Chapter 19 - Part 18

After a long silence, godfather spoke first.

" David. I am so sorry I took so long to come get you. I... I was looking for more evidence to pin this evil man down. I would never have thought I would rather find you hurt like this".

" I thought I was going to die there, godfather. I was tortured, almost everyday. There was a time I thought he would try to kill you", I said weakly.

" He did try to kill me", uncle Sam confessed

" What?! I said sharply.  I tried to sit up. Daniel, sensing this, helped me sit, while supporting my back with a pillow.

" Yes. He tempered with the brakes of my car. I had taken the car from the repair shop the day before. So, I never thought to check it again before giving it to Moses to go with it to ran an errand for me", Uncle Sam replied

" Please tell me Moses is fine", I begged

" He was unconscious for three days. But he has been discharged now. It was horrible. That was when I realised the gravity of the situation", uncle Sam explained

" We thank God, Moses is doing well. That could have been you, uncle. I don't know what I would have done if anything happened to you", I said.

" But, how did you know about me? How did you find me?"

" Andre called me and told me you had disappeared from your cell. He figured general had something to do with it. But, since he had no way of proving it, he decided to look for you. Then, he told me that, if anything should happen to him, I should promise to save you and get you away from general, alive", uncle Sam narrated.

" Uncle called dad and told him what had been happening with you. Genevieve corroborated everything uncle said, so father got the best detectives to intervene", Daniel continued

" It was not easy. I did not hear from Andre again. And the other officers did not even want to tell me anything. General, on the other hand, did not even want to see me when I asked to see him. So, I gathered all the evidence I got and gave it to the detectives. They are the ones who were able to get someone to help us find you", uncle's face darkened as he said this.

Then there was silence again. I had tears in my eyes. The knowledge of uncle trying to do everything to save me while I was easily giving up made me feel worse than I already did. Before I knew it, tears were falling down my cheeks.

" I remember hearing someone call me and comforting me when I passed out but I was thinking it was just a dream", I cried

Genevieve put her hands on my shoulders to comfort me. I smiled softly at her and she smiled back.

" It- it was me. I was the one who first found you. I was so worried that I was late. And that you had died. But, when I checked your pulse, you were still alive. It was so much of a relief. You have no idea", Daniel said.

I nodded. My family had not totally abandoned me like I thought. They came looking for me, when I was in trouble. That touched my heart, making me cry some more.

" Uncle, Andre... Andre is dead", I announced.

" What?!"

" No".

" What happened?"

Those were the reactions I got from them.

" He shot him. General found out he was the one who helped me. Andre found me and tried to take me out of there but General arrived. He told us he knew Andre was the one who helped me and... And shot him. He killed him, uncle. He killed him".

I could barely control my tears and was crying hard. Genevieve continued to comfort me. Uncle shook his head. He understood why Andre told him something might happen to him. How I wish I was able to convince him to go! All of these would not have happened.

" Don't worry, we will get to the bottom of this. He is with the police now. I just hope they will be able to get him to talk", uncle Sam said.

" He was arrested?" I asked

" Yes. And other three were arrested along with him. They won't ever bother you again. I am sure by now they are being arraigned before court", uncle revealed.

" I just hope they are given the maximum verdict. They have to pay for what they did to my brother", Genevieve said with disdain.

A nurse walked in.

" Oh, you are awake. How are you feeling?" the nurse asked

" I feel fine. My knee hurts and my whole body feels like it was trampled upon by a thousand elephants", I said.

" Well, with the way you were brought in, it is expected. Let me let the doctor know that you are awake", he said

" Thank you", I said.

My knee had been elevated and wrapped up. It hurt anytime I tried to move it. The doctor came and explained to us the procedures they had done on me. Apparently, they had to do a corrective surgery on my knee to enable me walk well again. And my for my wounds, it had to be cleaned and disinfected. And the IV fluid was for nourishment since I hadn't eaten or drank water for days.

I am glad that I am finally rid of general. But I needed full closure as well.
