A small figure in a black cloak shuffled out from the stone walls of the prison and was guided to the execution platform by the burly soldiers that surrounded her. She stoically stood at the center of the wooden platform as the crowd below her jeered and threw rotten fruit at her.
"Silence!"
A domineering voice rang out and just like that, the crowd instantly quieted. The girl on the platform immediately spun around to face the voice. Life flickered into her dull, lifeless eyes as she stared up with wide-eyed adoration at the regal figure sitting in a seat on the stage above her. "My prince!"
Not noticing the anger apparent in his expression, the girl took several unsteady steps towards the man before she tripped over the chains on her feet and she fell to her knees. The hood fell off, revealing the face of a thin girl with a mess of gold hair. "My prince!" she exclaimed again, as though she could not believe the figure in front of her was not a hallucination.
The girl pouted, acting more like a spoiled child than a prisoner about to be executed. "My prince, I kept telling the guards to let me talk to you, but they wouldn't let me!" she complained. "I told them you wouldn't let me be unfairly imprisoned!"
Her face bloomed into a wide smile. "I'm glad you've finally found out."
"No, I've known for a while," the man replied tersely. He smiled a cruel smile. "I ordered it."
The smile on the girl's face faded slightly. "You... have?"
Her brow furrowed as she tried to make sense of his words. "Then..."
She clapped her hands together and laughed. "Oh! You've finally remembered my birthday! What an elaborate set-up! You had me completely fooled."
The man's face darkened. He threw his hand out. "Violet Khronos. For the crime of attempted murder of a member of royalty, you have been sentenced to death."
Violet's face paled. "My prince, you should not even joke about that! Treason? I would never!"
"You have already admitted to attempting to kill my fiancée, Daisy Baker. Do not try to lie to me!" The man roared.
"Fiancée? Daisy? I'm you're fianc--"
"You are not my fiancée! Daisy is the one I love, and the one I choose as my fiancée."
"No!" Violet shrieked. "Daisy is an upstart who doesn't know her place! A filthy commoner--"
She was immediately drowned out by the crowd suddenly roaring to life, calling for her death and defending Daisy.
"It's no use talking to you anymore. Kill her."
With those cold words, Violet's beloved ex-fiance stood up and left without a backwards glance.
"My prince!" Violet called out. "My prince! My prince!"
Her voice got more urgent as the prince continued to ignore her. Hands roughly grabbed her and pushed her down as she screamed and struggled. Her head hit wooden platform with a bang.
"Ow! That hurts! My prince! This joke is going too far! My prince! Stop this at once!"
Her cries went unheard. With the roar of the crowds calling for her death, her lonesome voice fell on no ears.
"My prince!"
The executor's axe flashed overhead.
"I'm scared."
The crowd cheered as the platform was dyed with blood.
Violet Khronos was no more.
