A week later.
Adam had shifted to a different district, transferred to a new school and taken up a mew identity. His history had also been erased by the government, according to the contract he signed with the Department of corrections.
As a transfer student at Mitsubishi High School's final year, he received quite a few inquisitive questions from his new class mates.
"So your name is Adam?"
"How did you end up transferring at this time of the academic year?"
"So you aren't from district 7?"
Adam answered them all patiently. The history prepared by the government was simple. His family had been killed in an attack by an alien beast, and the government had rehabilitated him into district 7.
The classmates looked at him with pity. After all, this was the kind of scenario they dreaded the most in this world. Alien beasts attacks were getting increasingly frequent over the years, even though the number and strength of heroes was increasing, stray attacks were getting more frequent.
In this world, ability users and ordinary folks were quite segregated. Yet, there was an effort by the government to ensure unity of the people. One of the ways was that all people would have common high school curriculum. Ability users or otherwise. This was to create a bonding between the two social groups and increase cohesion in society. Yet, as was common, ability users in high school used to gather together and form their own groups and the same was the case with ordinary people.
As a person with no ability, Adam was subconsciously integrated into that specific group. Adam's new identity and his effort at keeping a low profile meant he integrated into this place quickly. With no resentment of privilege from his earlier school, he had avoided any bullying and followed the unconscious hierarchy at the school.
Today, as class ended, Adam was about to leave when he heard an uproar.
"Oh no, there's an alien beast attack in our city! Look at the live broadcast!" Someone screamed.
Everyone quickly glanced at their holographic watches as the live feed of a terrifying red colored creature suddenly fell from a black hole in the sky into the busy city streets.
The red colored creature was humanoid, about two meters tall, but its strength was comparable to heroes.
"Isn't that a red orc?" The livestream chat commented.
"Shit, that seems to be a grade F creature!"
"It already killed fifteen people! When will the heroes arrive!"
At that moment, Adam observed that a woman wearing a green colored costume suddenly landed on the road from a skyscraper.
"It is the Grade F hero Green Buzz!" Someone commented on the chat.
"Hey, Green Buzz came to stop that monster!" One of Adam's classmates yelled.
The red orc looked at the woman in the hero costume and snarled. It used it's powerful fleshy strength to punch another innocent human who was trying to run away into a blood mist.
"Alien creature, you will pay for your crimes!" Green buzz yelled in anger as she swiped her green colored hair back.
Then the branches of trees in the boulevard and in a near by park began growing thicker and combined to form a large hand made of wood, the size of a car.
The wooden hand punched at the red orc with great power, however, the red orc didn't shrink back either and retaliated with its own strength. The two punches were equally matched.
The giant wooden hand began to show cracks, while Green Buzz began visibly panting. Clearly controlling the wood to such a degree was an exhausting affair, however the cracks on the wood were constantly healing as new barks began growing, at the same time, the red orc was flung backwards into a building and smashed into a shop that had already been evacuated.
"Look Green Buzz managed to push that monster back!"
"Thankfully a few Grade G heroes arrived on the scene and are helping people evacuate and reduce casualties!"
"Yes, looks like it is Grade G hero Crowd Calmer - he has the ability to calm large crowds and guide them to rescue!"
"It has no combat ability, but is useful for rescue. He isn't half bad."
Adam looked at the cheering crowd and smirked. Over fifteen people had died due to the rampant escapade of Greed Buzz and that Alien, but the people had already forgotten about it.
Meanwhile, more branches began growing and twisted into rope like locks, completely tying up the red orc's hands and legs in the air. Green Buzz looked extremely exhausted, but did not halt. Instead the car sized hand once again smashed into the tied up Red Orc with all its might.
The punch was terrifying and blew up a gust of wind behind the red orc who was suspended mid air. The red orc's muscles exploded and blood gushed out. The impact was too severe for the red orc to sustain, however this had taken a toll on Green Buzz as well.
"Looks like Green Buzz has reached her limit, but the monster hasn't died yet. Have reinforcements arrived yet?" The news anchor asked during the broadcast.
At that moment, a young boy suddenly materialized from under the road, as if he were a part of the road itself.
"Oh, looks like I appeared just on time." The young boy muttered as he looked at the exhausted Green Buzz. "Are you okay?" He asked.
Green Buzz nodded in relief. "I didn't expect that orc to survive two of my strongest hits." She said as the wood began rotting away, showing that her power was temporarily exhausted.
The young boy nodded. "It seems this red orc has a powerful fleshy body ability and resistance. Never mind, I, Concretion have arrived. He can't wreak any more havoc now."
Concretion was a grade D hero. His ability was to control concrete, which made him extremely effective in Urban areas.
Concretion waved his hand and the concrete on a damaged building began to reconstruct into a concrete pillar and slapped the near death orc which was getting up to attack the exhausted Green Buzz.
The orc's eyes bulged as it used its hands to stop the concrete pillar from crushing him head down, however, from the pillar sharp needles protruded out that spiked the orc. The helpless orc slumped to the ground.
"Concretion is so powerful!" Someone yelled in the broadcast chat.
"Concretion is extremely powerful in city based environments. His ability to control concrete has made him one of the most high potential heroes in the association!" The news anchor yelled in excitement. "The terrifying monster has already been dealt with!"
"It is no surprise that Concretion is already a Grade D hero at such a young age. He has the potential to become one of District 7's Grade A heroes in the future!" Another commentator, a retired hero remarked seriously.
