Chapter 7 - Surprise Test! - Part 2

Claire had two choices: either she could study all by herself and save herself, or she could somehow get the whole class to revise in these fifteen minutes and maybe save most of them from Miss Soma's outburst.

The second option was a particularly tall order, but Claire figured she had some small chance of getting it done, so she chose to go that route.

Her first order of business would be to drag Jerry into the plan. That wouldn't be hard. There were quite a few students who highly trusted Claire's 'gut feeling' and Jerry was one of them.

Claire rummaged her bag for her book and dragged her chair over to Jerry's desk. She had just finished her food and was putting her lunch box away. Claire wasn't particularly hungry. Tired, yes, but not hungry, so she had missed lunch today.

"Hey." She greeted Jerry, then set her chair down with herself in it.

Jerry nodded. "I'll just go wash my hands first?" She stated in a questioning tone while standing up.

"I got a bad feeling about the next class." Claire said.

Jerry stopped in her tracks. "How bad?"

"Very."

Jerry nodded. "I'll uh- get the others when I come back?"

"Please do." Claire couldn't help but let out a yawn. "I'll start by then."

"Good luck to us then." Jerry let out a weak smile before heading out to wash her hands. Claire barely held back a chortle at her use of 'luck.'

Now that she had Jerry on her sides, she needed to gather some of the other smarter students of the class. It was practically impossible to get all of the students in on this, but getting a few of them on board was no big deal. And if these students were the smarter ones of the class, well, at least the other would be able to cheat off of them.

"Benni!", Claire turned to face her neighbour, who in turn turned away from her conversation with Glen. Claire called him in as well. "Glen! You're here too, great!"

"Yeah?" Benni asked.

"Care to help us revise for the next class?".

Benni tilted her head slightly in thought. "Why?" She asked.

"I don't trust the teacher.", Claire answered right away.

Benni blinked and nodded. "Okay?"

That was as solid of a confirmation one could get out of Benni. She had another acquaintance now.

Claire then turned towards Benni's table-sitting friend. "What about you, Glen?"

Glen, shook his head immediately. "Don't want to think about geograph-"

"Oh, you're coming too." Benni interrupted and decided for him.

Glen sighed and raised his hands in defeat. "...well you heard her."

Claire grinned. Three down, quite a bit more to go. "Let's get some others in here too." She suggested as she got up.

The three spent some time gathering more members for their 'revision group'. Jerry joined and helped them as soon as she got back too.

Not too much time later, Claire was sitting at the forefront of a group of twelve that had gathered around three desks joined together.

"You think she's going to do something today?" Leon asked.

Claire nodded. "Yeah. Gut feeling. Maybe I'm just being paranoid."

"What do you wanna know?" Benni asked. She already had her book open to the syllabus of the last class.

Claire smiled. "Start with the latest topic? We can read the stuff farther back if we get the time."

"How about I go through the notes of the class before that?" Seb, the class topper, suggested. "I'll mark down anything I feel is important and you can go through that later."

"That's great!" Jerry exclaimed. "I'll try and find answers to the back exercises."

"I'll join you in that." Leon offered.

The group soon divided itself into sub groups, each of which attempted to make sense of a different topic. Claire oversaw it all, joining different groups periodically. She'd lead their discussions towards the questions she still remembered from the exam.

The group wasn't able to get a lot done, after all they only had a bit over ten minutes. Even still, Claire was able to find the answers to close to half of the questions, and better yet now quite a few of her classmates knew the answers too.

"Recess is over." A loud voice boomed through the doorway. Their teacher was there. "Move those tables back and get to your seats."

The class complied as quickly as they could. The class was, for a moment, a symphony of shuffling feet, moving desks and chairs, and rushed goodbyes, but it was soon followed by silence.

"I'll be taking a test today." Miss Soma announced again. She dropped the stack of paper -- the exam sheets -- on her desk and pointed at them. "Distribute these. You'll have half an hour to write."

Claire looked around the classroom, over to where each of the members of her group were. She saw a few of them turn towards her and nod. They had this in the bag.

Claire went back once again. The teacher hadn't been too angry this time. No one bombed the test, but the vast majority still scored under fifty percent. Claire went back right when she had finished with her first outburst.

Which ended quite a bit before her class ended.

Which meant that she had gone back in time to the recess.

And that was what had happened indeed. She returned back to a time when she was still in the group, preparing for the exam.

The culprit, she'd found out, was Kyle. Not long after she came to her senses, she'd seen Kyle spill some water onto himself, something she didn't remember happening before.

Claire got to work. She couldn't really change much this time, other than maybe make a bit more of a racket -- get more people to notice in a sense.

The third test soon began, and ended much the same as earlier. Claire figured out that apparently their teacher had decided not to torture the much further than her first outburst. A welcome thing, maybe. If Claire had to live through these outburst again and again -- which she would undoubtedly be doing as tests made people more tense, and more likely to rely on 'luck' -- then she'd like the outbursts to be short.

Claire was back at the three joined tables. Another time jump to before the test.

"If I have to do this one more time, I'm burning this book." She muttered.

Her outburst earned her a chuckle from Leon. "Yeah, I get how you feel."

Claire almost planted her head in her book, but stopped herself with a sigh. "Can you just-", She pointed to a random passage in the book. "- explain this to me again?"

"Sure!" He grinned. "So you know how-"

"Recess is over." A loud voice boomed through the doorway, interrupting Leon's explanation. Their teacher was there. "Move those tables back and get to your seats."

The class complied as quickly as they could. The class was, for a moment, a symphony of shuffling feet, moving desks and chairs, and rushed goodbyes, but it was soon followed by silence.

The teacher then paused, unlike the last two iterations of this scenario. Claire raised her head.

A thump sounded out as Miss Soma plopped the stack of sheets down on the desk of a student in the front row.

"Distribute these." She uttered. "They're assignments you'll have to submit tomorrow."

Claire blinked.

Did- Did her teacher just decide to give their test out as an assignment now?

She plopped her head into her open book.
