Near the outside of the forest, Chaos sang a tune as he walked past the unsuspecting palace guards who were unable to see him. Their screams as his siblings attacked them and the souls in the forest were music to his ears. He enjoyed seeing the bloodshed and terror when it came to humans.
If only he could leave the forest and do it to more humans.
"If Artemis is freed today then we can travel around scaring humans. What a life," Chaos grinned imagining the wars he could start. Chaotic things were the only way he felt close to having a heart. There was a funny feeling in his chest whenever he thought about the damage he could do to humans.
Chaos had one person on his mind to kill before going back to be by Artemis's side. He didn't care to indulge in killing the guards since his siblings were doing just fine without him.
"All of you imbeciles should die today for trying to kill Artemis," he criticized the guards.
When he exited the forest it wasn't hard for him to guess where Catherine was located. The young girl rode a horse covered in gold which was stupid. If she needed to make a quick escape the horse wouldn't be fast enough. Not that it mattered as Chaos wasn't going to let her escape either way.
"How on earth does that man have these two women falling for him? The princess is a bit naive so I can see how easy it was for him to captivate her. Why on earth would Artemis want to be in love with the same man as the princess? It's an insult to how great she is," Chaos's mood dampened now that he thought of Artemis and her budding romance with Alexander. "I'm going to kill him but Artemis might try to kill me afterward."
"You know what, I don't need to do anything. Human life is so fragile and short. He'll die soon enough without me having to do anything. There is a problem with his reincarnations popping up but I can try to find them first so Artemis can't get together with him again. If I make a good deal with the devil, I can make sure he doesn't reincarnate. That's it," Chaos clapped his hands, deciding upon this as his solution.
A Goddess and a human did not belong together so he was doing Artemis a favor. She should be thankful for his kindness.
"You look good enough for me to use," he switched topic as he laid eyes on a guard shaking in his boots next to the horse Catherine was seated on. The screams from the forest must be scaring him. "Why must we be here?" Chaos whispered into the guard's ear to work his magic.
The guard looked around confused by a whisper in the wind. He was already terrified by the screams coming from the forest of men from their side. Why couldn't the princess just let them retreat? How certain were she and Thomas that the king's killer was here?
"Many of you are dying but she isn't retreating. You're all going to die because of her," Chaos whispered.
'We don't have a clue what's in the forest. One person can't be making all those men scream out. We're going to die if we don't leave while we have a chance. I don't want to risk my life for a royal. She doesn't care about us. I should run,' the guard contemplated his options.
He might get beaten for abandoning his post but that was much better than dying. Why didn't the princess risk her life to avenge her brother instead of sending innocent men to get hurt?
"She'll get you killed all because she wants Alexander. This has nothing to do with her brother. She has always loved Alexander and wants him back. Are you ready to die over her love? If the princess wasn't alive, there would be no one to tell you to stay. Look at your peers. They're shaking and would run if they had a chance," Chaos whispered into the guard's ear then blew smoke from his mouth into the guard's eye.
The smoke created an illusion for the guard as it appeared his peers were also nervous wrecks wanting to escape the fight.
"It's her life or the life of all these men. What are you going to do?" Asked Chaos.
The guard shook with fear not wanting to die. The screams were becoming louder and closer to where they stood. He looked up at the princess to see her casually eating fruits her servant had on a tray. At least with Darius, he would be serious and sometimes join the fight.
"Ah!" The man yelled, taking a small dagger out of his pants to use on Catherine.
It was so unexpected for a palace guard to attack a royal that the other guards stood in shock watching the princess fall from her horse to the ground.
"A-Are you crazy?" Catherine stuttered looking up at the man who pushed her off the horse. The other guards finally snapped out of their trance to grab the man who tried to hurt the princess. "Have him-no," her eyes widened when she spotted Chaos standing right behind the man with a devious grin. "Why-ugh," she groaned, feeling a pain in her side.
"K-kill him," she pointed at Chaos but the other guards were unable to pinpoint who or what she was pointing at.
"I'll come to visit you in the underworld, princess."
