Chereads / When The Goddess Fell In Love / Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

Chapter 38 - Chapter 38

Artemis did have a few good memories of the humans coming to visit her but those memories came from the eyes of the first Goddess of the night, not her. The warm smiles of humans as they brought their written wishes on paper for her to bless as they threw a coin in the temple waters. The laughter as they conversed with her and thanked her for her duty. They were good memories but still memories of the past.

The words from the kings were able to easily manipulate those same humans into pointing weapons against her. Some were influenced by the kings into fearing Gods, some were threatened, and some just wanted to get rid of the Gods all along and used the opportunity to turn on her and others.

"Do you ever miss what you had before when humans visited you? And do you ever think the world could return to that one day? I do," said Alexander.

"Are you always this optimistic? It's starting to choke me. To answer both of your questions, I don't miss the humans and if there can ever be peace it might exist far, far away in the future but you keep forgetting I don't want peace. I want to see the world become chaotic at least once and then there can be that world peace you want so badly," Artemis said so they could both get what they wanted.

She just wanted for humans to have to live with the fact that there were other creatures in this world. Creatures that are much stronger than them and unlike these days, humans won't be able to kill those creatures. "I'm going to take those fallen artifacts and hide them once I no longer have a use for them. Humans will become powerless and creatures wearier of me. Both of them will have to live with each other peacefully and not kill each other."

"That sounds really peaceful to me. The opposite of wanting a chaotic world," Alexander smiled because Artemis didn't know what on earth she wanted but he did with the short time he knew her. She was angry at the world, yes but she wanted to make it better for others like her who had to hide away in order to not be killed. She just did not want to be seen as a good person. "There's nothing wrong with being a good person and doing the right thing for others. You can still get your revenge on other things along the way."

"It never ceases to amaze me that my prisoner keeps trying to lecture me. If you knew the things going on inside my head, you wouldn't be telling me about being a good person. I still desire to hurt a lot of humans but don't worry, there are a lot of other creatures on my list. I'm going after my elders, your kings, bad humans who hurt others, and the same is for other creatures. I'm going to cleanse this world and make it brand new. After the chaos will come peace with everyone working together."

It was only right the world got to experience the same feeling she had. The screams and death all around from people you cared for. She carried more bad memories than good ones from the first Goddess of the night who experienced all of this.

The humans who came to her for blessings the day she was attacked by the king's men, looked to her for protection so she unleashed her wrath upon the king's men but this action made the king's words more believable that God's should be feared. Her actions in trying to protect humans give reason to other humans to hunt down Gods with their king out of fear that Gods might one day kill all of them as they had the power to do so.

The day her temple was set on fire was one of the bad memories passed onto her that she couldn't forget. "Leave this place and never speak a word of you being her. As far as anyone is concerned, you grew to dislike God's overtime," she told a young mother who came for another blessing for her child. Artemis saw the king's men killing anyone who came to her temple and the best way for many to stay alive was to run and lie.

"But Goddess-" the woman tried to reason, hoping there was another way. It was thanks to Artemis's blessing that her sick baby had gotten much better. Even if her mother-in-law or husband did not believe it, she did. How could she just turn her back on the Goddess when she needed help? What example would that set for her baby? "I have to repay you for what you did for me."

"I never asked you to repay me. Please take your child somewhere safe and do what I told you. I'll feel better if I know you got out of here and your child lives to grow up. Please run away before they get any closer. Many of the others have already died," Artemis pleaded with the woman. She had to think of the child in her arms. The palace guards will kill the baby without any remorse. There were many children, women, and men already killed.

"Thank you for always coming to visit me," Artemis placed her hand on the woman's head creating a light to send her away and many of the other humans who were standing with Artemis hoping to protect her. She couldn't allow for any more of them to be killed. "Goodbye," she bid them farewell.

Artemis knew she shouldn't have hurt many of the guards she saw killing humans but she had to. It made her angry to see them turn on their own just because they came to her for blessings. She never had any plans on hurting humans before this. Artemis was sent here to help them. What part of that couldn't they understand?

Still, with everything that had happened that day, what really pushed Artemis over the edge and made her spirit become evil was the betrayal of a human man she had come to love. He led the palace guards straight to her temple and stood back as it was set on fire.
