" Hey Magnus, give me that explosion shit," I ordered, finishing the last straps on my braces. He nodded, raising his palm.
"I can only do it once a day without harm, so it'll have to be a one time thing ok,?" He warned. I nodded.
"I think I can make something for you to fix that. What happens if you use it more than once?," Dylan asked. Magnus tossed him a casual glance.
"I get serious burns on my hands, and the backlash leaves my wrists in a wretched state," He noted, twisting his wrist.
"So all the concentrated heat in your hands gives you burns and the massive release of it causes extreme amount of backlash in your wrists right?," Dylan asked another question. Magnus shrugs, turning back to me.
"I guess. Now, are you ready?," He asked, holding up the palm of his hand. I nodded, glancing at Dylan.
"Ok. Let's five this a shot," I murmured, before slamming my wrists together. I willed the water to leave my armor, some staking a shield into the ground behind me, the rest forming a giant shield in front of me. I watch as Magnus's hands start to glow red, the palm turning almost white with heat.
"GET READY LIONEL YOU BASTARD!," he screamed, pointing the shot at the ground.
"NOW DIE!," He roared, shooting it into the ground. I made eye contact, right as it exploded, white hot heat burning through my shield and thrusting me back.
"Dammit!!" I cried, ripping off my burnt brace and tossing it aside, watching my sweat melt the shield behind me. I glared at Magnus.
"How powerful did you make that blast on purpose?," I demanded. He smirked, taking a few steps closer to me.
"I was actually holding back thank you. That's the bare minimum I can use otherwise my shot wont explode. Sorry to burst your bubble, but whatever that was, It isnt your style." He retorted. I gritted my teeth. Before I could say anything he grins, picking up the braces.
"For one, you fight like me. Light and swift. This is heavy because it needs to store more sweat of yours. I could handle the weight because I'm more built than you. But you're slender. You need lighter accessories. So fighting like that wont ever work. Not any variation of it anyways, because it just doesnt suit you." He added as an afterthought. I shut my mouth with shock. Did he just tell me how to improve my fighting style and manage to be less if a dick than usual at the same time?
"So what can I do?," I demanded, falling to the ground on my but. He comes over and sits next to me.
"Dylan, I need your help over here real fast," He yelled before turning to me,his blue eyes locked on my wrist.
"As I said. Lighter things work best for you. Your speed is your greatest asset. Even I struggle against it. So, I'd say, your more of a one shot one kill sort of fighter. Like my explosion bullet, I think if you found a way to make something up like that, you'd be golden. However, there was one thing that you did in our last fight that impressed me. Your hands turned to frost. And when you touched me with them, I would've frozen over entirely had I not have melted your ice the second it touched me. " He expressed, grabbing my wrist. He pulled my glove off, noting the ice patterns on my fist.
" See you're holding back you ice power. These guys may see that as a good thing, but I dont. In a real fight, you won't have the luxury of someone who holds back, especially with you being as dangerous as you are. So you need a quick move. A quick offensive move. I think, instead of trying to go with creation, continue with what you know. An icicle can be just as sharp as a sword, and its light. You can make it put of literally thin air. Stop trying to go so big. Your powers just arent there yet," He informed me. I nodded, letting an icicle form out my palm.
"I guess it can be useful in close combat. But... It doesnt feel like a super move. The doctors said something once.. I think I want to try it,"
It's been two months since Magnus joined me in the Silverclaw gang. Progress has been slow. Extremely slow. Dylan and Magnus both had me running several different exercises a day. Each one more difficult than the one before it. But still, I havent come close to perfecting my newest power move.
"Hiws he coming," Lyra asked one day as Magnus repeatedly shit his fire bullets at me with that wicked gleam in his eyes.
"Good. Hes faster alot faster. Hes a little stronger too, but his newest super move isnt anything to sneeze at. I'm surprised hes even managed to get it to where it's at now without years of training. I think itll be awesome, just watch and see,"
Every day after my excercises, Magnus would take rounds of shooting at me with fire pellets, not even once attempting an explosion shot like the one he mastered with Mrs. Jones. He said once I managed to avoid his shots, hell think about whether or not In ready. But let me tell you, he doesnt hold back. If even one pellet hits me, half of that limb instantly feels like I'm on fire.
