Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The search for the mad monk

Grandma recalled that the crazy Taoist priest had once mentioned a place —— Wulipu in Anxian County, then quickly asked Grandpa to ride the bicycle to find him. Grandpa was anxious and kept asking people all the way. It has been dark when he arrived at the place., after several inquiries, my grandpa finally got some answers——an older man pointed out to my grandfather that there was a small remote village located the west of Wulipu, where have to pass through a forest of chestnut trees and the cemetery, then walk for another 5 miles. It was said that there was a Taoist priest whose name was not known.

Grandpa thanked the elderly, then rode a bicycle through moonlight where he passed through the chestnut forest. He didn't know whether it was a firefly or a ghostly green patch, which scared him so much that he rode his bike even faster. Suddenly he fell. However, he didn't have time to check the wound, rushed forward immediately. By the time grandpa arrived at the village, he was sweating profusely. He sat at the entrance of the community and examined the wound; the bare bones can be seen. Sadly, he still could not find the Taoist priest. Grandpa cares about his little daughter (Xiu) a lot; he felt anxious and helpless, then squatted on the roadside crying.

While my grandfather was crying, a young man came out of a broken cottage at the entrance of the village. He had thick eyebrows, big eyes, a high nose, and dressed in a long white robe. The man, who looked like a fairy-tale figure went to ask grandpa what was wrong.

Grandpa was a hothead; he poured out the story to a stranger.

After listening to Grandpa's story, the young man said, "don't worry brother, just follow me into the house, tell me the details slowly, and I will help clean and put a bandage on your wound," and then he led Grandpa into the house. After grandpa went in, he found in this humble hut; the wall hung with the Taoist Sanqing: Yuqing Yuanshi Tianzun, Shangqing Lingbao Tianzun, Taiqing Moral Tianzun.

The human-made a cup of tea for my grandfather and motioned him to sit down. There was a significant break open in grandfather's trouser, the man then cut open the trouser where the cloth was thoroughly soaked with blood. He went inside and got some herbs to cover the wound first, and then he wrapped it up with a white cloth. Fortunately, the bleeding was temporarily stopped, but the pain was still excruciating.

After bandaging, he got up and made another cup of tea for Grandpa. The cup of tea looked ordinary. However, it was strange that grandpa gradually calmed down, and the wound became less painful after drinking the tea. Then he could calmly tell the story and ask the man if he knew there was an old Taoist priest who lived here.

Unexpectedly, the young man said: "if I am right, you are looking for my master. Unfortunately, he passed away three years ago. Since the master told you before to look for him, so if you trust me, I will go with you to see what I can do, do you with me?"

Hearing that the master passed away, grandpa had no other ideas and decided to let the young man have a try. So He nodded his head immediately as he was in fear that the man would not be found later.

The man asked about little aunt's birth horoscope, then took out his compass started to calculate, he said to grandfather, "unless a miracle happens, your little daughter will not survive the fifteenth of this month. My master warned you nine years ago, but instead of believing it, you... "

Grandpa immediately fell to his knees for the man and burst into tears. "None of us thought that the crazy man, oh no, what the Taoist priest said was true, what…what can we do now? "

Everything may be doomed; the man said to himself while picking grandfather up, "forget it, forget it, please wait a moment. "

After a while, the man came out of the next room, dressed in a gold-and-silver-thread robe, wearing a Bagua Cap, white Bagua shoes and carrying a Bagua bag, and said to grandfather, "please take me to your house as soon as possible, if you are fine we can go now."

Grandpa saw the man dressed as a Taoist priest, knowing that he had met someone who knew about Tao, then he quickly got up. They went back to grandma's house that night. However, this journey later led to leg injury -- since then, grandpa walked with a slight limp.

In fact, grandpa is usually a good labour force in the village, but because of his leg injury, and the situation is very urgent, grandpa can only insist on himself walk. This young man was called Wenbin Zha, who later built a close relationship with our family. Zha had a twin son-and-daughter that year, living a poor life in the countryside, working at sunrise and sleeping at sunset.

