Back on Earth:
Riots kept raging on in the streets as all human morals were tossed away. Governments collapsed and death became a norm to see everyday. Revolutions began all around the world.
Driven by humans with intense, negative emotions and the pain from losing their loved ones, the revolutions each had one common goal: Seeking the head of Elaine, the creator of the miracle drug.
It seemed like that was the only thing anyone really cared about.
Unsurprisingly enough, this wasn't the first time Elaine's life was in mortal danger. Over the past 2 years she had almost been exposed to all kinds of life-threatening situations. From kidnappings to assassination attempts.
Some wanted to know the secret to the miracle drug and others, such as medicinal businesses, wanted to assassinate her to eliminate the competition as only she knew howw to create it.
The dark cloud was tested and deemed to be safe. Due to my influence, anyone else who tried to replicate the drug ended up killing their test subjects. Since the miracle drug slowly became a cure all medicine and no one else could replicate it, other medicinal businesses were going bankrupt, and eventually resorted to assassination.
Unfortunately, they knew little about just how heavily guarded Elaine was. I anticipated for her life to be in danger after creating the miracle drug, so I never left her alone. If she wasn't with me, she was with the tailed Lilith, and if she wasn't with her, then she was with Ace, who was with her most of the time.
A few of the 12 Liberators would always tail her even when she was with me, making her completely oblivious to her life being in danger. Every time she went out, her life was at risk, but I made sure she never knew. She managed to live a life that was as ordinary as it could get.
This time was different though. I was no longer on Earth to ensure her safety and it wasn't just a few organizations that wanted her dead, but nearly the entire world. Luckily, she had been in hiding as the whole world continued to search for her. Most wanted her dead and others wanted her to reverse the effects of the miracle drug and find a cure.
Unfortunately, nobody had seen any traces of Elaine anywhere around the world. This made the people furious and caused them to act out even more…until one fateful day. On that day, everyone in the world shifted their focus to one man.
The headlines of every newspaper have been publishing the same topic. News stations have been talking about one thing and one thing only. The reason why the world had gone to shit.
"Hello, this is Miranda Kenny reporting a recent update from Worldwide News on today's leading topic, The Miracle Drug.
Just as the miracle drug had taken a turn for the worst in modern medicine, an anonymous individual published a lengthy article detailing just how the miracle drug came to kill almost all those who took it.
This article had been written by none other than Grayson Wiles himself, author to the book, The Flaws In Humanity. He is also known as the successful millionaire husband to Elaine, the woman who created the miracle drug. This article explained in detail why and how half the human race had to die, allegedly." The news reporter said, keeping her composure.
Almost everyone in the world had their eyes glued either on a screen or on a newspaper.
"In this article, we see a detailed explanation on how this same Grayson had sabotaged the miracle drug and added an untraceable, slow killing poison within the ingredients. His motives are linked to his earlier book, The Flaws In Humanity, which emphasizes on how humanity is flawed.
However, this article also stated how humanity needed to see how flawed they are. This is now tested through a worldwide crisis where nearly 80% of the populous is at risk. And I quote, "This is humanity's true nature."
A cure has been mentioned multiple times within the article, but it was not for te miracle drug…and I quote, "Humans are selfish beings who will continue to take from the weak in the pursuit of
Elaine has been stated to have been oblivious to the whole scheme and is labeled as a victim to the matter. However, the authenticity of this is yet to be proven and difficult to believe due to the husband-and-wife relationship between the two. You hear me you son of a bitch. We're coming for you. My son will be aveng-." The news reporter added before being cut off.
As people from across the world were receiving this news, they all had their own take away from it.
'Where the fuck is this Grayson?'
'Is there really a cure?'
'Didn't we all prove his point?'
'Is Elaine really innocent?'
Different questions arose from the people's minds as they slowly found out the reason to nearly half the world's population death. However, one thought remained a constant…
'Grayson has to pay!'
With this thought fueling them, humanity had a common goal. The riots greatly decreased as people tried their best to come together and find Grayson. After reading the article, most of the thieves, murderers, rapists, etc. felt exposed as the article predicted all the events that had been happening.
