Chapter 3 - The Dogged Villainess is Engaged

Could she have traveled back in time?

Violet snorted. Yeah, right. As if anyone could time travel back years.

Violet lightly slapped her cheeks and stood up. It must have been a nightmare, then. The result of one too many all-nighters.

"I'll sleep early tonight," Violet resolved as she left her closet.

Her eyes swept across her bedroom. Everything was so familiar, so nostalgic: the unmade bed, the small personal shrine to Prince Edward, the papers sprawled across her desk, the huge portrait of Prince Edward, the custom Prince Edward-themed calendar...

Violet shook herself out of those thoughts. It's not like years have really passed by. She stepped towards the portrait to do her daily greetings. She clasped her hands together and stared adoringly at the painting. "My prince! You're as beautiful as always," she gushed.

The image of his cold face as he ordered her beheading flashed into Violet's mind. Her smile faded slightly. She quickly shook her head. That was just a dream! There's no way her angelic prince would be so cruel! Immediately Violet slapped herself.

Her cheek throbbed red. How dare she! How dare her dream besmirch the good name of the saint-like Prince Edward! How insolent!

Violet glanced at the calendar. May 25. That was the day she was engaged to Prince Edward in her dream. She could still remember her shock and delight when her father announced it atdinner. She could still remember those ten arduous years during which she strived to be the perfect fiancée. Immediately, Violet slapped her face again.

No! Prince Edward is the prince of the people! Nobody deserves to monopolize him! How dare she desecrate the Great Prince this way? To think this way... how can she be worthy of the honorable position of the president of Prince Edward's fanclub? As the president, she needs to set an example to all followers of the crown prince!

Violet stared up at the portrait of the benevolent prince. "Thank you for gracing us with your continuing existence," she earnestly whispered from her heart.

Holding her reddened cheeks, Violet decided to go to the kitchen to find some ice to put on it. She slipped out of her bedroom, and trotted down the stairs to get to the kitchen. As she made her way to her destination, she encountered a well-dressed man in the halls. "Father!" she exclaimed.

She immediately curtsied.

Her father nodded in acknowledgement. "Violet." His eyes slid over to her ruddy cheeks. "Your cheeks?"

Violet's burned redder with embarrassment. "I held rude thoughts towards His Highness, the crown prince," she confessed.

The man nodded, immediately understanding what had transpired.

"I will be announcing at dinner, but I'll tell you now, since you're here. It concerns your birthday present."

The man gestured Violet closer. Violet flounced over and batted her eyes. "Thank you, father! Please tell me," she whined, acting cute. "What is my present?"

"I know how much you like the crown prince so I entered into some negotiations with the king."

Violet froze. Wait, this seemed familiar.

"Negotiations were successful."

No, it can't be.

"You are now engaged to the crown prince."
