Next to the barber shop there is a pawn shop and a tow truck company. They have many cars parked out front with for sale signs on the windshields. I imagine those are the cars from people who never came to claim their vehicles. "We need wheels." Lexa says. I can feel the guys standing in front of the barber shop smoking stare all over my body as I move around looking at all the cars they have. Typical men, I shake my head.
A guy comes out of the tow truck building once they notice me checking out the cars, he walks with swag in his steps as he makes his way over towards me. Looking over towards the guys at the corner, as if he won an unspoken bet. I sigh, do these guys ever look at themselves in the mirror while doing that stupid walk? I scratch my head in annoyance, "Hello, my name is Mark." He says smiling, extending his hand to shake mine politely and evidently trying to flirt.
I roll my eyes and shake his extended hand. "Can I help you with anything?" he asks I tilt my head looking at him in exasperation, I know he knows I do need his help if I want a car. "That's a stupid question." I say as I walk around. His smile drops and he looks down at his feet in embarrassment. He silently follows me until I come to a beat-up double cabin truck. Its grey color looks matte from the age, it has many dents and huge bald tires. I need to get new tires, these won't last.
On the inside it looks neat, clean and well kept. Whoever had this truck kept it up to date and clean. "I want this one." I say and wait for him to get the keys. I keep inspecting it while waiting, I turn towards him folding my arms in front of my chest and tap my foot on the ground impatiently, I don't have time to lose and I don't see him move. "Don't you want something smaller?" he asks instead trying to lead me to a black mini cooper they have.
I scrunch up my nose in distaste, "I don't want that thing. I want the truck, are you going to get me the keys or do I have to ask for someone else to come help me?" I ask angrily. He lifts his hands up in surrender and walks back inside to get the keys for me. He hands them to me, "Get in." I say and immediately turn the truck on. It purred to life quickly, I peel off for a test drive and floor it. I giggle at the guy as he grabs ahold of the door handle in fear.
The purrs from the engine makes me feel giddy like a schoolgirl. This would be my first car, now I just need to take my license out, but I'll work that out later, I need to get to where Lexa wants me to go. I head back to the tow truck building and park right where it was. "We're not far from where we need to go, pay and let's leave." She says urging me to hurry. I turn back to the guy, "I want it." I say following him inside to fill all the paperwork and pay.
"Can I have your number?" Mark asks when I finish paying and turn to leave. "No." I answer simply, I have to much on my plate right now and I don't need any more drama. I open the truck and throw my bag in the back seat and put my backpack on the seat next to me. I crank the truck on and drive. "You need to give me directions." I say to Lexa as I peel off not knowing where to go. She pushes to the front and takes control without pushing me to the back.
She drives us deeper into the woods, I look in the rearview mirror to see if any cars where following us and notice my eyes are glowing. "Lexa our eyes are glowing, won't people notice?" I ask her a little panicked. She giggles, "That will always happen when I'm co-piloting or in full control. There is nothing either of us can do about that but grab some very dark shades." She says. I nod and pay attention to the scenery instead to learn the way.
Even though I am completely lost, she drives as if she has been here before, she pulls up to a big gate and gets off the truck. We walk up to a keypad on the wall hidden behind a large tree, one that if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't have known otherwise. She punches in a code and the gates open. We quickly walk back to the truck and drive in; we wait until the gate closes and continue. I see shadows in the trees while we drive forward making me panic. How can anything keep up with our truck? Half an hour to forty minutes later I can see we're coming up to a huge mansion.
My heart hits in overdrive as soon I can see the mansion clearly. There are men surrounding the mansion with rifles pointed towards the truck as we come to a complete stop in front. These men quickly surround the truck, "What the heck is this? You brought me here to get killed?!" I scream at Lexa in panic. Lexa rolls her eyes in annoyance and lifts our hands up in surrender, the door is opened by one of the guys and he roughly pulls us out. He pulls my hands behind my back roughly and ties them together. The men surrounding the mansion put their rifles down and the ones that surrounded the truck make a circle around us. One grabs my elbow and pulls me towards the front doors.
