Right, I wanted to ask him about the poem he sent the other day.
"You--"
"My contact was deleted from your phone, right?"
That wasn't what I wanted to say, but "how did you know about that?"
He took a deep sigh before answering.
"Your mother was going on and on about deleting my contact in your phone the other day. She even called the Margaret family over for help in connecting devices."
Oh... No wonder Mia wasn't in school that day. But does that mean, my mum knows what I'm doing on my phone? Even my chat conversations? That's creepy!
Eric seemed down so I didn't think it was the right time to ask him about what he sent now.
I went ahead first because Eric said he has something to do. The moment I stepped into the classroom, Mia ran to me and grabbed my hand. Before I knew it, I was already dragged into a girls' talk. The boys had theirs too, and Eric was dragged in there by his friends when he came.
We of those engaged were talking about our fiance, about how nice and handsome they are. While the others talk about their dream man, like how handsome and romantic they want them to be. Most of us are from one of those big families, so having a fiance is a common thing for us.
We took turns talking about our fiance. First up was Emily.
" 'Roses are red, Violets are blue, If i were to choose a date, It would be you.' And that's what he told me during our first meeting~"
"Kya~ Emily, you imitated him well."
Oh... So it was a trend.
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, if Emily was a guy, I would marry him."
Well, it's normal for us girls to fall in love with boys who say those romantic words. After all, it's really rare nowadays.
After we were done talking, the boys came over to join us.
"Man, just because she and I are childhood friends, our parents arranged us together."
Most of their fiancees are childhood friends, and they dislike it because they're always stuck together.
I didn't understand that, so I spoke my thoughts out. "Isn't it better if you know each other since childhood? Like, you know each other pretty well and are able to get along."
"..."
An awkward silence is always and has always been my biggest fear.
"Naive. Too naive." Eric said while shaking his head. "Roses are red, Violets are blue; If my fiancee is someone naive, I'd rather not get married."
This guy.... he is definitely mocking me! Not directly, but indirectly!
Just when our conversation was over, it was time for class. Everyone returned to their seats, and our homeroom teacher came in for roll call.
During the whole time in class, my phone kept ringing non-stop. I was having an English class which was my favorite subject, so I didn't want to bother checking the caller, and set my phone on silent mode.
I totally forgot about it during break time because the class was having a big 'discussion' and I was invited to join.
"Dude, anyone would literally fall for Eric, even me."
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, If a guy falls in love with me, I would still be straight." Eric said it with a smirk.
"Imagine having someone like Eric as your fiance..." The girls started talking about their dream man.
"Imagine having a fiance who speaks romantic words to you everyday..." Their eyes were sparkling like stars. They were all in their own world.
"Imagine being engaged to a girly boy."
"Then you will be the one who protects him instead." That was humorous enough to make the class laugh out loud.
"Imagine being engaged to someone whom you've met once only..."
"But at least you met him."
I thought I should say something too since they've all shared their thoughts.
"Imagine being engaged to someone you've never met before." Everyone went silent when I said that.
Crap. My biggest fear is and has always been this kind of awkward silence after I said something shocking to them.
"Amanda, my darling... Is that true?" Mia shook my hand panicky with a face full of concern.
"...Yes."
Everyone gasped and was shocked to hear that. Their jaws were wide open and it might drop off anytime.
"Not surprised to hear that, though. I can relate." Everyone shifted their gaze to Eric when he said that.
Soon, break time was over. Everyone returned to their seats when the teacher entered the class. There was a knock on the door just when the class started..
When our teacher came back, she suddenly told me to leave immediately as someone had come to bring me home.
I was surprised to see Alice at the door. Did something happen at home? I quickly packed my things and left.
Alice carried my bag for me and brought me to the car that was parked outside of the school gate. She drove me home at normal speed, so I got curious about what exactly happened that she can still stay calm.
"Alice, did something happen?" Judging by her calm face, I don't think anything has happened, but I asked just in case.
"Nothing has happened at home, Miss. It's just that your father is heading for work."
What? Do I have to sacrifice school all for sending him to work? Come on! Just sending him a text is fine nowadays. I wonder if my sister has prepared my dress to change into when I get back.
When I reached home, my mum had an unpleasant look on her face. She's definitely displeased at how long it took for me to return. Well, I can't help it. I suddenly had to use the restroom for a bit before leaving the school grounds just now.
I entered the house and I saw my sister standing there. She whispered to me as I walked closer to her.
"I prepared your dress. Go change, quick!"
I nodded my head and rushed to my room to get changed. I did not have time to check who was the one who kept calling me on my phone during class, so I just left it on my bed and went downstairs.
Father was standing there impatient.
"Take care, father." My sister and I said as we bowed to him.
"Don't worry, Patrick. I will take care of these rebellious children." She really didn't have to point out that we're rebellious though.
After my father left, my sister and I went to our rooms and changed back into our school attires, preparing to return.
We took our bags and headed for the door, but mum locked all of the doors and gates, telling us to not go anywhere.
Are these father's orders? No, impossible. Not after he just gave me permission to attend school the other day.
"From now on, I will take charge of this house in your father's absence."
...What?!
My sister and I were left in full shock after hearing that.
"Roses are red, Violets are blue, we sacrificed school, all for father."
"Andrea, I have had enough of this poem today."
