....
In the bustling city of London, England, men and women flood the streets as they go about their daily routines. Men in their business suits and women in their extravagant dresses strut their ways about being sure to wave and greet each other accordingly.
Of the the plethora of people, one man in particular stood out with his dark raven hair and similar coloured clothing. His stoic expression clearing the way for him as people that steered in his direction immediately got out of his path.
Coming up on the infamous orphanage known in the wizarding world, Wool's Orphanage glared back at the man for a moment before he proceeded to the door and knocked. Once...Twice...Until finally a woman answered, as she looked at the man she began stuttering, "P-Pleasant Good day Mr. Snape...the boy is--"
The man known as Snape cut her off, "We can skip the pleasantries, woman," he rendered her with his stern stare, "Simply direct me to the child."
The woman immediately scrambled, "O-Ofcourse sir, right away!" her voice shaky as she lead the way up a flight or stairs.
Snape made sure to survey the Orphanage as they went up the stairs, he made note of the mess that was left by a scuffle. Furniture broken, vases destroyed and the setting of the home was ransacked.
"H-He got into a fight this mornin' sir," the woman saw a reason to explain, "Heard that the bigger kids were bullying the little ones, see. And when he heard about it, he tried to stand up to them..."
Snape and the woman stopped at a door that had a paper stuck to the door, the paper reading 'FREAK!' Snape raised a brow and the woman hastily tore it down.
"K-Kids can be quite cruel, Mr.--" she tried to play off only to be cut off.
"Get out...of my sight," Snape calmly reprimanded and the woman immediately ducked her head and threaded down the hallway. Snape huffed and opened the door.
Stepping into the room, he immediately felt a chill run down his spine and his pores were all one alert. Raising a curious brow he noticed a little boy no older than the age of 5 sitting at a desk reading a book.
Snape closed the door and the boy didn't acknowledge him still. The older man went and sat down on the tiny bed at one corner of the room.
The room was shrouded in silence as Snape simply stared at a wall and the boy continued to read the book in front of him. A solid minute passed and the young brown haired boy in the room merely flipped the page in his book just as the loud crash of something behind him sounded in the room.
Snape threw the bed over and thrashed the boy's old tattered wardrobe as well as nightstand. The boy was still unbothered as Snape then came around and slammed his hand on the desk the boy was at.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?!" the older man snapped at the boy.
The little boy merely smiled innocently, "Whatever do you mean...sir?"
"Don't you dare 'sir' me, Thomas!" Snape grabbed his book and shut it. "You set not one...not two...but three snakes on the boys from this sorry excuse of a foster home!"
Snape huffed and leaned against the wall beside Tommy's study table and the boy merely sighed. Snape and Tommy then both crossed their arms and huffed, directing their heads away from each other.
"They had it coming, y'know..." Tommy muttered, his brown curls shining with the sunlight.
"That is not...the point," Snape emphasized, not at all amused by the child's antics.
They both suddenly heard chuckling from behind them, prompting both heads to shoot to the now opened door.
An old man with a long gray beard stood in the door way with his spectacles on display for everyone to see, "It seems you're both off to a good start," the old man's eyes surveyed the distressed room.
The blue eyed boy's eyes widened and he sprinted to the old man, "Mr. Albus!" he gleefully threw himself at the elder.
Albus chuckled, "Why hello there, Tommy!" he patted the boy's hair, "I heard what you did today."
The boy suddenly pulled away and looked down, ashamed, "I'm sorry, Mr. Albus...but those boys were--"
"Bullies?" Albus raised an amused brow when the boy nodded, "Well Tommy..." Albus momentarily directed his eyes to Snape whom simply watched the interaction before looking back at Tommy, "Sometimes when people get us angry...we usually have to be the ones to walk away...be the bigger man in this case."
"I did Mr. Albus!" the boy huffed and crossed his arms, "But those twits wouldn't let me be!"
Albus merely chuckled, but still took out his elegant wand, "Well...you don't have to worry about that for much longer." Tommy watched in awe as his room magically began to put itself back together as if time was rewinding.
