Ken POV
For a whole week we have been tailing them like crazy. I know it was my idea, but a part of me wanted to enjoy this new place as well. I know, it was not a vacation, but we can take a break right?
I hoped since there are four of us and three of them, at least one of us could take a break once every day. But Chloe said she won't sit around, and Margaret and Oliver followed the same suit, so I agreed reluctantly as well, not to come off as a jerk.
Today Margaret decided to follow Timothy, and Chloe wanted to go see Momo again. So Oliver and I decided to take fake-Virginia today.
At the office Virginia was stopped by that lady from the other day for some urgent business. She was pissed as usual, but it was different than Chloe's acting that day. She wasn't that much rude, but rather her premise was much more intimidating.
"Everyone, I have an announcement to make." That boss from that other day showed up out of nowhere. Everytime I was here he was already present. I thought as a boss he would arrive late or something, but I never saw him enter the building. Either he was way too punctual, or he lived here.
"Today we have the board meeting at 1:00 am. I know it's at short notice but due to some delivery error, we have to update on our status from our side. Project managers, make sure you have the report ready by then."
Most of them said "Yes sir" in a chorus, it was like being back at the school again. I ended up laughing at that. Suddenly like a reflex that boss looked at me. I paused for a moment as I felt myself becoming a subject of his intense stare. He was not supposed to be able to see me, I was sure enough with my apparition about that.
He slowly came towards me, until he was standing face to face with me. He gave an intense stare before he finally spoke up. "It's been a week since I have arrived. I have released many notices, why is not the board updated?" He asked still looking at me. What? I turned around to see the notice board behind me and sighed with relief. So that was what it was. Oliver was pursing his lips to suppress his laughter.
"Sir, the peon does it. He is on a break due a minor surgery."
"And whose responsibility is it to make sure the work is done properly, if he takes a break, Miss Wells?" He almost snapped at her. She simply kept quiet and stared at the floor. After a monent of silence he left and everyone went to their respective places, and resumed their work.
We followed the fake Virginia to her office as usual but it was getting too boring for me. Everytime we came here Oliver would spent most of his time stuck to her like glue and stare at her screen for any tiny clue that could pop up. Last time I was here I almost fell asleep out of boredom, and I am a ghost.
I left the room to check around. It was a work place, no matter what I looked at it was boring as hell. I caught Miss Wells from earlier talking with another employee. "That arrogant jerk! What if the noticed board is not changed? It's not like we read it anyways, the notices are always mailed to us."
"I know right! He is just abusing his power, just because he is the son of the president, he thinks he can get away with anything." Her friend supported her.
I kind of felt bad for him. I mean, he seemed like he cared about his job a lot. It's not his fault for being related to the president.
I went to his office and stared at him doing his job. I had no idea what he was doing, but he was deeply immersed in his Laptop. He was handsome in general, but with his brooding expression he looked very frustrated. I wonder if he has any friends or even a girlfriend with that demeanour.
"I pity you" I said softly.
Suddenly he slammed his bench really hard which had me startled. If I were alive I would have died of heart attack right this moment. He glared at me for a moment before finally saying. "What the hell is your problem?" he spat out.
I frowned and looked behind to see if anyone was there or not. I was surprised to find no one there. Who was this guy talking to?
"You, stopping looking here and there." He spoke again.
"Me?" I asked anyways.
"Yes" Wait! So he could see me. But how? I was still invisible to humans, then how could he see me? Was he…not a human? "From the very beginning I have seen you lurking around here time to time? What do want?" He asked me directly, clearly frustrated at me.
"Nothing?" I sort of answered, still unsure of what was happening.
"Then are you attached to this building or a person here?" He asked me.
"Neither." I shrugged.
"Then why the hell are you here? You are a ghost, move on! Don't come here and bother me. I got work to do" He sighed heavily. I was surprised he could tell, seemed like he knew lot more than I was expecting. I manifested my apparition to have a proper interaction. His co-workers already hated him, if they see him talking to no one they will think he is a lunatic as well.
"What if I don't? It's not like you can cancel my pay, I don't work for you." I folded my hands and smirked. He snorted at that.
"Also I am already dead, so you can't kill me either." I challenged him further.
He came close to me and stretched his hand out. He put it at my neck as he dug out my charm from underneath my sweater. I panicked but maintained my posture nonetheless. He looked at me as if he was challenging me. "You think you are the first ghost I have met?" he lowered his voice and smirked. "Be careful of actions."