Each of them had already created, in their heads, an excuse for themselves for doing what they did. However, this one article called them out on their own bullshit.
"Uh…What happened? Where am I?" A young and beautiful woman said to herself as she opened her eyes after a deep sleep. Her dirty blond hair completely covered her face when she sat up at the side of her bed.
She placed her right hand at the back of her head as she lamented the pain. She then soon recalled the events that led to here. This woman was none other than Elaine.
"Ace!" She said out loud as she struggled to get up. She then picked up a glass of water that was placed next to her and drank it. Feeling a little better after drinking the water, she finally stepped out of her room. She then found Ace, alongside the 12, sitting around the living room. Their eyes were glued to the TV as they watched the news.
"What are you all watching?" Elaine asked curiously. "Oh ma'am, you are awake!" Ace said to her then quickly got up. "Please forgive me I-," Ace tried to say but got cut off midway. "No need for that. I was in a bad place and really needed to rest. You only did what you had to do." Elaine said to him.
"So, what got you guys so fixed on the TV?" Elaine asked again. "Ma'am, you need to see this." Ace said to Elaine then pulled out a chair for her. "Alright?" Elaine said anxiously. She then took her seat and began to watch.
The news was in a constant loop all day, making sure that everyone got the chance to hear about it. As she watched the news, tears began rolling down her cheeks and a wave of mixed emotions came crushing down on her.
"No…he took the blame!" Elaine said out loud. "Elaine…" Ace said to her. "He only did this to save me!" Elaine shouted out loud with tears still rolling down from her eyes.
"El-...Ma'am, you need to understand. Grayson is truly capable of doing this. Anyone who has read his book would know. The way his mind works is just…" Ace began to say, but was at a loss for words.
"I know… I have always known. My brother killed himself after reading that book. I was married to the man. I just thought…he really didn't care what happens to me…it was much easier letting go knowing he doesn't care, but now…" Elaine began to say whilst wiping away her tears.
"Ma'am, he killed billions of people. He doesn't care about anyone but himself." One of the 12 said to her. "Right now, I do not know whether to be happy he took the blame or sad that he has to deal with the burden all alone. You're right, he may have killed billions, but I know this…I- I still love him. He gave me a reason to keep living." Elaine said with a stutter in her voice.
"This changes nothing! If he is capable of killing billions then you will be wise not to shift your loyalties. Anyone that has any second guesses should leave now, but just know that you all are my family and leaving now will only lead me right back to that rooftop." She added with a serious tone.
She then got up, wiping away her tears, then walked toward the exit. "Where are you going?" Ace asked her. "Out, I need some fresh air." She answered continuing to walk. Ace then attempted to follow her. "Please, I want to be alone right now." She said stopping him.
"But ma'am, it still isn't safe for you out there." Ace said to her. "Don't worry, I'm not going far. I'll still be within the compound." She said in a depressing as she walked out the door. Ace was a little hesitant at first, but decided to let her leave. "Please be safe." He said sincerely in a voice only he could hear.
Unbeknownst to anyone, a slim shadow closely followed Elaine outside. She shadowed her closely behind all the way to a nearby tree where Elaine sat down and began to cry bitterly. She buried her head between her legs and cried even louder than before.
"So fragile." The shadow said to herself as she stood above her on a tree branch. This shadow was none other than Axelia, the first and only female shadow I had ever created.
'Master.' Axelia called to me telepathically. 'Hmm, Axelia? What's wrong?' I replied to her. 'I do not understand why I have to protect this human. This is far below my capabilities. My power continues to rise alongside yours. Your happiness; your battle intent. All I can do is vaguely feel what I could be experiencing beside you. I believe I can be of much more use to you by your side.' Axelia expressed her concern.
'You may be right, but right now you are exactly where I need you to be. I created you to protect that woman because she is important to me. Do not belittle your purpose! You yearn for battle, I understand; your time will come.' I said to her.
'Master…I will protect her with my life.' She said to me sincerely.