While we did that, We became known as the Runaways of Grandhill Valley. One day we both just disappeared. But that isnt true and we were the only ones who knew it
"Magnus, show me what you've got," Lyra ordered, crossing her arms. He nodded, crouching down low. He closes his eyes, and suddenly, flames erupted from his back. I watched in awe as the fire took shape of wings, and solidified in his shoulders.
"Impressive. What does it do for you?," Lyra asked with a giggle, staring him down like a python.
"It helps me improve my speed and agility and helps me move in the air more fluidly. It also can serve as a subservient release of extra fire that I can conjure up into a powerful blast at any moment, like a constant light weight reservoir of my fire power," He answered. In a split second, the flames shot fright back into him and flooded straight to his palm, where a huge wave of fire burn through the area, making it almost 30 feet before it stopped. Lyra nodded with a grin, turning to me. I shook my head.
"I'm sorry ma'am... I dont have the super move yet. But I got an idea from Dylans makeshift attacks he tried to start me off with a while ago. If you want me to show you that, I will," I asked. She nodded. I take position, like I'd seen Magnus do almost a hundred times now whenever he shot me. I closed my eyes, feeling the frost from my breath leak out of my mouth.
"NOW FREEZE!," I roared, watching as a wave of frost shot from my palm into the sky. Then the beam shattered, a rain of ice falling to the ground, impaling everything in its path. Dylan whistled, cheering me on from the side lines. I gritted my teeth, clutching my hand. Damn that hurts every time.
"Good work you two. Keep it up," Lyra criticized, before walking back into the house. I turn to Dylan and Magnus.
"Its too slow. But we know what you were trying to do. Keep it up yeah? You guys can take the rest of the day off, " Dylan told us, before standing up straight. I'm not gonna lie, hes scary. His blue eyes are always staring something down, and his height is even more intimidating. But then he acts like himself, and all I'm scared about is whether or not He wants to spif me up even more.
I watched as he left, before taking off to my room, leaving Magnus in the dust.
"Lio!!," Magnus yelled. I ignored him, continuing my walk into the house. I stormed down the hall, ignoring his babbling behind me before stomping into my room. When inside, I yank off my frozen shirt, throwing it to the ground and glaring at myself in the mirror. Once again, an attack of mine almost froze me over.
"Lio I'm coming in dammit!," Magnus yelled before entering the room. He stopped behind me, his eyes fixated on my image in the mirror.
"Come here..," He ordered. I shook my head, going to enter the bathroom.
"You cant seriously hope to melt all that off with a hot shower do you. Just get your ass over here," He ordered. I stopped, turning to him. I shivered, the cold stabbing my skin everywhere. I walked over to him, sitting on his bed. He sat next to me.
"Dont make this weird," He ordered. Before I could a react, he yanked me into his arms, pressing my back Into his chest. That's when I could feel the warmth coming from him. I relaxed, closing my eyes to the warmth. I never feel this warm anymore.
"That's it. Thank you Magnus," I whispered, my eyes fluttering softly. He growled, turning away.
"Yeah whatever," He looked embarrassed, but not once did he try to let go of me. Before I new it, I was asleep.
When I awoke the next morning, I was still warm. Unnaturally warm. A thick arm hung over my side, and a head was buried into my back. I felt my face heat up, and I dont think it was from Magnus's body curled up behind me.
"Uh... Magnus.. Magnus wake up," I murmured, feeling awkward. That's it, I've had it. I jump from the bed, my face turning an even darker shade of red.
"MAGNUS!! WHY THE HELL ARE WE SLEEPING TOGETHER!!," I screamed. He sat up, looking shocked. He looked around, scratching his neck.
"You took all night defrosting Lio. I guess I must've fallen asleep," He yawns, covering his mouth. He stayed up all night keeping me warm? I guess that shower wouldnt have done anything for that.
"Be a little more appreciative next time," He mutters before curling up on his side once more, closing his eyes. I gulped, my heart pounding. What is this feeling. I walk over to him.
"Thanks man," I murmured. On instinct, I touched his forehead, and was greeted with intense heat. No, not like his fire heat. It was feverish. He was feverish.
"Hey... You're warm... Magnus?" I whispered. I looked down at his finger tips, one thing standing out to me. They were pitch black... Almost an obsidian purple. I shake him, fear clogging my throat.
"Magnus!!! MAGNUS WAKE UP!!," I cried. I put my hand on his chest. Hes breathing but its faint. I tap the button on my intercom, calling for help as soon as I can. All I could wonder. What did I do to him.
