Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

Artemis tapped her cheek with her fingers out of boredom as she watched Alexander sleeping on the ground. She had dragged him back to the lake which probably wasn't the best idea since he might've hit a few rocks with his head as she dragged him. If she or the bracelet weren't the ones to kill him, it might be brain damage. Again she used a stick to poke at him from afar. She had one of the most feared men in the kingdom in her grasps but couldn't understand why he was so feared.

In his time here with her, he hadn't tried to fight his way out of here and just accepted the fact he was her prisoner. Until she mentioned his father he was obedient but in the end, the man had knocked himself out from the pain. Was he really a skilled fighter or was he just given the position of general because of his family name? His common sense wasn't really shown to her yet.

"Do I want him to be fighting me instead of being so obedient? Is that the type of person I am?" She thought out loud as she continued to poke him. "You aren't so scary right now. I could just kill you when I want to."

The day had gone by quickly as the sun began to say goodbye and the moon was taking the stage for its part of the day. The tree in the middle of the lake began to glow more than it did in the daylight as many more wishes normally came in around this time.

"I wish to be more beautiful."

"I wish I could take her spot."

"I wish I didn't have these children and could run away from this home."

"Did those villagers put up another wishing stall? Why are there always so many wishes coming in? Who told them to wish for things at night?" Artemis groaned, dropping the stick to cover her ears with her hands. She was tired of hearing the things they wanted. "If I burn you down will it stop all of this?" She asked the tree.

Artemis fell backward onto the ground close to Alexander and looked up at the stars making their grand appearance. This was the best part of her day. Seeing the darkness take over the world and its beauty appearing in the sky. To have a little fun for herself, she held her hand up towards the sky connecting the dots of the constellations. If the humans took a moment to stop asking for things they would see what she made in the sky.

"I should write death to all in the sky," she chuckled, almost tempted to do it. Imagine all the panic and terror there would be if she did. "It's the end of the world," Artemis mimicked their cries from past world events. "And then they'll get on their knees to pray to the same beings they wanted dead."

Artemis continued to connect the other constellations while trying her best to ignore the wishes making their way into the forest. The wishes would only humor her if someone wanted to plot against the king or light the world on fire. Show her something interesting at least.

"Why are there so few stars tonight? Why are some of you hiding? Maybe you don't want to share your beauty with the humans and I don't blame you. Make your way to the earth and kill all of them."

"There is something seriously wrong with you," Alexander groaned, rubbing his aching head. His fall to the ground could not have been the only thing to cause this much pain in his head. The bracelet affected his chest, not his head. He took a peek at where he was now and saw that he was back at the lake. "Did one of those things drag me back here again?"

"No, I did. Why? Is your head hurting you?" She asked though she knew that it was. He started it by falling to the ground in the first place. Who's to say all the pain didn't come from his carelessness?

"You're asking the obvious," he replied, rubbing the back of his head. "I would rather be back out at war than be here."

"I have the ability to heal wounds."

"Are you going to heal my head?" He looked in her direction and saw her playing in the sky. Alexander realized how powerful she was to be messing around with the stars. How on earth were humans able to kill these people?

"No," she replied, looking in the opposite direction to hide her devious smile. Artemis covered her mouth so he wouldn't be able to hear her laughing at him.

"So why did you bring up the fact you could heal the wound?" Alexander still heard her laughing even when she tried to hide the fact that she was. He woke up to her voice telling stars to rain down on this world and now she was teasing him.

"I just wanted to enjoy denying you after you asked me to heal you. Haven't you had worse wounds when you were out fighting?"

"I'm human and these things still hurt. We can't all be like you healing wounds and playing with stars," he sighed, deciding to stop touching his head since it might be making the problem worse. Staying still for a while might be the key. He looked up at the sky watching her draw something with the stars and found the moment to be peaceful.
