It was that time of year again. The time where older children dread but younger children begin to excitedly prepare. It was the beginning of the school year. Azalea was getting ready with her mother who came back just for this special occasion.
Since Azalea is now five years old it was time for her to start school. Azalea was nervous but excited at the same time. She was going to a place she's never been before and would meet new people her age. She just couldn't wait.
Sitting in the corner of the room was Aspen. She had also gotten up early with her older sister but she didn't understand what was going on at all. She heard her mother saying something about her sister going to a place called 'school' but she didn't understand why Azalea needed to go. Why couldn't she have stayed and play with her?
At that moment Aspens mind began to faintly recall Elijah telling her something about a place called 'school' that he was going to attend next year. She recalled how he said it was a place where there were lots of kids and you could have lots of fun with them.
Aspen now wanted to go to this place called 'school' just like her sister no matter what it took.
After getting dressed and eating Natalie took Azalea and Aspen to the school unable to leave Aspen behind because of all the fuss she was making about wanting to go too.
As they reached the school gate Azalea bowed at the teacher as a sign of respect to them. The teacher nodded back in acknowledgment.
Passing the gate there was a short road leading some buildings. On their left was a big playing field and to their right was a playground. The school was split off into sections one area were for young kids around five or six years. Another section was for the older children who were older than five or six. The younger kids were split off from the older as so the older kids don't disturb the younger children during their nap.
The section for the younger children was close to the playground while the others were near the end of the playground. In the middle of those two buildings were a canteen and a small shop.
Azalea had finally reached the building kids her age were supposed to be and it was finally time for Aspen and her mother to leave. Azalea began to go talk to other kids while Natalie still holding Aspen began walking back the path she came from with another parent. Natalie and the other parent stopped walking and began to have a conversation and Natalie put Aspen who began fidgeting in her arms down as she and the other parent exchanged numbers.
Aspen without thinking twice bit her mother and ran to the building she saw Azalea was in. Aspen at this point was in tears as she ran up to her sister begging to let her stay as well. Azalea was in shock at the scene that unfolded before her she couldn't do anything but stand at the entrance of the building. Her classmates stood around her as they watched Aspen cry and beg someone to let her stay. The teachers didn't know what to do. It was their first time encountering a scene like this.
Natalie quickly grabbed Aspen after she caught up with Aspen and apologized to the teachers. She carried Aspen, who was still hysterically crying, back home.
For the rest of the day Aspen stayed in the bedroom pouting and waiting for Azalea to come back home from school.
