I pulled it from its plastic. It was a strapless solid black cocktail dress that stopped just above my knees. It looked as if it was form fitting so I was skeptical. I was curvy but not overweight. Some people would call me fit but I don't agree. I was no athlete though I did exercise early in the mornings when I was in the academy. I put the dress on my bed and quickly headed to the bathroom.

After showering I returned to my room. I went into my closet to retrieve a black pair of heels and the black hand bag I had purchased to go with the dress. I was used to wearing heels so much that they never really bothered my feet. I wore heels all through high school. All the students at the high school had to wear school uniforms. The boys wore black slacks with a white button down long sleeve shirt and a red vest while the girls wore black knee length skirts with white button down long sleeve shirts. Heels looked better than tennis shoes with the uniform.

I think back to those days. I remember when I spilled milk on my skirt at breakfast. Isaac had an extra pair of slacks so he offered them to me. We had to take them to the home economics room so we could hem the legs up and take the waist in. The teachers weren't happy about my change in uniform, and I looked a fright in pants that were too big with heels peeking out from the bottom. Isaac went and explained what had happened and managed to keep me out of trouble.

I quickly bring myself back from the past and put on my dress. It fit perfectly. I stepped back from my vanity mirror and was surprised at how good it looked on me. Not bad, I said aloud to myself as I sat down in front of the large mirror. Let's see, make-up, make-up, what color should I wear? I apply my makeup with precision. I think I'll go with a smoke gray for my eyes. Once my makeup is finished I remove the towel from my damp hair.

I think I'll straighten my hair today, I said to myself as I got my straightener from its bag. I immediately started on my hair making sure it was straightened to a smooth silky shine. Once I was finished I grabbed the things I would need for the evening and tossed them in my bag, threw it on my shoulder, and put on my heels. It was five p.m. when we all left for the bar. We lived in the middle of town, everything was within walking distance and the bar was only a few blocks away.

As we entered the bar a familiar chime rang out over our heads. The bar owner, Sam, greeted us with a familiar smile.

"Hey guys! Long time no see. What brings you guys in tonight?" Sam asked.

"Oh, you know, we thought we'd stop by for old times' sake." Corey replied.

Sam's face lit up like a firework. I looked around the familiar bar and saw a bunch of the regulars smiling fondly at us.

"So does that mean we're going to get a special performance tonight as well? All your stuff is still set up on the stage over there." Sam exclaimed happily.

We all smiled.

"Yeah we'll give you a show tonight, but first let us celebrate a bit." Isaac replied

"Yes of course! Your usual table is open, go ahead and have a seat." Sam said with a smile on his face.

We made our way to our usual spot and sat down. The table was large and always had two empty seats. We would always joke and say we needed to add two more friends to our group to fill the empty seats…, we never really did expand our group though.