"Woah..." Tommy muttered before running to his closet and playing with its door. He laughed and looked to Albus, "Mr. Albus, my room--"
Albus placed a finger on his own lips and shushed Tommy amusingly and the boy copied him whilst nodding.
Albus then looked to Snape and they both were about to leave, "We will see you around Tommy, until then...no trouble, okay?"
Tommy nodded, "Yes sir!" he saluted and Albus laughed followed by a scoffing Snape.
The two men began leaving the orphanage and Snape took time to notice how quiet the place was. "What shall we do with him now, Headmaster?"
Albus hummed, "Well, the Ministry may soon know of his existence seeing as we came to visit the orphanage together, however...they know not of his lineage."
Snape hummed, not the least bit interested in the Ministry, "But the boy himself..."
Albus suddenly grew a smile as they both then stopped in the bustling streets of London. The noise of the crowd blinding out what Albus said to Snape before his eyes widened, "WHAT?!"
People suddenly became startled at Snape's voice, but continued to pass the two men as if nothing was out of the ordinary now.
Snape was still in a state of shock as he watched Albus' taunting smile that others would consider warm, "Headmaster, with all due respect, this is preposterous!"
"I think it's a brilliant idea!" Albus turned around and was about to leave, "We need him Severus," the old man began walking, " And incase you're wondering...Yes, you WILL be signing those papers. Tomorrow morning Minerva will be joining us."
Snape watched as Albus' back disappeared within the crowd, 'This can't be happening...' Snape slightly gritted his teeth before heaving a deep sigh.
Snape turned back to the orphanage down the street from whence he and Albus just left and saw the boy from earlier watching him. Snape's cold eyes met the boy's dark blues for a second before he too, disappeared within the crowd, leaving the boy staring in wonder.
.....
The next day Snape and Albus are seen sitting with the woman from yesterday behind the desk of her at-home-office. She spoke to Snape whom had a pen, "If you'll just sign here," she directed him and he begrudgingly signed.
Albus smiled and Severus growled slightly at the predicament he was in now.
"Congratulations Mr. Snape!" she cheerfully said, "You are now the guardian of Thomas Donovan," they shook hands.
Albus then shook her hand as well, "Madam Palmer, why don't we give the new father and son some time to let it sink in before we leave?"
Snape sent Albus a heated glare to which the older man merely winked at him and escorted the woman away. Suddenly Tommy came into the room and they both stared at each other.
A pin dropping could be heard as they neither male uttered a word until Thomas cleared his throat, "So...you're adopting me, huh?"
Snape took a breath, "...It would seem so...."
"Why?" the boy looked up at Severus.
"Do not ask questions child, " Snape snapped slightly, "Just remember one thing...You owe me now, I saved your life so you will do as I say...and not question it." Snape noticed the boy slightly jump from his tone, "In exchange you will be given food, shelter and an education...do you understand?"
Thomas gulped, but nodded non the less, "Yes sir..."
"Very well then, Thomas..." Snape stepped passed him and beckoned him forward as well.
Tommy walked behind Snape and watched as the man in question strode through the orphanage with his head held high.
Children whom Thomas grew up with watched from afar as the boy walked behind the scary looking man. Some of the bullies from before scoffed and Tommy felt oddly gratified.
Soon enough they made it to the front door where Albus and another old woman was waiting for them. Tommy's eyes lit up as he saw his old suitcase waiting with Albus and the elder woman.
He saw the woman gasping before she looked at Albus momentarily then back to him, "Take a good look Donovan," Snape's voice caught his attention, "That is Ms. Mcgonagall...and of course you already know Albus..."
Snape looked down at the boy and watched him nod. Tommy asked, "What is she doing here?"
Severus didn't answer as he merely walked passed the two elders and disappeared within the light of the doorway.
The woman knelt to his level, with tears brimming in her eyes for some reason. She touched his face, "Hello there, Thomas..."
"Hello ma'am...why are you crying?" he wiped her tears and she merely shook her head.
"No reason darling...I'm just happy to welcome you to your new life," her shaky voice, making the boy oddly emotional as well.
Thomas smiled and looked up at Albus whom shared his smile with equal zeal. Tommy looked forward to probably see Snape, but the man was already long gone.
Tommy's smile faltered, 'My new life...huh.'
