Chapter 2 - Chapter Two

Robbin Drakon's POV

Finally! After all these years it feels like I can breathe again. The northern wind was strong as it pushed past my face, bringing my tears along with them. The air is thickened with the smell of the forest below.

Phoebion glides through the sky with ease as the Southern star guides us home. Oh, how I can't wait to be where my family is. Where Vision, my beloved dragon awaits to be free of his prison.

Suddenly, raindrops splash on my face. I look up to see the sky growing in size. Wait a minute, the sky isn't being pushed away, I'm falling! I turn to tell Phoebion to go up, but she isn't there anymore.

"Phoebion!" I call for her but it's useless. The ground is closing in.

"AHHHHHHHHHH!"

I jolt awake, my breath hitching as I gasped for air. My vision blurred for the most part, but I was oriented. It was a dream. "Oh, thank the gods". I lie back down only to push myself up again. I'm in so much pain. "Fuck," I mumble while grabbing my shoulder. I never felt this pain during my imprisonment. The island allowed me to keep my healing ability. But now that I'm free, everything hurts. I don't bother checking my wounds. They're not what matters at the moment.

I survey my surroundings to see I'm in a cell. I close my eyes and try to remember what happened. All I remember is crashing on some trees and being surrounded by werewolves. Shit! They must've taken me as a prisoner for trespassing. But why didn't they kill me?

My eyes grow huge as I remember something important-or shall I say, someone. Phoebion. My hands clasped over my mouth at the realization. I don't remember finding her after I landed. Dammit, I have to get out of here. Looking around the room, I notice I'm the only one in this dungeon. Perfect, that make my escape eas-

My thoughts and movements are cut off by a tearing feeling in my stomach. I tried to get on my feet, but the pain is too much for me to bear. My eyes close and I see Phoebion. I need to find her. Pushing the pain aside, I manage to stand up, with a little support from the wall. Now how do I get out of here? From what I can see, there is a small window on the opposite side of my cage, but I need to get out of here to reach it. There's a door on the right of me with light shining through the cracks of it. That's a no-go. There might be guards on the other side. The window is then.

There's nothing I can use to unlock the cage, so I'll have to play the game of waiting. I sit back down with a sigh and cross my legs. No, that won't do. I need to make them come to me so I can escape. I lean against the wall with my lower body slouched and keep my hand over my wound. They're going the question me, but they can't do that if I'm dead.

Fortunately, I don't have to wait too long for someone to enter the dungeon. I flutter my eyes slightly open to get a view. It's a guard! Only one. That makes this easier. He walks towards my cell, banging on the bars for my attention.

"Get up." He croaks out. I groan in pain and with all my might, I hunch over coughing. Me being in actual pain helps a lot. "Dammit". He mumbles. The jingling of his keys makes me smile inwardly. The guard opens the cell and makes his way toward me. " What the hell is wrong with y-" His sentence is cut off with I swing my arm up between his legs.

"Ugh, you fucking little-" I cut him off again with a kick to his stomach. He's lying on the ground and starts to call for backup. Fuck. Time to shut him up for good. I stomp on his face until he stops speaking. It'll have to do. I'm too short on time and energy to kill him. I limp out of the cage and towards the window. It's just out of my reach. I frantically glanced around the room to shatter the window with.

I'm struck with luck when I find a crowbar at the end of the room. Quickly grabbing it, I run back to the window. To make this work, I need to jump and swing at the same time. Okay, here goes nothing. As I bring the bar above my head, two more guards burst through the door. Fuck. I don't even hesitate to attack them. They were too focused on their fellow guard unconscious on the ground to see me running towards them.

The sound of bones breaking echoes throughout the dungeon. The guard fell to the ground, blood leaking from his scalp. I suddenly jump over his body and turn my body around, swinging the bar with me, knocking the second guard in the head as well. This is taking too much time. I stand at the outside of my cage to get a running start towards the window. With an exhale of breath, I charge toward the wall, climbing it with two steps and smash the glass.

I feel the gravity pull me back to the ground but quickly grab the edge of the windowsill. With the adrenaline starting to fade, I hoist myself up and through. Finally! My success is short-lived as I hear voices below me.

"Hey, you!" Someone shouts. More guards pile into the dungeon.

I get up and find myself covered in blood. My injuring won't sustain any more than this.

Luckily the window led outside. But it seems I'm not alone. Men approach me from my right and ahead of me, all shouting for me to halt.

Time to go.

I run. I don't care which direction, just far away from the men trying to capture me again. My path takes me left as I run along with the building, hoping to find a horse to escape on. As I turn to go around the corner, it's not men that run after me. It's werewolves. A LOT of them. I have two choices. Stay and die, or go back inside. At that moment, I run to the building, colliding into a tall window. Damn these windows today. Luckily, it shatters and I bounce off the ground. My second wind has come and I'm ready to go.

I don't know where I'm heading as I turn corners of this building. I find myself at the end of a very long corridor with doors on the opposite side, but I don't stop. The barking and shouting are closing in the gap between us. I charge toward the door with all the speed I had left.

Bursting through the doors, I crash on the floor from the force I used. I try to get up but my second wind is leaving my body. I'm out of energy, and time as well. The guards and werewolves chasing behind me have finally caught up. They circle me and I have no more tricks up my sleeve.

Well, maybe this last one. I push myself off the ground and dust myself off. No, I'm not going to die a coward. I get in my fighting stance to show them what's about to go down. I hear the wolves growl and the sound of swords being unsheathed. From behind me, I hear someone approaching. My arm swings back and the fight begins. There wasn't much I could do. I was too injured to take them all. But I didn't care. I knew how this was going to end. I knew they were going to kill me, but I just didn't care. I was going to let them kill me back at the lake, but seeing that all they did was lock me in a cage, I wish they did.

I refuse to be locked up. Not again. Not after finally being free of that secluded island. No. I'm going to fight and die. This will always be better than being alive and imprisoned. I was kicked, punched, beaten, bitten, and thrown around. Blood began to pool out of me. As I took what I thought was my last breath, a roar rang in my ears, making me squint my eyes and tilt away from it. I dropped my head to the side and open my least bruised eye to see a tall figure approach me.

The room fell silent and all that was heard were loud ascending footsteps. They stopped in front of me and I closed my eyes with a sigh, waiting for him to finish me off. "What is the meaning of this?" His voice rumbled across the room. He was so loud it brought my eyes to open. I look up at him and tried to prop myself on my elbows but fail ultimately.

I hear him kneel next to me. The heat radiating off of his body was enough to somehow make me shiver. What I assume is his hand-due to my lack of vision-brushes bloody strands of hair away from my face to get a better view of the person responsible for all of this. Suddenly the hand grazed my cheek and I heard a low growl.

No part of my body could move. Life drained from me along with my blood. I was sure they'd beaten me to death because my eyes closed and I felt as if they wouldn't open again.
