Chereads / Foreign Exchange Student / Chapter 2 - Jacklyn

Chapter 2 - Jacklyn

RING! RING! RING! My doorbell woke me from my sleep.

"I don't wanna get up!" I grumbled.

"Well, you have to," I heard Hailey say.

I jumped up out of my bed. "Where are you?"

"Look at your nightstand," she sighed. "I'm on the screen for your doorbell. You know the fancy doorbell I got you?"

"Oh, yeah," I put my hand on my chest. "I forgot. I do that sometimes."

"I know," she said. "I'm coming in."

The screen went off. I went to my closet to pick out my outfit. I wasn't going to shower because I did the night before. It was too early to be doing all that anyway. I grabbed a blouse and a black mini skirt and heels.

"So, I thought you didn't care about guiding these guys around," Hailey leaned against the doorframe.

"I want to make a good impression," I looked at her. "Like I know how to hold myself."

"You want to make a really good impression," she mumbled. I threw my shoe at her.

"I heard that," she threw the shoe back at me.

"You know it's true."

We walked downstairs with our bags and my keys in hand. We went to the kitchen to see my dad still at home.

"You're up early," He looked at me. "Hi, Hailey."

"Hi, Mr. Jae," she smiled.

"I don't get a 'hi'?" I scoffed and grabbed a donut.

"Hi, my ever so precious daughter," he sarcastically said.

"Hi, ever so awesome father," I said back and smiled.

"Get to school," he chuckled. "I heard you have to show the new kids around today."

"Don't remind me!" I said as I was walking out the door.

Hailey and I got in my car and she connected her phone to my Bluetooth.

"Do you mind?" She asked.

"Why do you even ask me anymore?" I laughed.

She, of course, put on her favorite genre - Korean pop. The beat of the song was nice, and I could understand the English in it.

"You know who this is?"

"Let me guess...that new group you're really into now?" I said.

"YAY!" She started to jump up and down. I just rolled my eyes.

We pulled into the school parking lot, and the principal and two other nice cars were the only ones here. It was 6:55 a.m. Hailey and I got out, and I locked my doors. I took a deep breath and smiled.

"I got this."

We walked up the steps to the school and tried to open the doors, but they were locked. I knocked on the door, and Mr. Hedge came to it. He unlocked it and held it open for us.

"Good morning, girls!"

"Good morning, Mr. Hedge!" Both of us smiled.

"Miss Jae, the students are in my office," he sighed. "I didn't expect you to bring Miss Sale with you, but she can meet the boys. You and she can be their first friends."

"Can she help me show them around?" I hopefully asked.

"Um, no," he said. "We've been through this."

"Yes, sir," I nodded my head.

We walked back to his office. I took a deep breath because I don't do well with new people. Especially 8 new people. He opened the door and I gasped. Hailey did, too.

"My God," I whispered to myself.

Hailey almost lost her balance, but I caught her.

"Miss Jae, Miss Sale, please welcome these fine gentlemen to our school!" The principal beamed.

"Told you so!" Hailey whispered to me excitedly.

"Boys," they looked at him, "this is Miss Jae." He pointed at me. "She will help you around the school. And this is Miss Sale. She will not be technically helping, but something tells me she will end up doing so. Her and Miss Jae are attached at the waist."

"Hi," I smiled. The guy that I bumped into yesterday waved at me. "Miss Jae, huh?"

"Oh, please," I stepped forward a little. "Please call me Jacklyn." I unintentionally bowed. The other guys started to smile at look at me and Hailey. "And this is Hailey. She's my best friend." She bowed, too. Though, I think she did it on purpose.

"Nice to meet you," she smiled.

"Okay, girls, this is Kim Hyun Ki, or Henry Kim."

"This is Song Min-jun, or Matthew Song."

"This is Park Seojun, or Samuel Park."

"This is Jung Won-Shik, or Wilson Jung."

"This is Jeong Young-Jae, or Yale Jeong."

"This is Choi Ji-hun, or Jacob Choi."

"This is Kang Young-Min, or York Kang."

"And last but certainly not least, Choi Sang-Wook, or Sam Choi."

"Why the super foreign names to completely different names?" I asked. "Isn't it a bit stereotypical that they have 'American' names?"

"Their papers from America state that they have American names," the principal said looking at some documents. "And I lied to you, Miss Jae. They can speak and understand English, some better than others, but you will be able to get your point across."

Hailey had her mouth open a little, so I nudged her. She composed herself and got my attention. "Wow, it's almost time for people to start coming in."

"So, boys, please follow Jacklyn," Mr. Hedge gave me their schedules. "The schedules should be similar, if not the same as yours."

"It's fine," I smiled. "Hailey and I have the same schedule, so it will be okay. I don't mind."

"Good," he shook my hand. "Thank you, Jacklyn. Now, all of you better get going."

We all walk out of the office and automatically get stares.

"Hailey, do you mind going to get breakfast?" I asked.

"Sure," she said.

She left and I turned around to look at the boys. "Well, let's go."

We stopped at our first period. It was choir. We walk in the classroom and Mrs. Brandi looks at us.

"Who is this, Jackie?" she tilts her head.

"These are the new foreign exchange students," I slowly said. I couldn't believe I was saying it. "They have transferred here for a bit. They have my exact schedule."

"Oh my gosh!" She said. "They will be a great addition to the choir!"

We go by the other 7 classes. By the time we are finished, it is 5 minutes until choir.

"You sing?" Henry asked me.

"Yep," I said popping the 'p'. "I can just about do anything."

"Wow," he said.

"Have you ever thought of being famous?" Matthew looked at me.

"I don't think she wants to be," Yale told Matthew. "No offense."

"None took," I smiled.

"Can Hailey sing?" Wilson asked.

"If you're asking if she's in the choir, yes, she is," I grinned. I knew he was Hailey's favorite. "She doesn't sing." He looked a bit down. "But, she does play the piano for us!"

York grabbed my shoulder. "How do you feel about guiding us around?"

"Does it make you uncomfortable?" Jacob asked.

"Boys," I looked at them. "It's okay. Y'all seem cool, so I'm cool with it. Just not so many questions at once. I'm only one person."

"Good," Sam chimed in. "I wouldn't want anyone else."
