Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The day went smoothly after discovering I was left handed.

My window showed that the sky was already getting darker. I had spent the whole day trying to write and did not notice how time passed.

I began to feel hungry just as my mother knocked on the door and announced dinner was ready.

'Perfect timing.'

I walked to the door to go and get dinner, but I remembered something.

'Right, after transmigrating here, I have not once stepped outside of my room.'

Luckily, before I opened my door, my mother entered and smiled at me.

''Come on, I will come with you.''

She and I held hands and stepped outside.

Outside, there was a long, fancy hallway. There were multiple doors on the side and I guessed they must've been for my family.

Portraits of people with different ages were also hung on the walls.

'Are these old family members?'

Some of the portraits looked quite like my father. They looked way older though.

We reached the end of the hallway into some long white stairs.

I gasped at the sight and thought these were the most beautiful stairs I had ever seen.

They had a fancy handrail and when you looked at the top, they looked never ending.

''Hold my hand tightly.''

I tightened my grip as I imagined someone falling down the stairs.

'Wait, didn't my body fall down the stairs?'

It must've hurt quite a lot.

As we were walking down, I could start seeing the living room.

It also looked super fancy and expensive with huge couches, rugs, etc.

I looked up at the ceiling, and there was a chandelier I hoped to see.

'This place might as well be a palace.'

We reached the bottom and turned left to another huge room.

It turned out, we had arrived at the dining room already.

Both my father and brother were already sitting in their seats. It seemed they were waiting for us to arrive.

The table was somewhat high, me being 5 years old, I couldn't really see the top.

My mother guided me to a seat and placed me on top of a chair next to my brother.

I began to make myself comfortable on the seat so I would not spill anything.

''Now that everybody is here, let's eat our dinner.'' My father announced and picked up his fork, ready to chomp down his food.

Everyone else also began to eat their food.

It was a quiet dinner, but with a harmonious atmosphere in the room.

The food was really good and I felt comfortably full.

My father called the maids to clear our table and began speaking.

''As I told you, tomorrow two tutors will come and begin teaching you to be ready for school.'' My brother and I nodded.

''For you, Felicia, you need to study for the entrance exam for Rendell.''

''Yes, father.'' I saw my brother get a confused face at my polite answer.

''As for you, your tutor will make sure to keep teaching you to get the best grades, Konrad.'' He said with a serious tone.

'Konrad? I finally learned my brother's name!'

''Yes, father. I'll study hard to be a top.''

''With that said, make sure to be polite and respectful tomorrow to your tutors. You can go to your bedrooms goodnight.''

''Goodnight, father.'' Both my brother and I said at the same time.

My father chuckled and dismissed himself.

''I know both of my children will do well. Please rest and be ready for tomorrow, goodnight.'' My mother got up from the table and left my brother and I alone.

'Seriously, what is up with me being alone with him all the time?'

I decided to break off the awkwardness between us and spoke first.

''Well, I hope we have a great time, brother. Goodnight and,'' I paused. ''Rest well.''

I began walking towards my room and heard a faint ''Goodnight.''

---------

''Hello, my name is Felicia Demm, it's a pleasure to be tutored by you. I look forward to learn in your care.'' I tried to sound as formal and respectful as I could.

''Yes, I also look forward to being with you, Felicia.''

Right now, I was talking with my assigned tutor. So far, she seemed really nice and polite. I hoped to get along with her.

''I was informed by your father that you are about to enter Rendell, is that right?''

''Yes, I am going to be taking the elementary entrance exam in a few weeks.''

''All right, I'll make sure you're able to pass the entrance exam. You don't have to worry.''

She began taking out some flashcards, pencils and other materials.

'I wonder how hard the entrance exam will be. It's only for 5/6 year olds.'

''The entrance exam will test you on many subjects. I will be preparing you for them the following weeks.''

I nodded at her explaining.

'I should pretend to get stuck on some subjects to not seem suspicious.'

It would honestly seem suspicious if a 5 year would know too much. Felicia was known for throwing a lot of tantrums and not caring a single bit.

''What will you be teaching me today?'' I asked.

''Today, we will only learn the basics on numbers.''

'Seriously?'

I had a feeling that all of this tutoring would make me go insane.

'Should I just make up random excuses to how I know so much?'

If I named all of the numbers, I could just say I memorized them from a control remote, elevator, etc.

'I should do that.'

''Felicia?'' She waved a hand in my face as if I was blind.

''Oh. I'm sorry, miss. Please, let's begin.'' I realized I was being quite rude by spacing out in the middle of her tutoring.

''All right, please make sure to pay attention from now on. You may not know how important it is for a child of the Demm family to get into Rendell.''

''I understand. I shall stop messing around and will continue to pay attention.''

I, in fact understood how important it was for an influential child to get into Rendell.

The heirs of families always needed to study extremely hard to get into the top positions in their grades and classes. A child's position in school was very important for the pride of the family.

''All right, let's begin our first lesson.''

And so the days of torture began.
