Chapter 5 - "Meeting the Group"

Chief's POV:

It was Saturday and Kyle had somehow managed to talk me into leaving the office for dinner. He always had a naturally bubbly personality that would suck you in and was especially flirty with ladies.

"I don't see the point in leaving the office to eat dinner Kyle." I said in protest as we continued down the street.

"Come on Chief, it's bad to stay cooped up in that office all day. You need to get out more. Maybe you should find a cute girlfriend! Having someone cute to spend your time with would make you want to leave the office on days like today." He exclaimed excitedly with a large grin on his face.

He was completely ignoring me…, he was off in his own little fantasy land again. In this line of work love often gets pushed onto the back burner. My job keeps me plenty busy so I don't have time for love. I was in my late twenties and single. It's not like there is a shortage of women or anything, there were plenty around, but all of them are only drawn to me because of my position at work and I knew I didn't want a woman like that. My thoughts drifted as Kyle chatted happily to himself. Destiny's face floated across my mind and I was once again turning over those same questions that were bothering me in my mind. I wonder where she is today…

Kyle finally brought us to a stop in front of a bar. We were immediately greeted when we walked in with friendly hellos. The owner told us to have a seat wherever we liked so I scanned the bar. There were quite a few people here; this must be a popular spot. I looked out over the crowd of people and spotted someone I didn't expect to see. Kyle spoke up all of a sudden.

"Oh, there's the new recruit from my department!" He said as he pointed to a guy sitting at the table with Destiny.

"Who's that hottie sitting with them I wonder?" Kyle asked.

Before I could answer he was waving his hand in the air.

"Hey Roy!" He shouted.

Everyone at Destiny's table turned to look at us. Her eyes went wide for a minute as she watched us approach the table.

"Good evening Chief." She softly spoke to me with a smile.

"Hey no fair Chief! You know her?" Kyle exclaimed.

"Hi, I'm Destiny Silvers, I'm the Chiefs new partner." She said proudly.

"Oh-ho, aren't you just a cutie!" Kyle replied as he reached his hand out to her chin.

A flashback of the look she had given me came rushing back. I started to reach out and stop him but before I could one of the guys quickly stood up and grabbed his hand shaking it firmly.

"H-hi, I'm Isaac Hall, I'm a new recruit at the office as well. This is Corey Rainer, Nathan Adams, Kayden Ingram, and apparently you already know Roy." Isaac spoke firmly.

Everyone else stood and greeted us with their introductions and firm handshakes. I saw a look of relief on Destiny's face. Isaac, Corey, and Roy were of medium build and just a few inches shorter than my-self. Isaac had black hair with hazel eyes while Corey and Roy had brown hair and dark brown eyes. Nathan and Kayden had smaller builds and were just a hair shorter than the others. Nathan had blonde hair with blue eyes and Kayden had blonde hair with green eyes. There was something different about this Kayden guy though. I couldn't put my finger on it but he was very feminine looking in my opinion.

After the introductions were complete Destiny offered up the two empty seats to Kyle and me. I took the seat next to Destiny.

"Aw man, why do you get to sit next to Destiny?" Kyle complained.

Destiny looked a little shocked at the comment but quickly composed herself.

"I'm the least likely of us to make her feel uncomfortable, that's why." I said coldly.

Kyle pouted to his-self. Destiny spoke up addressing the group she was with.

"So guys, what are we gonna do for tonight's show? What songs are we gonna sing?" She asked.

"What show are you talking about?" Kyle asked curiously.

"We used to come here every Saturday night and perform on stage. We would sing and play songs that we had practiced after school the week before. We decided to enjoy tonight and do another show here at the bar." Kayden explained.

"Can you sing any song?" Kyle asked.

"Well, I can't, they sing, not me." Kayden replied as he pointed to Destiny and the four guys.

"There's a book with a list of songs we can sing beside the stage. We just do it for fun so it's not professional grade or anything." Destiny replied while trying to hide her embarrassment.

"So if I pick a song from that book you guys can sing it?" Kyle asked.

"Yes." Destiny replied.

Kyle's face lit up like a light bulb as he bounced to the stage to get the list of songs.
