Chapter 8 - Ch. 8 Sunlight

Riley' POV

I was awake but so comfortable that I didn't move, I could feel Jacob's booted foot wedged into my back. You might think that would be uncomfortable but it was very reassuring to know he was there and sleeping peacefully and in a safe place. Well we were as safe at we were going to get at the moment. We slept all through the night, I woke up once and I checked on Jacob then I looked at the window. The camp was dark and quiet so I went back to sleep and slept like a rock. Now sunlight was coming through the cracks in the window coverings. My eyes were still closed but I could feel the sunlight on my face, it had to be mid August by now and the sun was still coming up early and there was always a cool breeze. I stretched my arms above my head enjoying this tiny bit of normalcy before I opened my eyes. I flinched at soon as they opened, someone's face was less than five inches from my own. Not panicking though I took a deep breath, he didn't move or open his eyes. Just Levi I thought to myself as I quietly sat up. I wanted to check out the camp this morning. I turned back to peek at Levi, staring I realized he had way to much hair to be Levi. Fuck, it was Aiden breathing into my mouth all night, I scrambled back and out of the truck. Quietly closing the back and peering back in, both Aiden and Jacob were still asleep. How had I not noticed that Aiden and Levi were twins, I registered that they looked like brothers the girl from last night had called hem brothers but I had been trying to keep my head down.

They looked exactly alike besides Aidens shaggy hair and scar over his eye.

I turned and took a few steps around the truck and once again I just stopped at the edge of camp. It was different from last night, full of life. It was still quiet you didn't hear a buzz of chatter like you used to from big groups of people. They all just worked silently, it was like watching a silent play. Sarah was again at the small fire, people were coming up to get there breakfast and wash last nights bowls. I could smell cinnamon in the air. Straight across the camp from where I was there was a RV and outside the RV were plants, they were all planted in big pots and it was like they had been brought out to get some sun. A woman was watering some jalapeños and checking the soil in the pots. Two men and another woman were sitting among the plants eating their breakfast. There was a small table set up in front of the black Jeep parked next two the RV, a man was cleaning guns and sharpening knives. A woman in front of a little red Honda was cleaning clothes and shoes. She had two medium sized tubs and a makeshift washboard. There was rope strung from the Honda to another truck, a woman was hanging clothes on the line. Others were just enjoying their food.

There was a folding chair under the awning connected to the truck, If you could even call it a awning it was so small it barely covered the chair. Standing under the awning I leaned against the truck just waiting for what was to come.

I didn't have to wait to long, I looked over to see Levi heading my way. He was staring intently at me. I couldn't help but stare back, I had so many questions and so many things I just wanted to say. He walked up and leaned against the truck beside me. Did you sleep well? He asked. Yea I did thanks, we're you out on patrol all night? No, he looked down at me with a strange look on his face. You slept through my shift and Aidens we only do four hours so people are alert. I came and slept a while after my shift, I thought you might be fake sleeping again, your so quiet when you sleep. Oh, I said. I was fake sleeping in the truck I said with a smile, so I was really tired and it's pretty comfortable back there. He grinned back at me. I stood up intending to stretch out a little but Levi hijacked my movement and swung me right into his arms. He was still grinning at me, all his smiles and grins were full of mischief and it didn't bode well for me. I tried backing out of his arms but he held on tighter. No! He said. I could tell he was serious so I just accepted it and looked up at him. Nothing bad is happening to you is it? No, it's not. I said. I lied though something bad was happening to me. My heart was starting to race as I looked up at him and my body was getting warm. When he started moving towards me I wanted him to kiss me, he moved past my mouth though. He kissed the side of my neck and went a little farther back and nibbled on my ear and continued kissing my neck. My eyes fluttered, my stomach was in knots and I knew if he didn't stop my legs would go week. He would probably hold me up, his hands were already on my lower back holding me close to him. I flinched as I heard the back of the truck closing. Levi didn't flinch at all, he stopped what he was doing and released me from his arms. I stepped back and went back to leaning on the truck beside him. Jacob came around and sat down in the open folding chair. I smiled at him. Good Morning! Morning, he said back. He leaned back in the chair and raised his feet in the air, seeing how long he could hold them up. Can I get some breakfast mom.
