Rather than taking the Count's words as a mannerly insult, Evlan considered them as a passing comment. So far, the Crown Prince and the knights were in the know of one thing -- the Percival brothers were once slaves. Because of that, Evlan might've sounded strange with his civil parlance.
Looking at how young the siblings were, coupled with the fact that they had become accustomed to the trade, one would wonder just how long they had been slaves.
