Chapter 115 - 114 The Wave

Me and John were not far from each other as we sat atop our wall that had everyone working on the reinforcements and making sure our artillery and large ballistic weapons were ready and hidden from view as to not become an immediate target.

Sandbags and sharpened sapling poles are stacked around them, to hold them in place. The few soldiers that are still running around in our no mans land, attempting to rescue others in the pits are easily taken out by me and John. Every fifteen minutes we have a someone from the intelligence and surveillance tent, sending us a message with updates on the movement of the wave.

As time continued on and the wave got closer, it had slowed down in the mountain terrain, but it still pushed forward. We finally told the men to stop reinforcing the main wall and make sure they got some rest. The divisions that Thietian promised us had shown up and were placed along side us.

More would be coming later, but I was keeping my eyes peeled to witness what Bavarthos had in store for the wave of the Erl's forces. He had told us what to expect and that no one would be harmed except for the Erl's soldiers.

I was still worried though. I saw something moving off in the distance and used my visor to zoom in on it.

"Birds?" I mumble as I see hundreds of birds flying off. Then I notice the animals near the jungle floor. They are all escaping the wave of soldiers making their way through their territory.

Quickly, I send a message to the coms, that will be shared to everyone here.

*ATTN: ALL ALLIED FORCES*

DO NOT KILL WILDLIFE, DO NOT KILL WILDLIFE.

JUST MOVE OUT OF THE WAY IF IT'S PREDATORY. THEY ARE JUST TRYING TO ESCAPE TO SAFETY.

MAJOR GENERAL SIN.

Within minutes the fastest of the land animals are making their way up and over our barricade. Everyone next to the wall moves themself down behind the ridge or to the side in groups. A mixture of animals from small rodents to monkeys are coming up over first. Little babies clutch onto their mother monkeys, eyes wide and screeching when they almost fall off. Only for their mother to push them higher up on their backs as they run across the ground in a hopping three legged gait.

A few startled cries came out from the troops when the pumas, ocelots and jaguars started coming. Most just spared a glance if at all our way, very few stopped once they saw all of us and growled at us before taking off quickly.

"Major General Sin, Sir. Come look!" One of the soldiers was looking over the side directly below.

Glancing over I saw that some animals were not able to make it over. Anteaters and others were having a hard time making it up so I made a quick decision. I focused and snapped a portion of the wall forward five feet so they could funnel their way through there.

I snapped the wall back into place when it seemed all that were going to make it through did. It seemed just in time too. It sounded like bees at first, the trees and foliage starting to shake farther away.

"READY YOURSELVES MEN!" John yells out over our coms as we take our positions with our rifles or on the turrets.

The ground vibrates softly as the brush is moved aside and we start to see hundreds, then thousands of different Fae soldiers marching towards us. The ones in front who see the holes start to walk around, but so many are not paying attention that we see plenty dropping or being pushed in when they catch themselves.

Watching a few of the traps that hadn't been set off yet was satisfying. The tree nets whipping up with a cluster of soldiers screaming in them as they bounce about and dangle. The holes that suddenly opened up into deep pits when enough soldiers had walked onto them.

However, the handful that the traps took out, there was still plenty more to replace them.

"Dear lord give me strength." I hear some of my soldiers say prayers as this mass of bodies begins to make their way closer to us.

"FIRE!" I yell signalling my gunner to start firing into the sea of soldiers.

Seconds later, all that can be heard are the steady 'tck-tch-tck" of the rapid fire from the gunners up on the turrets. I had grabbed a few of the rocket launchers earlier and I handed one off to my left and one to my right.

"SPREAD OUT!" I bellowed to them as we knelt down to be loaded.

"LOAD!" One of the privates load a bazooka into the barrel.

"CLEAR!" He yelled giving me a double tap on the right elbow to know he was clear.

"FIRE!" I pulled the trigger and watched as it flew into the masses and became a giant fireball throwing bits and pieces and bodies from the blast area. Two other areas soon followed suit.

"RELOAD!"

We fired a total of twelve rounds into the oncoming forces, the gunners were tearing through bodies like they were busting open pinatas. Our airstrikes were already coming in and dropping napalm bombs on the larger mass of soldiers farther back that we couldn't see yet.

