Chapter 3 - Happy Face

Zedrick's POV

"DON'T think I'm unaware of your little adventure yesterday, Zed," My father said as soon as he sat on his usual chair. He was the only one who called me Zed. Short for Zedrick. But of course, he calls me by my real name in formal occasions. "Oh really? Where did you go?" My mother asked before taking a sip on her juice.

"Just somewhere," I answered as I play with my breakfast, finding it unappetizing. I reached for a bread, deciding it was enough.

"By somewhere he means outside of the castle," My older brother, Fredrick, said as I roll my eyes. How he knew, I'll never know. When I looked up, I saw my mother staring at me with narrowed eyes.

"You're not forbidden from going out, Zed, but you still need to inform us," My father said as he ate and I nodded. "I know, I'm sorry," was all I can say.

"Well? Tell me about it," My father asked and I eagerly did. My father is not what most people assume. He would always be present in breakfast and he would always ask about my day. He loves talking and I was more than happy to reply. He maybe gone most of the time but times like this made up for it.

"Well, there's nothing much to say," I said. I was clearly lying. But I can't say I was robbed and blackmailed to climb a tree now, could I? If I did then I can kiss my freedom goodbye. "I met a boy. We have the same age. That's it," I said.

"A boy?" My mother asked and I nodded.

"Yes. He thought me how to climb a tree," I answered. Our kingdom wasn't the stereotypical kingdom that was mostly read in books or like other kingdoms. Sure, we have strict laws and rules but not to the point where I was followed by guards wherever I go. My father liked it that way. To be open and approachable by his people. It made me feel that I wasn't some Royal sometimes and it was nice.

It was truly peaceful in Majest Kingdom.

"Glad that you overcame your fear of heights," My brother said with a smirk and I scowled. "I am not afraid of heights," I said firmly and everyone at the table chuckled.

Alright, maybe I am quite afraid.

"Anyway, now that we're talking about it, can I go out after I finish at the academy?" I asked and my father nodded.

"Sure, son. But don't wander too far. You know my rules," He answered and I replied with a 'yes'. Although I'm allowed to go out of the premises of the castle, I still can't go somepoint in the kingdom.

The town, more specifically. Why? I'll never know. Maybe because it's dangerous, considering I'm a royal and all that. Or my father was just protective. But as far as I'm concerned, I wasn't out in the public. Most people wouldn't know who I am and that was proven when that boy-- Mikel-- and I met.

I'd be lying if it didn't bother me. But my curiosity was answered when my mother told me I was abducted when I was a baby. They thought that it was better if I was not shown in public after that.

But it wall all change tomorrow. My brother's coronation day. The day my father will give the throne to my strict but dork of a twenty-five year old brother and the day he will be announced as king. It will also be the day I will be introduced for the first time.

Excitement was an understatement for what I'm feeling.

Breakfast ended when a maid handed a telephone to my father. His face was in a scowl when he ended the call and quickly stood up, not bothering to say anything to us. We were used to it anyway. He was the king. Of course he was always busy. My brother followed after and I left when I finished my bread, kissing my mother on the cheek goodbye.

When I got to the academy, scholars from different places and families was busy with what they're tasked to do. For me, I did art. Painting was a passion of mine. Art and swordsmanship was natural for me and I gladly pursued it with all my heart, making my father proud.

After some hours, I looked outside of the window and saw the sun was about to set. Same time, same place tomorrow, okay? I remembered Mikel said as his voice ring inside my head. I bit my lips and when I looked back at the painting I made, I sighed, questioning myself why I made a painting of a sky full of stars with a crescent moon and two bright stars beside it.

It really did look like a happy face.
