"What trouble can I cause while the king is out to play?" He floated around the room putting together something to amuse him for the day. He levitated from the king's room to the one above and peeked in to see who was there. Unfortunately, the room had been empty. "Aren't the maids supposed to be cleaning these rooms right now?"
"He's a guard and he's not going to fall in love with a maid Mia. Stop trying to convince yourself that he will."
Chaos grinned hearing the faint words coming from outside the room. It was always the most fun to mess with relationships. Like a ghost, he floated out to the maids to listen in on the conversation. What he came across was a young girl deeply in love with some man selling her false dreams and her friend had an aura like she was in love. It was obvious what was happening between the two. One of the friends was a liar.
Because he was not visible to the two maids, Chaos went beside the maid Mia to help her in the right direction for this situation. "You're a lovely lady. What's not to love about you for the man to not want to settle down?" He whispered the sweet words in her ear.
"A palace maid is not much different from the guards and he's not of noble status. There's nothing wrong with me that he won't love me," Mia replied, influenced by Chao's charm.
His words were like a whisper in the wind upon her ears. The first sentence he spoke had brought her under his spell. Some humans were easier to take control of to push them over the edge. Like young girls easily influenced by their feelings for a man.
"He's going to look to marry up not down Mia," Crystal, the other maid, tried to drive it into her friend's brain. She had been keeping a secret from Mia and wanted to let the girl know how much of a bad person the man was before telling her. "There's been rumors going around about how much he uses you. Your reputation hasn't been good and people are starting to think you might be one of the king's women because you clean his room."
Mia chuckled believing the assumption to be ignorant. There were a handful of maids sent to clean the kings wrong. They were picked because they knew to keep their heads down and do the task at hand.
"Doesn't she seem jealous of your relationship? Why doesn't she occupy herself with a relationship? She wants you to be just like her," Chaos whispered once more.
"Jealousy is a dangerous thing Crystal. Even if I get together with him, I wouldn't just leave you behind. You're my friend and I know just like me, you wouldn't want to be a palace maid forever. He has a good size home and it wouldn't matter if you came to live there. Trying to tell me bad things about him is not the road to go."
Crystal couldn't believe her ears that Mia thought she was jealous of the nonexistent relationship Mia had. Mia wouldn't even have been in the position to date a guard if not for Crystal helping her get the job as a maid. Who did Mia think she was?
Chaos noticed the anger inside of Crystal and switched to influencing her instead of Mia. It was a talent of his to dig into the root of someone's anger and see some of their past memories. "How can she talk like this when you helped give her a better life? She would still be begging on the street if not for you. Now she wants to offer you a place to live in her home?"
"I'm not jealous of you Mia. You're still the same girl I saw in the village begging for bread and I took you under my wing. One man is using you, putting false dreams into your head and now you think you can offer me help? You're new to the palace and how things work. Just because you worked close to the king you are somehow better than me? Those close to the king are first to get punished."
"No matter what you say, it keeps sounding like jealousy Crystal. You don't like that I came here and I am already doing better than you," Mia threw the rag she was holding at Crystal.
"Oh yes, opening my legs to a man just using me for sex is much better. Oh how jealous I am of you, Mia. What more should I have expected from a village woman like you? The only reason he showed you an ounce of interest was because of me. I'm the one who asked him to show interest in you because of how much you would not shut up about your little crush!" Crystal exclaimed, releasing the frustration she had for Mia.
Crystal brought the girl here looking to help her but Mia was shooting too far above the clouds.
"I don't believe you," Mia shook her head, still believing Crystal was jealous. Not many men here showed any interest in Crystal the entire time that she was here. She had once believed Crystal disliked that the head maid was going to permanently make Mia be the only one serving the king and that was how the jealous behavior started. "Maybe if you loosened up a man would take interest in you and you'll stop being jealous of younger girls..I'll leave you here to be nothing more than a maid."
"She isn't grateful for the things you've done to help her. You didn't have to help the girl on the street and now look at her eyes thinking she's better than you. She's boasting about the guy you used to be with. How insulting," Chaos whispered then backed away to watch what he helped create.
They had animosity for each other but it wouldn't have come to this point so quickly without his influence. He smiled and enjoyed the echo of the slap Crystal gave to Mia right across her face.