They were now close enough that they were firing right back at us, the ones who found cover either behind mounds of their dead comrades or a small hill or gulley. As much as we kept tearing into them, they just kept coming. The cries of my own soldiers who had been hit could be heard around me as medics came and grabbed them.

The shouts, the cries, the pleas of pain, anger and horror surrounded me along with the steady 'pop' of our rifles aiming and firing before finding the next nameless face to target.

"Where the fuck is Bavarthos?" I grind out through my teeth as I remove my now empty clip and replace it with a new one.

"SIN! WATCH OUT!" Akiyama fires as I duck, hitting one of the Erl's soldiers who had made it climbing up the poles sticking out of the barricades.

I nod to her in thanks and stand putting my barrel over the side and begin firing on the ones trying to follow the others idea. I've gone through ten of my clips already and they just won't stop coming.

"FUCK YOU!" I scream as I use the butt of my rifle to bash a soldiers face, making him fall to the ground. I pop in another clip as the bazookas are brought back out and others start firing into the mob of soldiers screaming in fury to break through our line.

My whole body is numb, not paying attention on anything except who's going to step up to be shot behind the next one. When my legs suddenly buckle and I have to clutch the back part of a pole, I realize we're having an earthquake.

When I hear a deafening roar from some mighty beast, I rise to my feet quickly and watch in horror.

Bavarthos, he had sent his 'pets' who varied in size. He had said his small ones were the size of a truck, the largest were the size of a coal haul truck. I was shocked and stunned watching these beasts with long tusks like elephants, others with mace like tails and spiked backs with fur on them, tearing through the Erl's forces like they were playing with bowling pins.

A voice snaps me back from my petrified state.

"As much as I appreciate you admiring my pets, Sin, dear. The enemy is still knocking on your door."

My head snaps to see Bavarthos dressed in our military gear and firing at soldiers still trying to find a weak spot in our wall.

I grab one of my grenades off my vest and pull the pin throwing it hard as far as I could. Bavarthos grabs my shoulder and pushes us both down as the grenade goes off sending shrapnel and dirt into the air.

We pop back up and continue firing on the soldiers climbing the wall.

My com goes off.

*MG SIN THEY'VE BROKEN THROUGH THE WALL AT THE RIO CHICO Y."

Instantly I call over my com for the magic users not on the wall, to start snapping reinforcements to the Chico rivers Y point and snap myself there.

Immediately, I let my rifle swing and pull my katana, snapping my self to the hole. I'm slicing through necks, blood spraying my face as I use my magic to push the soldiers back that hadn't made it through the wall yet.

I snap the wall parts back into place and bellow, "GET SOME MEN ON THAT SPOT NOW!"

I throw a grenade over the wall before running to the Fae soldiers fighting ours. My Katana met little resistance from these soldiers as it sliced through sides and flesh like butter. The scream of one soldier as I cut his hand off, made my ears want to bleed.

I quickly sliced his throat making his scream stop as he gurgled up blood. The reinforcements were showing up for this area as the soldier dropped to the ground. I snapped a large amount of earth up next to the spot they had been able to push through, making it impossible for them to try to make it through it again.

I nearly fainted from the excess amount of power I used to move so much mass in such a short time.

I plopped onto the bloody ground and took a small blue bottle out and tossed it back like a shot.

Blood and gore suddenly rained on me as a body hit the ground next to me. They were missing their face but it wasn't one of ours. My energy was returning when a hand is offered for me to stand up.

"Thanks." I grunt out as I stand up.

"Bavarthos?!" I see his face and he just smiles.

"What the hell are you doing in one of our uniforms?" Confused I stare at him.

"We are allies, yes? I thought it was a good idea to look like one so not to get confused and possibly shot at."

"Fair enough." I notice an Erl soldier picking himself up off the ground aiming his weapon at us.

"Move!" I push him out of the way just as the soldier shoots.

"UGH!" Blinding pain resonates from my gut and I almost drop.

'Damn it, I hate getting shot!'

I grit my teeth and let the tide of rage flow over me as I walk over to him with intent.

He takes a few more shots at me, which my armor catches most of them, before my shadow falls over him.

I stab my blade straight through his gut, twist and pull out of his side. He spits blood all over me as I watch his haunting, red-rimmed eyes.

Pain, fear, sadness, and rage fly through those eyes as the light fades. He drops and doesn't move again.
