Chapter 30 - Forest Siege

"Damon, you ok?" Sebastian asked in a concerned tone.

I realized I was zoning out with my hand on my forehead.

"Yeah I'm fine." I replied.

It was almost immediate, as if something took over me and used me to kill. Was it the virus, or something else? I put my thoughts to the side and focus on the matter at hand. Gunfire sounded stronger than before with the shouts and wails getting louder and louder. Sebastian looks at a wall with newspapers plastered in a square shape on the wall. Sebastian rips out the paper and takes a peek outside with the dark sky becoming visible again, from the trees, red spewed out like tiny sticks of fire charging into the building.

"I'm giving this to Lennox, he might know something." Sebastian places the bullet in his pocket.

"This is Blaze 4 we have the exit ready for evacuation sir." the person on the radio said.

"Look what we have here again." A voice spoke, it came from the door

Before i could look Sebastian fell to the ground with blood spewing from his chest, looking to the front, i get a glimpse of what shot Sebastian, i felt something slam into my chest, knocking me down, i looked up even with the pain i felt. In front of me, a soldier with different armor than the rest, with 2 other soldiers behind him. The armor had camo similar to the color of the forest with the chest portion shaded in a darker tint of green, a gas mask covered his face and in his arms an assault rifle similar to mine, but some parts of it are different, the barrel smoking.

"Burnwick says hello again." The soldier spoke, muffled by the mask. The soldier accompanied by two others behind him with similar color patterns.

"He also told me you were responsible for that ship, i lost good people in there," The man pointed his rifle at me. "Eye for an eye." A sound of a whistle passed my ear, immediately after the whistle, the soldier fell to the ground, his head filled with blood with a chunk missing, that image will stay in my head for a long time.

"Hell yeah, got that sucker in the brains!" Stephen exclaimed.

Slowly my body regained control again, now i can move my arms and parts of my body, what did he shoot me with? I got up with my legs almost making me stumble. Sebastian tried standing up groaning as he did. Looking back, other 2 were gone along with a blood trail left. Wonder where they went and what that guy in the radio meant with "Evacuation".

"Can you walk?" I asked slurring my words in the process.

"Barely, but ignore that, kill them all." Sebastian replied using his rifle to get up.

Following his order i limped my way out of the room still feeling weak but strong enough to move myself.

"Were moving closer to them get out of there." The voice spoke.

Looking down, the soldiers stopped shooting, are they out of rounds? No matter. I pointed at one of them ready to put a bullet into them. In swift succession i fired at them, like targets at the range.

My vision became consumed by the yellow and red flash of something, my ears ringed despite the protection to them, i feel weightless as if i was lifted from the ground. I felt my back slam onto the hard metal ground, my body slowly became numb again, this time my vision, hearing, and other senses disappeared, until. Nothing.

"Damon? Damon get up!" A voice echoed. I can only see darkness, pitch black with no sight of light anywhere.

"Damon get up damnit!" The voice echoed again but louder.

In the distance a small sight of light shone in the dark, as i stared at it the light grew bigger and bigger almost rapidly. I shut my eyes tightly, attempting to block more of the light with my arms but they still stay paralyzed.

My hearing became normal again, in front of me was rubble, with a gleaming bright sun. I opened my eyes but i was somewhere different, i was no longer in the warehouse nor forest, Around me was rubble and smoke choking the air, i couldn't move i can only stare. Suddenly i felt as if I was moving forward, i tried to move to stop but was unable to.

"Hey Josh, have you seen Anna yet?" My vision suddenly shift to the left still without me controlling, unable to move them myself. I was staring at another soldier, on his shoulder was the logo of the academy, the soldier had the same armor as all of us, with goggles only covering his face and some extra add-ons. The soldiers continued moving, wait am i seeing through these people? My vision became hazy now.

"Damon get up damnit!" That voice.

I sprung up, my eyes felt stiff or strained. I placed my hand on Sebastian, trying to tell them what the hell just happened.

"No time for sleep move it!" Sebastian grabbed my arm slinging me up. I ran with Sebastian, around me the building that once stood turned to nothing but a cage of fire and falling metal, screaming from below with continuous shooting drowned anything else out. Around me, was just chaos, the soldiers that once stood here are now dead or running away.

We got back to the way we went, Sebastian opened the door in a rush and continued running, far from the crumbling building.

My legs felt tired like jelly, not knowing how long we ran or how tired we got from running. Sebastian slid to the ground, kneeling on the dirt as he slid. I gradually slowed down, despite with the training and virus i still felt tired. I breathed heavily ignoring everything else.

Behind me Sebastian kneeled on the floor with his gun by his side, his chest still had a hole through it, somehow a bullet managed to pierce his armor. Sebastian didn't stop panting clenching his chest with his right arm.

"Ignore me Damon, didn't you see them run through here?" Sebastian asked, pausing to grunt from the pain. His eyes fixated on me .

"Hey where are you two? We got everyone back here except for both of you." Alina asked from the comms.

"Don't know, we ran in the forest behind that building." I replied.

"Should we come back or pursue them Sebastian?" I asked, pushing myself up with my rifle.

"Well we got this far, screw it," Sebastian gets up using his rifle and starts walking to where the terrorists supposedly went. "Just a wound Damon, all we have to do is see where they went that's all." Sebastian falls to the ground rifle still in hand, he struggles to hoist himself up using his own weapon to push himself up.

"Sebastian, we need to get you too Alina. Whatever that guy shot you with is possibly killing you as we speak." I ordered Sebastian, As i finished he spat on the floor, a mix of spit and blood covered a spot on the dirt.

"I waited to hunt these people down, i lost close people to them. I'm not leaving them on a low note and letting these killers run." Sebastian stood his ground, anger in his voice with his grip on his weapon tightened. Sebastian slowly and painfully rose to his feet, his face in a deep rage.

"I think i see you two." Mary spoke through the comms, after speaking, a rustle behind us grabbed our attention, Sebastian's as well.

"Oh finally we found the both of you, i'm alerting the rest. You had us worried." Mary emerged from the bushes. Mary walks closer to us, she turns her head to Sebastian with a worried look on her face.

"Oh shit, they got you good. We need to get you to Alina." Mary explained.

"Sorry Sebastian, you're out ruled by two, we need to get you back, they can wait." I added, Sebastian's face slowly changed from a scowl to a saddened look.

"Fine, fuck this hurts." Sebastian slowly limps back going past me and Mary.

A distant shout gets our attention, it continues with malice in it's voice.

"Damon, you can fight on your own right?" Mary asked behind me, supporting Sebastian walking, "How about you take a peek on what that is. Don't worry we can find you once you're done." Mary continued.

"Mary here, found them. Damon, Marcel has eyes on you, you can see where to go in your visor once your done. Just take a glance, here." Mary throws a tube like stick at me, i manage to grab it in my hand despite the rain. Looking at it the tube has lenses on one end similar to one on a phone or camera and a button on the other. Looks like a camera flashlight mix.

"Press the button with the lenses aiming at whatever your taking a pic of. Sorry the others can't help you, either preoccupied or low on ammo, we need more pockets." Mary explains as she slowly fades into the green.

Following the voices and the order i walk through the foliage, moving to wherever that voice is coming from.