When they arrived at my grandmother's house, my grandfather explained to my grandmother what had happened and took Zha to my little aunt's room. It was strange that this time my little uncle's black dog was especially kind when saw Zha, the dog kindly held his legs. Usually, this dog treats other strangers fiercely; it is said that even my father was nearly bitten by it.

Go back to the story, Wenbin Zha touched the head of the little black dog, smiled and went into the room, and asked others to stay outside. Fifteen minutes later, Zha went out, looked grave.

The grandmother is very nervous to ask: " Master, how is the situation with my daughter? "

Wenbin Zha did not say anything, only asked grandma to place a table outside the door. Grandma immediately placed a small table outside the door without asking the reason.

Then Zha asked grandmother to prepare a bowl of rice, which is to fill the bowl with rice, then poured out rice after firmly pressed, so that the rice takes the shape of a container. Then the rice is put upside down in the bowl, where the bowl shape faces up, also, need to make sure the rice is half-cooked.

After preparation, a bowl of rice was placed in the middle. Zha took out three sticks of incense, a stack of paper, a box of vermilion, and a writing brush from the Qiankun bag. He also asked Grandpa to lift little aunt's bed directly opposite the room door and asked grandpa to tie up my little aunt with hemp rope.

Moreover, since Wenbin(Zha)went in, little aunt kept moving around. Even as reliable as grandpa could barely hold her down, it's like she became as strong as an ox suddenly after the instruction by Zha, grandpa trapped little aunt with a hemp rope. Later, I learned that this hemp rope is not only to keep my little aunt from moving but also to lock the soul, which means to trap my little aunt's soul, not letting her soul out of her body.

After trapping up little aunt, the Taoist priest took something that looked like a black stone and stuffed it into my little aunt's mouth. He said it was to prevent her from biting her tongue and killing herself later. After all, this was done, the Taoist Priest respectfully lit the three incense sticks, it was longer, thicker, and yellower in colour than the usual incense we had seen, which might be the traditional incense. Strangely enough, there was no wind in the room, but three strands of smoke from the burning incense merged to one strand and slowly drifted into my little aunt's room...

Then Wenbin took out a square ink-stone, my grandfather is a lover of calligraphy, so he can tell ink-stone was not a normal one. That was a square white copper ink box ink-stone, shaped into Bagua. Different from the other one, the middle part of this ink-stone was red, where others are black.

Taoist priest looked at the little uncle, touched his head, said to him with a smile: "little boy, I would need a bowl of your urine. "

My grandmother quickly took another big bowl and led my little uncle out. After a while, urine was brought in. The Taoist poured a little of urine and the box of vermilion into the ink-stone, after a good mix, then he picked up a brush and started to draw a symbol on the paper. Where all strokes are connected without the pen leaving the paper. Totally, 8 symbols were drawn, which were placed at eight particular positions in the room.

Astonishingly, when the last symbol was finished, the little aunt on the bed actually let out a frightening growl, but her mouth was stuffed with something, so it was hard to hear what it was. Can only see that her eyes were widely opened and she shook her head uneasily, looked like she is either in fear or get angry.

Wenbin didn't even look at the struggling aunt, but quickly walked pass, foot "seven star step", and drawn a symbol with every step. As his finger Wiggled, the symbol paper started to burn up, although nobody knows how, and then his mouth began to read a mantra, the little aunt on the bed began to struggle more and more. The little girl of only nine years old nearly to break off from the thick, finger-like hemp rope, even the bed board was rattling. Her face turned from white to red, kept making noises in her mouth~ ~ hoo ~ ~, but cannot hear clearly what was said.

After burning a total of forty-nine symbols, little aunt seems to have been exhausted, leaving only with loud gasps. Grandma and other family members also get scared, did not know what to do. Wenbin's face became more and more dignified, gradually began to sweat, when the last symbol was burned out, he was sweating like rain.

The Taoist priest sat down on the ground, drank a cup of tea provided by the grandmother. He looked very tired. After sitting for about three minutes, he stood up and looked exhausted. He waved to grandfather, said in a low voice," no one should stay in this room, please go out, I have something to say..."
